I'm more upset that this is actually better than some college lectures I've had to listen to..

Likely helps its on an interesting topic rather then an obligation. I dont think I did particularly well in the presentation but I am glad you (possibly) enjoyed it!

When i saw this i thought this was ganna perun style video and switched off from 1 1h power point about war economics to another. The lecture style and constand discord noises is equally funny

The discord noises are so you can't swap off, clearly. Pay attention to the lecture while in class! That said, I do apologize; future lecture-type videos will be conducted with pings disabled and probably in a stage channel; it just wasn't something I thought about until I already started.

You might've labeled this a parody presentation, but I've taken very real notes, and I think this has helped me mentally grasp this type of ordnance in-game. Thanks for putting this together and presenting it!

Damn fine tutorial on one of neb's more complicated tools. Next time you do one of these, I recommend using streamer mode for discord to avoid all the lil noises and ask a moderator to deal with anyone making lots of background noise.

A series on mines in particular? Or on various game concepts? I have been considering the latter, but it's a time investment I am unsure if I can make right now.

@@Tuna224th various concepts, especially for newer players. I get that it would be a massive undertaking tho considering the depth of this game and that the features are still being added and are subject to change.

I would hae never thought to differentiate between attended and unattended blocking fields, but its a fair distinction. You expect an unattended blocking field to be breached, its meant only to slow down an advance, but blocing miknefields as part of a greater system of defensve fortification are meant to pin or funnel the enemy ao they can be more effectively be engaged by other weapons.
@Tuna224th

Yup its an important element! No minefield in isolation is undefeatable, regardless of investment. Where it really starts being a threat is when you start making the enemy feel pressured and start degrading their capabilities.

Ive travelled too far down the nebulous rabbit hole just trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing again. Last thing i expected is a college lecture on mines lol.

It appears my Electronic Warfare Practical Lab change it scheduled class times to Friday instead of being Thursday and now they overlap in the last 30 minutes of class. Will I be able to leave class early or should I consult my course coordinator?

Afraid not, you must talk to your electronic warfare professor and see how you can fix this intersection, or otherwise obtain lecture materials another way.

I am in the Missile Programming faculty and also decided to take a additional General Battlespace Tactics course, which means i've got three lectures a week with our wing's EW professor, and we're on good terms. I can send you some of the lectures, drop me your hypermail address.

I imagine people that have been here and are successfully using mines probably wont come back, but in case someone does come back, have you been able to use mines effectively in matches after this? I want to try using mines more, but almost no one seems to use them, and i think everything I've seen in game or on youtube is unified fields, which generally arent very effective (One capping sprinter and its gone, or just a big ship bullying through and ignoring, or 2 vauxhalls and escorts just walking in and popping mines with RPF as they went). I see the logic in mixed mine fields definitely, as well as Jamming support. Not so much on ambushing while people are clearing though, as I've never seen anyone stop to take out a minefield.

I wrote a whole small essay that youtube appears to have blocked, so I'm going to avoid details since I don't know what triggered that. Mines work still, quite effectively at that though you need to support them. Monofields are a low effort low cost solution for cappers but mixing is still recommended. Players walking into fields to clear them can be rather predictable, making them vulnerable to ambush.

@@Tuna224th Yeah, I wasn't questioning you, I was just wondering if anyone that had seen the video had put your suggestions to good effect, as it's so rare to see anyone using mines in game. I've given it a go myself following the above (just a blocker setup for now), and my big mixed Minefield (40 Mattocks, 20 Sprints, and 20 Co-ops) helped win a match, and netted me around 32K damage all told. For anyone else's interest, it was a match on Tombstone, and I mined up the E and D point. I don't know if the enemy necessarily noticed the mines on E, but a small group of Vauxhalls tried to clear the mines on D in the later half of the match. They lost one ship that strayed around the rock, then as the other was trying to deal with the mines using RPF (he did in fact actually stop to deal with the mines, holy moly), I used a Jamming shuttle to distract him. He shifted fire, and I guess he inched forward, and got a good selection of mines into his front side. That was the end of the two Vauxhalls, and I chased off their Jammer escort with my Monitor. Later, ANS sent a sprinter to try and back-cap D, apparently not knowing that there were still plenty of mines over there. Those remaining mines stormed into their capper, and we were able to hold off their attempt to cap D a second time, which ultimately led to our winning the match (Heck, I even got congratulations from the other chap that was left as well as the spectator on my good Mining :D). So thankyou for the Ted talk! Hopefully when the Devs get around to it, they'll be able to make an advanced training course with mines, that explains some of the points you've put forward. I really don't think I could have figured mines out *at all* without some of these points.

Is it possible to mute the discord notification sounds? it is louder than your voice and sometimes there are multiple consecutive joins/leave which cover your voice for good part of the sentence.

Discord doesn't even appear in the volume mixer. Either way, yes, it is annoying, and I can fix it going forward. There is little I can do about it now, though.
