I like all eras of Heep but I agree: you can't replace David Byron. Too bad his personal demons got the better of him. His alcoholism was the reason why he was fired and by the time Mick Box tried to get him back in the band a few years later he was too far gone.

Светлая память всем рано ушедшим музыкантам группы, теперь они шлют нам с небес свои шедевры!!! Композиция ,,Восход солнца" была записана в сентябре 1972 года и вошла в пятый студийный альбом группы ,,The Magician's Birthday"* (,,День рождение Волшебника"). Что касается cover-версий, то уже в 1973 году эту композицию прекрасно исполнял ВИА ,,Орфей" г. Выборг Дворец Культуры ,,50 лет Октября". Rock Band ,,Uriah Heep"- это яркий представитель направления, стиля, жанра Hard Rock 70-х, Арт-Рок, Прог-Рок и не только, а также это действительно ,,Сказочный герой"- есть в ней что-то магическое! I like the Lawton and Goalby lineups of Uriah Heep as well but it's impossible to duplicate the magic of the early lineup with Mick Box and David Byron. I only discovered Heep about 3-4 years ago and wish I'd been around to see them in their prime. Simply brilliant. How this band never became huge is beyond me.

David Byron was 10 times the vocalist that Robert Plant ever could be. Plant sounded good on Led Zep's studio albums, but was horrible live. Byron was great on all Heep's recordings. Too bad his personal demons did him in.

I only discovered them 3-4 years ago but I got into them. Their music was every bit as good as the proto-metal put out by the likes of Blue Cheer and Deep Purple but they never got the same level of attention. Truth be told, I don't think that Heep will die until Mick Box does. He'll keep it going as long as he's physically capable of getting up on stage. Nothing will ever duplicate the original lineup fronted by David Byron but at least Box is keeping the legacy alive.

I saw this same lineup in Albuquerque NM at Tingley back in ‘78 when Heep opened up for KISS. I didn’t know who Uriah Heep was until that concert. Heep stole the show from KISS imho.

I'm almost 35 and only discovered Heep a couple years ago. My friend who owned a vintage shop that sold records talked me into buying a couple of Heep records he had just brought in from a huge consignment collection. I was immediately hooked and have continued to buy any Heep vinyl I happened to stumble across ever since. I've listened to at least some of the Heep music from every era but the original era is still the best. Not one era is bad, though, and at least Mick Box keeps the band alive in one form or another. I think that Heep will be alive for as long as Mick Box is.

The Heep was my favorite group in high school. They were the first concert that I ever went to. They were awesome. I recently started listening to their earlier tunes. Gary Thain was freaking unbelievable.

My first concert was The Heep, Manfred Mann, and Rush in Pittsburgh in 1974. It still remains one of the best shows after all these years. Uriah Heep was my favorite band as a teenager.

Даже не представляю, что бы я отдал в середине 70-х за то, чтобы увидеть это хотя бы краем глаза. Помню, их фотки из зарубежных журналов своим фотоаппаратиком переснимал и в ванной распечатывал. Брюки-клеш как у Байрона шили...А теперь? как все меняется..... Но все равно клево! Как в детство вернулся....

The bands of that time knew drama, they knew talent. Heep. Yes. Focus. ELP. Deep Purple. Tull. So many others who knew how to do live music. It was the confluence of “moving past the blues” and great amplification and new musical technology… Add fusion, add that the greats of post-bop jazz were still playing amazing music, add that some of the towering classical players of the century were still in top form. I’m soooo glad I got to experience real music, played by the originators at their peak.

Great band, fantastic songs, David Byron was a brilliant singer and Gary Thain was a powerhouse bass player. Amazing bass lines, super energy, groove to die for and so tight with Lee Kerslake still an inspiration 50 years on. Would have received much wider recognition had his life not been cut so tragically short.
