This is the second new video on necromancy I've seen. The first came out a couple days ago: Final Girl Studios' "Capitalist Necromancy: The Danger of Nostalgia as Merchandise" and is well worth watching, though the approach is more quasi-marxist personal essay than academic/esoteric.

My opinion on the afterlife is that there are many different spirit worlds (e.g. Helheim, Asgard, Vanaheim, Hades, Sheol, Heaven, Goloka, Naraka, etc.) that people can go to after death depending on factors such as their culture, their ancestry, which deities they worship, their karma/wyrd, etc., and that specific deities in various pantheons (e.g. Hel in Norse/Germanic Paganism) are responsible for reincarnating souls who are ready to let go of their past identity. The death deities are largely cooperative with each other in sending people where they need to go. Contacting the dead can be accomplished through evocation and/or through shamanic journeys to the spirit worlds, e.g. making an appointment to meet a dead person in the visitor's area in Helheim. The primary purpose of working with the dead should be to satisfy their lingering desires to help them move on, in my opinion, but I think it is acceptable to make offerings in exchange for enlisting a spirit's assistance for magical/shamanic purposes. I see attempts to dominate or enslave spirits as highly dangerous, including spirits typically objectified as "evil" or "insentient shells" as described by texts such as the Lesser Key of Solomon; the karma for such enslavement of spirits has the potential to lead to being enslaved as a spirit oneself after death.
