I doubt he reads all these cause sometimes these comment sections get vicious, but for some songs in general especially with AJR the lyrics the lyrics aren’t chronological, they just suggest general themes. (I’ll use bummerland as an example) the theme is mostly clear; he doesn’t matter how bad things are/will get because he thinks they can only get better. (you can easily find this in the chorus but it’s built in the verses). Of course other songs like “Dear Winter” are chronological so not every song follows this formula but many do. This is the case in many, many non-AJR songs as well (including some of my own music) so with a wider lends you can now see clearer on why many/most people may enjoy that Now for the smaller things, you didn’t like the change from vocals to trumpet to violin, that’s probably because I wasn’t meant for you. Brains with OCD/ADHD really enjoy that sound meshing, in other songs they layer/mesh far more and personally I really enjoy that. Some things aren’t that complicated. (It’s sad but, I’ve been alone for too long, so I keep getting haircuts” tells you why he is getting 7 haircuts a month, when he is getting his hair cut at least he isn’t alone. Same thing happens later on with so next year, when I buy that first beer, I’ll be a goddamn hero!” After being broke for so long once you are better (which happens “next year” hopefully) it’ll be such an upgrade from where you were it’ll feel like you are a hero. Bummerland isn’t a hard song to understand. I probably can dissect music better then the average Joe, but I can’t begin to start in the lyrics of a song like “bang”. While it barely squeezes out a top 30 spot in my favorite AJR songs, it isn’t hard to understand and I would call it mellow compared to many other of their songs. You may love a song like “Dear Winter by them but dislike a “No Grass Today” because if your specific taste which is different than mine, that doesn’t make any of their music bad. You want me to write an objectively terrible song I have written a few taht never saw the light of day for some of your mentioned reasons (bad flow, doesn’t make sense, no set of instruments seems to work with it) but by no means is Bummerland bad

For some reason I see a mirror to this. People hate because “it goes so much deeper than that”, but other people like it because of that. For me at least AJR helped with depression and their music helped me to become positive and be social. That’s how deep there songs are for me, again this is just an opinion of mine. I’m huge fan of their work and when you are a huge fan it’s hard to understand the “haters”. I literally looked up why is AJR bad and they start criticizing it for being bland. In my opinion their are no such things as bland music, because most songs that are on your playlists are bland to other people that listen to it. Bland in music is what also creates creativity because once they start doing it they morph it into something that isn’t bland. Everyone picks their (AJR’s) top hits then criticizes it for being the same but they don’t pick the other songs because it is clear that those songs are for people who are depressed and want to be happy. And I think AJR delivers on that front. Again. This is just an opinion.

Don't argue if you won't listen to the opposition. When you read the explanation of how this song looks at the pros of reaching the all time low and you said "whatever", you proved that you disregarded the sentiment and, thus, the point of the song from the first, so naturally you don't understand a word of it. You read the explanation in your video. That's the basic idea, only empathetic or relatable people will grasp it better than that (which, by the way, they do and have no complaints). Acknowledge that you don't understand it and don't like it and move on. It's clear from the emotion in your reactions that you don't give a crap about understanding or helping depressed people and sensible explanations are wasted on you. Making subtle references to common things is a normal thing to do and usually fine for people who aren't out to get artists from the first note. On top of that, every song by AJR is different. If however I'm wrong about you and you read this far: Talk to any AJR fan who's willing to have a sensible conversation with you after this video insulting them to their faces, drop your bias a little, and maybe you'll learn something about interesting people and get better friends Also, the fading from one instrument to another is one of their signatures and I think it was done mostly to keep up with that. seeing you rate this is like an opera listener giving rock music a bad review, no one cares how bad they rate it because they don't know a thing about rock music. There are professional musicians who see AJR as genius composers and then there's you.

It's on all the time. It's a sad statement about America's youth when this musical simpleton, AJR, is so popular. Imo this song was one of their most confusing one. But their bang song is about growing up and it is pretty clear. Way less sad, second most popular I think, is about just having lower expectations to not be as sad. 100 bad days, like they said, 100 bad days makes 100 good stories. Or burn the house down was great. But they have variety. But also, you kinda don't get their style, it is a lot of instruments and layers. Christmas in June is another song that makes a lot of sense. I got off this vid but then thought, you want the same 4 chord song with the same structure and copy pasted song with no depth or meaning with no uniqueness like lyrics or style and want the same in your face meaning?
