WoW has never caught my attention, classic or retail, and I'm sure there are plenty of people my age (early 30s) that will feel the same. FF14 caught my attention in 2013 and i was amazed it caught my attention since the only MMO I've ever seen or heard about was WoW and it didnt look like a game I would like. Besides that, what's the demographic of younger people playing WoW? We old folks will die sooner than the majority of gamers now and they probably want something that will last longer. The only people I ever hear mention WoW are people that have been playing it for years. I'm not saying Riot MMO has to be like FF either it needs to be something new. Want WoW? Go to WoW. Want FF? Go to FF. You need to make something new that will hopefully attract all the new people that don't play any other MMO and if its good it will attract the current MMO players cause theyll understand its a new twist and want to check it out.

I have never played classic wow i was quite young when it came out and starting now on those old grafics not a chance so i dont quite get the hype about classic wow vs all the other mmo but whatever the path riot takes with their mmo i hope its a good one

I kinda think people don't specifically want the "classic formula" but more the nostalgia behind it. I mean, it was a cultural phenomenon and is also a bit of a hard flex that you played vanilla, that gets used all too often. I've a feeling Rioters know what's up and this is good news

Personally, I dont like that so many games in this day and age try to give the player 'absolute freedom'. In terms of MMO-RPGs I dont like creating only one character and beeing able to switch to other classes whenever I want. In my opinion it leads to half assed choices and half assed experiences. I want the old experience where I would create my favourite role first. Experience the game with a focus in mind, trying to do this job the best I can, slipping into the role of for example my dwarven warrior and if after many many hours I feel like playing another role I'd have to make another character in which I could manifest all my thoughts of what a healer would look like to. At least thats what I think.

Wanted to mention almost the entirety of Bioware's old staff, including all of the founding members, left between Mass Effect 2 and Anthem's development. Might want to throw out all of your expectations from prior Bioware games. If you want a down and dirty for Anthem's production check out Anthem - What Happened? by Matt McMuscles. He also did one for Andromeda. A lot of really useful info thrown at ya in 20 minutes

here's my take Necrit, take this with a pinch of salt but I think I might have a clue what they're aiming for Since they got the lead dev of Mass Effect and also have a senior who worked on Star Wars Galaxies, I am thinking they are going to go for a fully fledged world of Runeterra where you can use giant ships, tame mounts, traverse across the entirety of Valoran and have a good impactful combat while at it, i think they're also gonna focus on player building (SWG focused heavily on that, you could literally board ships and build on them if i could recall correctly) they're basically making an interactable world where everything is dynamic and live. Also since there's some experienced devs with guns, it's also gonna have some sick gunplay (maybe with hextech technology) but that's my take on it, hope you see this comment and tell me what your opinion is PS: also I've looked at some footage of Mass Effect and they use HUGE monsters in the world and i was imagining Watchers or void/darkin bosses roaming the world with that size...could be actually incredible and next gen for an mmo

Everyone will go to classic wow whenever they want to play it, and trying to emulate that might be a lost battle, even before it starts. I believe Riot knows this, which is why they want to spice things up. Whatever RiotMMO brings to the table is going to be what makes the game a hit, or what makes people go back to wow. In any case, I think this is good, and I understand that it is dumb to try to compete with that. I trust Riot's ability to make fun games, and they usually do well and differentiate from the competition (dota - league. shooters-valorant, where valo is doing an incredible job in the scene). We can hate Riot as much as we like to lol, but I believe they make quality products. I will gladly play RiotMMO and have fun when it comes out, and probably complain about its monetization lol

I bet they got feedback and they realized they could make a way better game… I’m willing to bet they are going to make action combat like Black Desert/Guild Wars, open world like WoW, maybe one character that can switch classes like FFXIV.

Yeah how dare they be angry about waiting for a video game for 10 years....i was hoping to play riot mmo in maybe late 2025 or early 2026 now we find out that its been reset so we have to wait even fucking longer for a VIDEO GAME

Idk I never liked the mmo Formula, I think it always was a lot of beating meatballs with sticks. The gameplay was always very different (in contrast to shooter and modern league) and more about resource management. And a lot of rpgs got people used to a standard of gameplay (examples are Elden ring, dark souls, Witcher and even low runners like Skyrim) which makes the old gameplay a bit lackluster. So as you always say: gameplay is key and old mmo gameplay is not a thing for some people.

Yeah I most definitely DON'T want a WoW reskin. I never really liked MMOs but I really want to like the Riot MMO so I'm PRAYING that they stick to making a Riot special enjoyable experience.

I feel like it's not fair to ask the crowd that tunes into your stream when you are a major WoW mark. I DO NOT want a WoW Classic-like. I want a game like SWTOR with proper support where it's story first, Raiding Second, with a strong community where you can find people to do the end game with but you can also spend 500 hours just running through story beats. My Favourite MMOs have always been SWTOR, Tera because of how good it felt to play (pre sellout), and Elder Scrolls. I will always be in love with Story First MMOs that you can play with your friends and the game fees like it actually acknowledges when you are playing the main game in MULTIplayer.

Does anyone actually care about a game that MAY come out in 10 years, especially when that game is going to be an mmo based on Runeterra lore, something that is already dead? I think Riot should focus more on building the lore of their universe so that there is actual hype for the playable version of this world. (when and if it ever releases)

uh idk, if the MMO come out and it require you to play 7 different riotforge games in 7 different genre to even begin to understand the narrative... doesnt sound like a good idea. it will mostly put people off more than bring people in.

Also for context on New World, I have over 300 hours in that game and I can tell you why its dying. Not only is it grindy in a boring way, but the lore is such a background part of the game, you don't even notice it. You have little to no agency as a players or incentives to keep playing unless you want the pvp side of things. The reason I personally quit, was they took a region out of the game to "rework" it and then announced it was coming out behind the DLC paywall. You can't have a mount unless you buy the DLC, you can't use the new weapons unless you buy the DLC, you cant play with anyone that's on there without the DLC because everyone is enjoying the new content added. Not to mention there's also a battle pass, an in game shop, and the game costs 40 dollars if i remember right. That made the game fail in my eyes. I loved NW for the community I found there and it was my first mmo since old-school Runescape. They failed their player base but what else can you expect from an Amazon game. With the Riot mmo, SEVERAL years after we've already been patiently waiting for news is just sad. I understand they want to do things a certain way but like you said, we're all wanting that classic mmo feel in the Runeterra universe. Over time, people lose hype for big releases, especially when the date is pushed back. All of us are excited to be able to insert ourselves into the lore and universe, and see what cool systems, items, and champions they add into the game. I'm also interested to see the art direction, and the immersion of the game. We can only hope they don't fuck it up by being overly ambitious when its not what the consumer base wants.

WoW has been dead for a while now. Nobody is playing or raiding, go look up how much high-end content is being completed atm. Pvp is at its lowest. Now a WoW battleroyal mode that no one likes and no one will play 😂😂

I think you have some heavy nostalgia glasses for classic WoW... Don't get me wrong, I understand people love that old school feel for WoW, but I have always felt it was boring.

It's sorta like rewatching your favorite show over and over again. Don't want to move on because new stuff isn't appealing and the comfort of always logging on and knowing what to do is easy. WoW was also the mmo that kinda made the genre explode into what it is today because there was nothing like it back in the day. Nostalgia is a powerful tool.

Hot take: I dont want the Riot MMO to follow the "Classic" route in game building. From marketing pov as well as from gaming point there is literally ZERO reasons to go "Classic". What's the point of repeating WoW? I would be glad if Riot follow the same logic.
