I bought the Neato D80 November 2017. The robot quit working in May 2018. I emailed back and forth with the company for several weeks. They replaced my robot the end of June 2018. Now the replacement quit working in November 2018. I bought a new battery for the robot in December 2018. The first of February 2019 the robot has quit working again. I have been emailing back and forth for several weeks with the company. I was asked to send them all of my original purchase information and some pictures of the floors and the lighting in the house and where the docking station was. I sent them all of the information that was requested and they stopped corresponding with me. I haven't heard from them in two weeks. I resent all of the info and asked them twice why they will not respond. Today I called them and now I am starting over with a new technician. We will see how it goes for me from there.

Good review! I'd just like to point out that the Roborock S50 also uses LDS sensor like the D7, but it has no problems with moving the docking station. If you move it then it spends 3-4 seconds looking around and then it auto-updates the new dock location on the saved map. Also, if you pick it up and move it to another room, and start it there, it will recognize where it is, and show up exactly at that point in the map. So I don't think the camera system is better for these kind of things. The LDS system is much more accurate overall. It's as you said, just software coding. The LDS takes extremely accurate distance measurements of the entire room, so it will quickly be able to know exactly where it is within the map, as long as you code it properly. :) Another thing that I like about the Roborock is that you can drive it around manually by using the "go to" function when generating the map that's going to be saved. It doesn't have to perform a complete run in order to generate the map. Hopefully this will be adopted by the Neato team as well. :)

Love our i7+! Does a great job cleaning, it’s quiet, has not gotten stuck anywhere, doesn’t get lost and we love not having to dump the bin!
@jimmyfox2315 жыл бұрын
I’ve owned both and I will say, whatever you buy you will be thrilled either way. What it came down to for me was is the extra $400 worth not cleaning out the bin for the Roomba and the Roomba it was a bit more clunky around furniture in its navigation bumping into things. So I went with the neato. With the zones now available on the neato it comes much closer features wise. With that said, the cleaning base was amazing and so hard to get ride of. To me it came down to price and navigation over auto bin cleaning convenience.

I have a Neato. It worked well for 6 months, then it stopped charging, disconnected from the Wi-Fi, and dis not light up at all. We had some issues getting a hold of support, but eventually they agreed to fix it. We sent it off to them and they fixed it no charge. They even covered shipping both ways. A robotic vacuum of some sort is a fantastic thing to have, especially when you have two dogs that shed a third dog's worth of hair every day! We fill up two of those dust bins every day

Bought the i7+ a few weeks ago. Brilliant. I never have to deal with dumping out the small bin on the robot or with de-tangling the brush. You can also now specify no-go zones on the Roomba map. We returned our Roomba 980 to Costco after only two weeks because of the hassle of emptying the bin which is quite small. We now have a Roomba i7+ and we LOVE IT! In our opinion, the extra cost is worth the money for the automatic bin emptying feature, totally awesome. One thing you didn’t talk about in your video is the i7’s no go system which works fine. It just involves no go units as opposed to the mapping system. We have no experience with the Neato unit so cannot comment about that.

I have tossed around making this purchase for some time but I am glad I did🌼 The fact that I don't have to worry about vacuuming at all makes it worth it. I can schedule times for it to run and which rooms I choose to have it vacuum. Very through and the fact that it goes much slower then you and I would vacuum, It picks up more when it goes slower giving the carpet a better clean.
@Krakzzz5 жыл бұрын
In Germany, the Neato costs half the i7+. That's one point. To everything you said: the Neato cleans better on carpet, it's the brush. The i7 can also cope with thick carpets - unlike the 980. The iRobot is more careful and almost never gets stuck. With the previous models Neato always had problems with the laser motor, the belt and the side brush. Let s see. If there is no long hair in the apartment, you rarely have to get your hands dirty. Hair is a problem with all robots because they plug brushes and drive axles. If the money isn't important, the Dockings Station makes the difference - very cool. And good competent video

