Though I also wouldn't put it past those guardians of life, in the sense that for life to continue they probably aren't above taking some lives.

Still one of the most unique and innovative visions of sci-fi in the history of cinema that, I dare say, has never come close to being imitated or bettered. So much other big budget stuff looks the same (especially now) but The Fifth Element remains unmatched and truly unique.

This movie is at the top of my ‘escape’ list right along side “Total Recall”, “Independence Day”, “Day the earth stood still” and “War of the worlds”. Another great one is “The Time Machine”. All the originals not the remakes.

"The Fifth Element" was a great movie, but it was also a different kind of movie! I saw it when it first came out in the theaters many years ago, it has problem been over a decade or so ago. I still like it and i remember it right off the bat, like it was yesterday. It was a special kind of sci-fi movie with action, comedy, and even some dramatic moments.

If I remember correctly, there was no return to the crypt. They carried away the sarcophagus and it was recovered from their crashed ship 300 years later (on the moon?).

Oops, you're right, they did return. I'm willing to give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt and assume the priest, as concerned about hiding the secret as he was, returned and remover the alien's body. Maybe Aziz and his friends helped.

The fifth Element is the union of the male and female principle, divine spark of the ongoing Life in the middle of the four Elements. Luc Besson is a Freemanson and his movies are an initiation of first degree. But you have the same story building in the Brother Grimm’s tales, for example.

The ending of that scene never made sense to me. 1 - what was the rush? 2 - how did a couple of bullets trigger the stone wall to close? 3 - why didn't they just open the stone wall again? 4 - where was the alien body when they returned to the tomb 300 years later?

I guess they had to leave in 5 minutes or miss a wormhole. But same here such a plot loop hole and mess really. Made no sense and the body we can assume was removed by the cult protecting them so everything was hidden and covered up.

One thing still bothers me : What the hell happened to Aziz? Did the mondochwan do the flashy thing with him on the way out like they did with the Professor? Or did they just figure that they had what they came for and as a kid no one would believe him anyway if he went blabbing about what he saw? Or did the priest swear/persuade/bribe him and the other kids to secrecy never to speak about what happened? This is one of my all time favorite movies in visuals, story, acting, soundtrack. I want to build a Mondochwan suit so badly.

It was intentional tough, even in the 90s, this was not just talent. They were called very nasty names for choosing to show such a diverse future. Look at how star trek had to go the extra mile to make a diverse cast against criticism. People back then were even more racist. Artists and directors have been trying to do better and help society through using diverse actors for decades, and people raged about it and hated them for being “woke” and their older equivalents for decades. We just forget about all that and only remember some snippets of the past. We remember hippies but we forget the larger conservative backlash. We remember suffrage but forget women’s oppression. We remember the emancipation proclamation more than the failure of reconstruction. It’s just easier to understand if you simplify and flatten history
