Let me know what you think of the playlist, and what colour you chose for your buildings too! If you have any other questions about painting anything from Ash Wastes-ask below!
@oldirondog Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the excellent tutorials! After a several decade break from painting terrain and miniatures your videos have helped me get back into the hobby smoothly. That huge stack of Ash Waste terrain isn't quite so terrifying now. Oh and I went with The Fang (gray/blue?) for my test cargo container. Will probably use it on several of the hab units too, it contrasts the rust blooms really well.

So glad you liked it and it helped you get some painting done pal. Welcome back in.

Just want to say a big thanks for this video. I'm making an Ash Waste table and I used your method to paint my hubs. I'm really happy with the way they turned out.

That’s so awesome to hear, really appreciate you coming back to let me know that. Thanks so much and I’d love to see the table if you ever post it anyway, tag me!
Love your technique! I also agree scenery and buildings are a backdrop, not the focus of the tabletop! Keep 'em coming!

Will do pal don’t worry about that.

Excellent video! One question though, why not just prime in a dark brown color first instead of the black?
@MediocreHobbies Жыл бұрын
I always prime in black anyway, I didn’t have brown primer plus to me a full coat of black makes every thing look painted even when it’s in shadow and you can’t reach it properly

Mate, I love this, more confident now to tackle the big box of plastics. I like red but wanting a lighter coloured set of buildings, what paint would you suggest to really lighten them up, even thinking a white base or light grey? would that suit this technique at all?
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
You could jump up with the red again and go to evil suns scarlet.

Great job! On the topic of the terrain not taking away from the minis: I am first of all a terrain builder before mini painter. I love sinking 40h+ into one house including scratch building it from XPS or cardboard. I spend a lot less time on minis. Last project were some oldhammer Swordmasters of which I painted 10 in 8:25h with an above tt standart with a night sky banner. Especially your advice with the leadbelcher + contrast gems helped me safe time quite a bit

Great work and inspirational stuff Andy. I went with death guard green for a sort of military and ash/chemical waste look. Your tutorials are really helpful!

Oh the green is a good choice. Tag me of you post it anywhere I’d love to see. And thank you for the kind words.

Awesome tutorial mate. Very easy to do. I personally think miniatures and scenery go hand in hand. As my personal answer to your question...The minis should be the focal point i totally agree...but they come to their full right interacting with the enviroment. Especially with games like Necromunda, Warcry...most skirmish games in my opinion. In larger full scale wars, then scenery should indeed be background as it is hard to let a full 30 man unit interact with a ruin or somethiing, but in a skirmish game this can make for a great narrative . But that could also be because i create loads of terrain haha. Great video as always man 👍
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
I think I agree with you fully. Smaller games tend to be more narrative and as such such have more detailed scenery. Thanks pal.

I'll be painting mine to fit in to a more wooded terrain for my temperate rainforest-based ork army. I'm going to try and mix it in with my Ork Kill team and Big Mek's Workshop terrain. One of the buildings is going to be a hut for my ancient metal Warhammer Fantasy boar shaman (i.e. my chief Weirdboy), another a sort of throne room for the warboss, and another is going to be the upstairs for the mek shop. Aside from orking them up with random bits and glyphs, there's gonna be a lot of ferns growing around their bases, mud, stray leaves in the gutters and on the floors, and vines hanging off of them. All very "Mecha Ewok".

Another great vid! My Nomads are looking good and about ready to go play my first game on Saturday and my Orlocks will be fast behind them along with the scenery. Great series pal, really encouraged me to get stuck in with getting this set painted straight away.

Wonderful Tutorial. I wonder if the final result would look equally as striking using The Fang as opposed to Mephiston Red.

I was planning on waiting to see how you painted your hab units before tackling my own, but I got impatient and had a go at my first one yesterday, but am pleased to say that (with the exception of mine being blue instead of red), I followed pretty much all the same steps as you... I think after watching so many of your videos recently, I must have been channeling your style without realising it!

Great channel and content, but please fix your audio levels! They’re all over the place. Makes watching on a tv very difficult without having to constantly max out volume and then reduce it for the louder parts.
