This is ONE THICK omnibus! I know that you mentioned the page count but I can just imagine the weight of this one. I sold my OHC when I heard it here first that this omnibus would come out, collecting the OHC and companion into one. I always found it funny how they pronounced Namor in the clip I saw introducing the character. Where as a Latino with a thick accent when I speak English, even I always managed to pronounce it 'Nayymor' lol.

Ugh, I'm really getting tired of Marvel being lazy about ordering their event omnis. I would not have bought the omnibus if I had known in advance it was just the two previous books stacked on top of each other... I had thought they were learning something when they started putting out the Hickman era trade paperbacks with a decent reading order.

@@rubee666 From what he said in the video, it's basically all the Avengers vs. X-Men event issues in a row, then all the issues of each tie-in series in a row one at a time. This is exactly like the two OHCs were (one had the main event, one had the crossovers) so it's effectively like putting the two on top of each other with with a new cover wrapped around, yes. And to be clear, there is absolutely an order to reading the event, as many of the issues happen explicitly between major changes in the event issues, and one of the series in particular, AvX, is composed of the full length battles that are often shown as just 1-2 panels in the event issues. They did this with the original Spider-Verse hardcover and a few other events as well, and it's really irritating given they even have their own reading orders up on Marvel Unlimited for several of them. This one is just particularly egregious because it's effectively attempt #2 and they still chose the bad reading experience.

Thank you for the overview and direct comparison to the OHCs. I have the OHCs and was considering an upgrade - I would have done so if there has been any integration in the mapping, but since it’s literally the two OHCs stuck together with thinner paper, I think I’ll stick. Thanks again!

This overview is the reason I got this Omni...and House of M....and every other Omni I now have. Omar started me on this road. I personally have to thank him for that, cos they've been a hell of a fun read, between the Marvel Omni's, Star Wars Omni's, all the DC ones I've got over the last few years, all because of Omar's overviews. still this book look considerably small in reality in compare to DC's final crisis and Superman Death and return omnibus..Marvel omni uses very thin glossy paper. Black Cat omnibus(having 700 pages ) looks almost only as thick as Crisis on Infinite Earths Deluxe edition

IF I am not mistaken at 1680 pages, this is the biggest omnibus from Marvel or DC. It is now the record g. holder for pages. Other than that, I prefer the DC omnibus for crossovers that puts the issue in reading order or reale order. So you could have had all the Avenegrs vs X-men issue througth 2 and then put AVX 1 and so fourth. This does not cut the story that much and you read and understand everything Marvel never does that and that is why we will never see an omnibus of civil war because it would be 2 volumes with the main 7 issues plus maeby prequels comics leading up to the event and some companion in volume on for about 1200 pages and a second volume of only companions of 1200 pages. Who would be interested in buying 2 volumes and waiting months for the second volume. Or they could do a big on time box set of both volumes together but the prive would probably to high... The civil war bost set contained the following books (i got this box set even if not OHC): SLIPCASE SET INCLUDES: CIVIL WAR PROLOGUE PREMIERE HC 304 PGS. CIVIL WAR PREMIERE HC 256 PGS. CIVIL WAR: AVENGERS PREMIERE HC 392 PGS. CIVIL WAR: FANTASTIC FOUR PREMIERE HC 360 PGS. CIVIL WAR: FRONT LINE PREMIERE HC 360 PGS. CIVIL WAR: MARVEL UNIVERSE PREMIERE HC 408 PGS. CIVIL WAR: SPIDER-MAN PREMIERE HC 472 PGS. CIVIL WAR: THE UNDERSIDE PREMIERE HC 352 PGS. CIVIL WAR: X-MEN PREMIERE HC 408 PGS. CIVIL WAR AFTERMATH PREMIERE HC 344 PGS. CIVIL WAR FILES PREMIERE HC 464 PGS. That is a total of 4120 pages. If you take out the prolongue book and the aftermath and the files, you get 3008 pages. That would mean 2-3 big books with one or two of them being companion. If they put everything in reading order, maybe people would like to buy them all. This is why it will never happen with Civil War Omnibus.

in terms of pages it might be the biggest but it's not the thickest. blackest night (1664p) for example is about 3/4 of an inch thicker, paper quality must be the diff. i think there are at least a few DC omnis that are thicker around a similar page count.

