...I was at the game the last time Iowa State won in Lincoln in '77...I was in the eighth-grade...left Ames the night before & stayed in Omaha & drove over that morning...best game I've ever seen Iowa State play...won 24-21...Dexter Green had a great game, freshman, Terry Rubley played a great game at QB...& reciever Stan Hixon made one of the best catches I've ever seen between a couple of Husker defenders hanging all over him right in front of the ISU section...Nebraska had upset Alabama the week before...they were really pointing to the ISU game because they said they were embarrassed the year before in Ames, 37-28...it sure as hell would've been nice to be playing Herbie the last 4-5 years...

Actually he's right. ISU's starting QB was out, so was their starting RB who is/was the leading rusher in all of Big 12. The RB is responsible for a lot of offense as he averages over 100 yards/game and the QB has created many other TDs besides that. Also, one of ISU's best senior D-linemen was out, and there were tons of guys who didn't play because they had the flu. There were a lot more than just 2 guys out for ISU

As an Iowa State fan, I still - for the life of me - do not and probably never will understand what in the world happened to Nebraska on that day! I am still ecstatic to *this* day that we won - it's the only Cyclone road victory against Nebraska in my entire lifetime! But yes, I have no clue how Nebraska managed such a monumental collapse! Mistakes don't even begin to describe this. Nebraska committed *four* turnovers inside Iowa State's 5-yard line! One of Nebraska's fumbles occurred when the Nebraska player *wasn't even touched!* And one of those interceptions went *between the numbers* to an Iowa State defender when there was no Nebraska receiver *within ten yards* of him! I don't think there's ever been a collapse of this proportion in all of college football history. And by that I mean, I'm sure there have been worse performances (and I wouldn't even be surprised if my Cyclones - once a historically awful team that had us cheering when we won 3 games one season - put up some of those ourselves at some point in our history, especially given we still had to play powerhouses like Texas, Oklahoma, and then-national championship caliber teams like Kansas State, Colorado, and yes, even Nebraska every year while we were suffering those awful stretches). But the difference here is that it was a (at that time, still widely considered to be a) *blue blood* program in Nebraska (at home, with a nearly fully healthy roster) that was playing that awfully, and doing so against a non-Blue Blood team with more than half our starters out! Yes, I've seen Blue Blood programs have massive collapses with 6+ turnovers against other blue blood programs - but I can't think of a single other example where something like *this* has happened! Again, I still have no clue what happened on this day! But yes, history was truly made that day in the most bizarre way I've ever seen!

Nebraska 2009 defense was so godly too bad it got paired up with the worst offense in the history of college football. Zac Lee worst Nebraska quarterback of all time💀💀
@andrewcramer92002 жыл бұрын
Lee had a wrist injury. Watch the first two games, albeit against lesser competition. He was dropping balls in buckets all over the field. Then against Virginia Tech, he got hurt, and the evidence was on the play where Curenski Gilleylen was standing all by himself. A good throw would have been an easy touchdown and a Nebraska win, but Lee threw the worst effing completed pass I've ever seen in my life: a dead duck that CG at least managed to catch, but had to go down almost immediately. Nebraska either didn't score or settled for yet another field goal, whatever, and lost.

There was are some reasons why the score was only 9-7 despite ISU getting 8 turnovers. 1. ISU got about 5 turnovers inside their own 20. 2. ISU was without their starting QB and RB due to injuries the previous week 3. Nebraska had the best defense in the conference 4. ISU got a couple INT's late in the game where they just wanted to eat up clock, and take no chances of having a turnover of their own, so they played the field position game.