I literally watched your video 7 minutes after you posted it because these 2 vacs are what I’ve been deciding on getting. I currently had the Roomba 980 and it was great but wanted something new that would do the main house. I decided to get the neato D7 because the cost was significantly a lot cheaper. Here’s my thoughts ,the neato is more quite than the Roomba. I ran the Roomba 980 yesterday morning and then ran the D7 last night and the dirt bin was completely full of dirt and dog hair. I’m thinking since the Neato has a beater bar type system it’s able to collect dirt and grab pet hair better than the roombas rollers. However the Neato seems to be getting caught on EVERYTHING, We have some longer "Shag" type rugs through the house and Roomba had NO problem cleaning on them and NEVER got stuck, The minute Neato rolls onto it the vacuum stops and gives an error about its brush is stuck....... I remembered the XV21 did the same thing....Another thing I decided against the i7+ was my Roomba has on a number of times collected receipts, and small objects I dropped that was easily retrievable from the dust bin, with the i7 once it gets to the dock and gets cleaned out you will be making a big mess and destroying the bag to get to what ever item the vacuum collected. And lastly the boundary system, This was my biggest reason I wanted a new vacuum, We are starting to leave the back sliding door open for Winter, The 980 climbs over the sliding door tracks and proceeds to vacuum the outside pool deck and even sometimes gets stuck in the yard if we dont catch it...... We have tried the LightHouses but between the way our blinds are setup and the dogs it always got moved ever so slightly allowing the 980 out the door, The Neato has the No Go Lines, so I just draw a line at the door and it has not yet passed that line, From my understanding the i7 still uses the light houses for its boundary system. (Please correct me if im wrong) So far the Neato D7 has been great even with it not doing the rugs. It seems like every time I send it out the bin is always full (We have 2 dogs and 2 Ferrets) which looks like it does a better job than the 980 we had. They are both great vacuums and both have pros and cons in different areas. Great review!

I have an older Neato BotVac Connected, one thing that failed right away was the side brush quit spinning. The belt material they used to connect the motor to the side brush stretched out, only after a few weeks of getting it. I noticed from your video that the Neato's side brush wasn't spinning at all. It might have the same problem. The side brush should be spinning 95% of the time. I have own mine now for over a year and I replaced the belt for the side brush with a better kind. I also needed to replace the pressure sensing buttons on one side because the old ones were wore out. I hope they fix those problems in the future with better materials. Robot’s marketing department shows the i7+ as the God’s send of robot vacuum cleaners because of the automatic emptying system. But what they don’t advertise is how there’s still a filter inside the dust bin that requires regular cleaning or it’ll get clogged up rather quickly. That being that, the automatic emptying system becomes kind of pointless because the end user still has to remove the dust bin to clean out the small filter. This subject is something the iRobot fan base hardly ever seems to mention.

The side brush on the Neato is like T-rex arms - vestigial and almost non-functional. Watch the video at 13:15, you can see where the magnetically attached side brush is just stuck from the ottoman. Happens in medium height carpet too. They also tend to fall off and end up in the bin too. Not a deal breaker for me as the wide cleaning head of the Neato more than makes up for the side brush issues. For this reason the D3/D4 is really the model to buy.

3 years ago I purchased Neato's first Botvac model. My house is 1400 sqr feet, has all wood floors, and I own two long haired cats. While on eco mode, it has run every single day for the past 3 years and it finally broke down last week. The point of failure is where the brush enters the motor. In your video at 1:05, look at the orange part of the brush and where it enters the motor casing. Over the years dust worked its way through that joint and 4 weeks ago the engine seized. I completely broke down the vacuum and discovered that, by design, the motor casing is not replaceable because its snapped together and might as well be part of the vacuum's plastic mold. To squeak out a few more weeks, I drilled a hole on the top part of the motor casing, squeezed in a small amount of high friction sewing machine oil, and capped the hole with two-stage plumbers glue. That got it through until last week. The vacuum itself is still completely usable and could work for decades, but this point of unrecoverable failure is forcing me to purchase a new vacuum. I plan on purchasing another Neato because I have gone through several vacuums at this point in my life, and not a single one has been able to take even half that much use.

Several years ago I strayed from Irobot for a couple of Neatos. They did do a nice job, but in my multi-pet household, never lasted past the guaranty. WOW! I always thought that Neato D7 is the best vacuum cleaner, but Roomba i7+ seems to be an even better device. Only shame that it's too expensive. Can Roomba i7 go over shaggy rugs?

Very nice review! I noticed that the brush on your D7 wasn't working properly. Did this eventually fix itself or was it just an issue with your carpet? Does your brush work properly on hardwood floors?

Sadly, it still doesn't spin. I'm not sure why

Does the D7 work on BLACK carpet or does the cliff sensor activate and prevent it from cleaning a BLACK surface?