I ordered the DM Wolverine vs. Cap cover from In stock trades yesterday. I just wish the spin was black to match all my other omnibus titles. This one will stick out for better or worse. I don’t know if I’ll display it with the others. If I do it will have to be on a end. Not on the middle for sure.

Omar I disagree with you. I think they could've done this in reading order for this. Panini did it in their UK CE's reprints( they basically collected 3-4 issues every month for like a year) no problem. It reads fine.

It has been about 5 years since I read the event, What they did was they collected the Xmen portion in the Avengers CE and X men stuff in another while spreading out the other tie ins between them. My back issues are in a box behind some other boxes so I'll have to dig them out at some point. I apologise if I'm slightly off. But on top of my head Uncanny 11 was after AVX issue 2, 12 after 3, 13-14 after 5 15-17 after 7, 18 after 11, 19 after AVX 12 and then consequences was collected after the event. Versus 1 was after AVX 2 Vs2- after AVX 4 VS 3 after AVX 5 VS4 after AVX 6 VS5 after AVX 7 And VS6 after 11. The only thing they didn't collect at the time. was Secret Avengers and X babies. Their mapping probably wasn't perfect, certain scenes did clash a bit early whilst certain parts of the story beats in Uncanny and then brought up the same scenes in Avengers just a different point of view. But all events do that a little so I'm good for it. Just wish this omnibus could've at least gave it a shot at integrating them.

By the way Omar what happened to No Varr after AVX? He was my favourite character(apart from Scott) in the event but really found it heartbreaking he had to choose between the Avengers or his lineage, ended up betraying both sidrd in the process and ended up being stranded I've never seen Beast get so pissed off at someone in a comic before.😂

I read this in Hachette hardcovers a few years ago and I thought it was a real dogs dinner of a story, too many writers spoil the broth. The art was good but wasted on a rather vapid story, and I hated that it ruined Cyclops as a character (again).

This is a positive community, but its also an honest community. To throw my honest opinion in the ring this is the first comic that when characters acted out of character it really bugged me. I know this is a complainant Omar often has with books, but as an aspiring writer myself I can very easily see how dialogue/characters voices get altered depending upon the writer interpreting the character. With that being said, the way the characters in this book were written felt so strange and so much like they not even share some of the same core element with the original vision of the character. It's still cool I'll buy 150$ for some fantastic art though.

I'd agree with that, at the time it felt like the characters were being shoehorned in to fit the plot rather than the plot flowing naturally from the characters and situation and having re-read it 3 or so years ago that just reinforced my opinion. It really did feel like something written by committee.

That turned out to be bait by Jason Aaron (or there was enough negative feedback that editorial made him reverse course). Spoiler below... . . . . . . . . . . The big reveal issue about his birth had the phoenix force holder leaving Odin after he essentially tried to trick her into marrying him, and the force wanted to wander the galaxy as its nature calls for, but she was worried about leaving Earth without a long term protector. So before she left Earth she convinced Gaia to give Odin a chance and have a kid with him. Then later in the issue Thor was nearly killed right after his birth, so the phoenix force holder stepped in to save him. So, she's not the mother at all.

Marvel’s omni bleed through is getting worse and worse with each book. I think we are beyond blaming the printer at this point. I’d be willing to pay a bit more if they stopped cheapening out and went with a better printer, or used better paper. That’s why I’m not upgrading my og AvX ohcs. I think I’m done ordering marvel omnis until this changes (if it ever does. These are supposed to be premium collections, so it’s fair to hold them to higher standards.

So they don't invent a new term for an omnibus which collects omnibuses (omnibi?) like maxibus or Megabus or some such. And they don't bother to present the stories in any sort of chronological order, which ought to be possible instead of reading the main series, then the "Vs." bits, then the regular monthlies crossover issues in the same disjointed way as if reading the already published separate collections. It seems someone was too lazy to figure out a reading order for all the issues involved which at least would have justified putting them all in a single volume and created a new way to experience the event for people who bought the original issues/ collections when they came out and idly wondered how it all fit together. It's just another way to milk more out of this (now aging) story.

"If we put OMNIBUS on the spine instead it will sell". Try a reprint, this is not an upgrade in any way that i see. Yes i want my shelves to look uniform when possible Marvel but another case where a reprint instead of a renaming is better for consumers instead.
