Seeing this in the theater was nuts. No one I was with expected this movie to be good, but if you're a sci-fi fan at all, it just hits all the right notes.

I always thought this was one of the most 'Warhammer 40K' looking "planetary invasions" ever...they do a great job of capturing the scale that's described in those books. And the helpless dread of the populace. Imagine that the Necromongers are actually Iron Warriors and the Helion Prime troops are the local PDF.

I have a question. Are the Necromongers a nomadic society? Or do they have planets and conquered land of their own? That’s a scary question I had when watching this scene. Because on one hand if that’s all of them, a united force of empires or whatever it is in Riddick could band together and fight them. But if this is let’s say a vanguard or capital fleet that would imply there are sooooo many more of these bastards
@lowlywarboy Жыл бұрын
You could say the Necromongers are nomadic. They conquer systems and then convert or kill the populations. Necromongers don’t reproduce so recruiting from their defeated foes is the only way to replenish their ranks. Keep in mind their doctrine is based on attacking systems by surprise and sacking / converting the populations before any counter offensive can be mounted. Most people (at this point in the riddick universe) don’t even believe the necromongers are even real, let alone that they are a crusading fleet posing an existential threat to all sentient life in the universe. Check out the riddick wiki if you want to know more.
@OlamRii Жыл бұрын
They are nomadic the largest ship contains what was once the capital city on their planet . You are correct they could be easily wiped out but from how they operate they seem to go for isolated planets to build strength

Said it in a previous video, I’ll say it again. This is when you’re like ‘we gave up nukes WHY?!’. A single nuke when they were inbound and the incoming would have been annihilated whole. End of invasion. Also, this society seems to have forgotten how to have a military.
@christianriddler50632 жыл бұрын
If you blow up a nuclear bomb in the upper atmosphere then that creates an EMP. This EMP will fry all electrical equipment in an area of hundreds of miles. It could do extreme damage the electrical, water, sewage, food storage infrastructure. You can't just blow up nukes and ignore the consequenses... People these days..
@RedneckRapture2 жыл бұрын
@@christianriddler5063 If you detonated it farther out, say when they were at the orbit of your moon, it would have destroyed the invasion force without all that. And even then, when facing an invasion from forces you know will kill everyone on the planet, most sane governments would choose rebuilding all their electrical infrastructure over being invaded and losing. Even the US has widespread use of nuclear weapons as part of its 'defend the nation against invaders' policy. Personally, if I was their leadership and we lost the effort to defend against an invasion of genocidal cultists like these, I would detonate nuclear weapons at every major occupied zone in an effort to wipe them out so the next planet wouldn't suffer our fate.

shoot a nuclear bomb right above the city... do you hear yourself? Plus, it was clearly a surprise attack, considering the civ population wasn't already in bunkers/safety/whatever they have.
