Neato Botvac Robot Vacuum Brush Roll Bearing Disassembly/Cleaning

This demonstrates how to take the brush roll and the bearing apart for cleaning on a Neato Botvac D7. I found that the video on the Neato website didn't explain how to clean the bearing.
We noticed that over time our vacuum developed a loud squeak which I think was the bearing end squeaking and caking on dust. I wish I would have saved a before picture of what the bearing looked like.

Tysm! My bearing in mine was really sluggish, there was quite a lot of dust in there. Now i got it all cleaned out and it's less sluggish, thanks!

I cannot remove the black and orange part off at all. I’ve pulled and pulled. I’ve soaked it in soapy water and pulled. 😱

i cannot for the life of me detach the black part from the orange part like you do at 1:43.

My guess is it is really gunked up. It is not the easiest thing in the world to pull apart, as the edge of the orange thing is inserted into a rim of the black case.sorry I can't explain it better. You may need to do some very light prying with a very small (maybe eyeglasses size) flathead. Though I would be very careful as to not break it. Sorry I can't be of more help.

@@LessonsFound i ended up getting it. i had to use a super thin flathead screwdriver and sort of work it around the rim.

Thanks, that fixed it for me! It seems like the black spinning circle bit actually heat-deformed and is now a bit eccentric, so I guess it was running against some resistance for a while. I might need to sand it down so it spins freely, but at least I'm up and running again!

Thanks for the great overview. I've only had my D7 for 1.5 months and the bearing "runner" had already clogged with a chunk of fine dog hair. This saved me a lot of headache, thx again :-)

Thanks for posting this. I got a new brush without the orange "cap" on the bearing and wasn't sure I could remove the cap from the old one. This video helped - I was afraid of breaking something.

is it a sealed bearing, do you think there is any benefit to applying lubricant onto the bearing?

I'm not entirely sure, but given that it's a vacuum and operates in a dusty environmet, I would be concerned that any lubricant may collect dust faster and eventually need more cleaning. I don't have any science to back up that claim though.
