This hike is a favorite of ours, as the trailhead is just across the street from us. Thanks so much for highlighting it and for your other videos highlighting Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We're glad there are others that enjoy it here just as much as we do!

Did this hike today! really beautiful i loved the meadows at the top. We also got burned a little bit by the 5pm last gondola thing. Wanted to walk down halfway and take the gondola the last part down but didnt make it to the halfway station in time. Should have just flipped it, gondola to middle station walk the rest. Anyway didnt spoil the day or anything, great hike on a perfect day. No snakes even!
@NearFromHome2 жыл бұрын
Oh no!!! I was worried the whole way down that would happen to us. The absence is snakes more than makes up for the missed gondola imho. 😉

Perfect timing I'm traveling to Germany on my two week vacation from my home in Canada in less than 2 weeks (very excited) and staying my first week in Garmisch. The Wank hike looks totally doable. I've also made note a lot of other suggestions from your various videos I've been watching over the last few months. Thanks for doing such a great job, not just showing the areas but also exactly how to get to them.

Thanks to your channel this is the third walk/hike we did after seeying your videos (also Eibsee and Ehrenberg). It was one of the best walks we did. We started early so luckily we could get Schnitzels, beer and cake. Next up Seceda, so i will have to watch your video on that a few times for some inspiration. Keep up the great work. I am hoping you guys will also explore more in Austria and Swiss! I can recommend the 5 seen wanderung in Zermatt, if you are in Swiss.

I never made it to the Wank Haus. It was foggy. But that name is still funny, even after years in Germany. Nice memories and I must go back on a sunny day! See if I complete the Wank experience.

Thanks for the video and information. One question: how much of a stomach for heights does one need for this hike? Are there many and/or long stretches with narrow paths and steep slopes? Thanks in advance :)
@NearFromHome6 ай бұрын
If I remember correctly, (this was a while ago) the switchback section before the hut does have steep drop offs, but it is very forested, so it doesn't feel precarious. I think the path is also very safe. It's wide and well maintained, so there's no risk of falling.

@@NearFromHome thanks for taking the time to reply! Ok. We'll take our chances. Suffering from slight vertigo but still loving heights and the views is an inconvenient combination 😊

Hi thank you for your videos. I am watching all your videos as I and my friends are planning to hike in Garmisch area in april. This one looks super interesting. Could you suggest some more information- If you have any map for your hiking? How you went from Garmisch to this place - you mentioned the bus but where did you get down.? And do you follow any hiking app ?
@NearFromHome Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I often use AllTrails as my hiking app when I’m Garmisch. You can see Wank mountain and it’s cable cars from downtown Garmisch though. It’s looming in plain sight. So you should be able to get to the start relatively easily with google maps and then AllTrails will take over. The bus is unnecessary, we ended up not even bothering and just walking all the way back after the hike.

We got to the ZUgspitz and found out it was closed, one of the four days in the year it's shutdown for maintenance. The tourism office suggested Mt. Wank which was a lovely alternative. We took the cable car in both directions.

Is it really that important, always to look for THE Best, THE Highest etc. spot? Maybe there are good, but not perfect alternatives nearby? Rememered me, when tourists visits in foreign countries every church and castle.......an at home, the local churches and castles, with even comparabel history..........OK.....they are there......but to visit.......no......

We have to play the KZbin analytics games. A video titled "a pretty good mountain that you can hike that also is nice if you don't hike a lot" wouldn't do well.