How does the round shaped Roomba handle corners? Loved your review but missed that point. 😉
@trevortremaine84685 жыл бұрын
What's never explained in any review is the cost of maintenance/servicability. With the Neato, you're looking at filter replacement monthly, the beater bar about every 3-6 months (all depending upon usage). I don't know about the Roomba, but I think the Dyson has permanent filters and beater bars. I'm now getting my 4th Neato after problems with the first 3 - all in the course of about a year. One was defective, 2 have had broken belts (which are essentially rubber bands). So, please - buyer beware. None of these have many serviceable parts either - always have to send it in for repair.

So, my house has 3 floors. Is it possible to let it clean the normal level at monday, than relocate it to the higher level on Thursday. And than put it on the top level on Wednesday? And if this work, do I just put the neato there myself or also the charge station? Thank you forward

I like the video but I wish you had talked about tek. specs because I am most interested in one of them, the neato d7.

i prefer the design from the iRobot i7 more than the design from the Neato. In my opinon, round looks better. But this was a nice review!

Love love love my Neato. I feel the mapping technology in the Neato is more reliable and precise.

Do you have evidence of this? The reviewer that compared the two does not seem to support your feeling on this, I would like to know if what he is saying is not accurate.

Very good review! Too bad the i7 is not available for purchase for months now in Europe! Let’s hope it will be soon, the quality of the IRobot’s is phenomenal! My oldest is now 13years old and still functional! That’s why I want to upgrade to the I7 with the integrated dust removal suction unit.
@Niz-ts4rx5 жыл бұрын
I don't have the i7 but I do have the 960 which has slightly weaker suction and lacks the ability to specify rooms. I love it! The dual rubber extractors are the best, compared to the last Roomba I had from 2009. Their anti-tangle tech when it comes to cords is great too. The only issue I've had is when window blind strings occasionally get sucked up and stops the cleaning job. The compatibility with the Amazon Echo is awesome too. I just hope they can integrate it with Apple HomeKit in the future. You made such an awesome review. It would be really awesome if you could do a future comparison of the Roomba i9+ (just announced on 5/29/19) and the Neato D7, or whatever their newest high end model will be at the time. It'd be interesting to see which comes out on top since both devices have a similar design.

Great review! Glad I decided on the i7+ even before seeing this. I don't want to clean out the dustbin every day and the rollers are so old school with alot of maintenance. They both seem to clean the same so get the one that makes your life easier.

I have the original Botvac connected. I do love how well the vacuum cleans, but do you ever think that this vacuum will get the no-go lines update? I hate to have to spend more money and not use my perfectly working Neato. I would use it more if it had no-go lines because the magnetic strips really don’t work. I mean isn’t software software? If you have any contacts with Neato do you think you could find out? My husband will NOT buy the D7 just for me to have the no-go lines lol.

I am looking to get one for my parents. I am torn between getting them a neato and a i7roomba. I have had a neato XV for about 4 years, and it has been incredible with no problems, still running strong. However I am thinking it might be nice for my parents to not have to clean out the brush on the neato for getting a roomba with the rollers. Is this true about the rollers that you never have to clean them? How does the suction on the Neato compare to the Roomba. I love from experience with my Neato XV the robustness and how it's built like a tank, but the roomba seems pretty good and hart to pass up with the auto emptying for 1-3 months, as well as the speaking of what room to vaccum, that is just incredible! Anybody have any experience or opinion on what might be best in regards to the brush/roller maintenance? and suction power of each?

Xiaomi Roborock S50 is the best
@dirta95205 жыл бұрын
Honestly I had a Neato and it got stuck under chairs. As in wedging itself inside the legs dragging my chairs and scratching my floor. Same with my end tables. It more of a ram object type due to it not having the sensor on the front bumper to slow it before it bumps it. It also back up and scratches up walls. I have the old xiaomi and I like it better. My mom has the s5 and it’s very plush and easy on furniture. Set it and forget it.

Xiaomi also Has not to go zones and virtual barrier in app. I would like to ask what in terms of the precision of cleaning between I7+ and xiaomi mi roborock s50 is SLAM navigation algorithm still better than Irobot?
@Smittypie865 жыл бұрын
I prefer the Neato. More bang for you money. However the higher tier Roomba seems much better than their lesser models. Even the Neato D3 which can be found for $200-$300 has all the same options as the D7 except the side brush.. So you could get 2-3 of them for the price of that Roomba. The lidar method works better as well.
