The purpose for the Eldar's entire existence, swept away with the phrase "But this didn't help much."

The War in Heaven wasn't really about the Old Ones denying the Necrons the gift of immortality; it was merely a ploy by the Silent King to unite the Necrontyr against a common enemy. I think it's also fair to say, judging from some of the Necron books, that they wouldn't settle for anything less than immortality anyway, so there is that. They are still my favourite faction in 40k though.

if they were given extended lives and removal of all their ailments they probably would have been fine with it, cause to be fair to them, they were living such horrendous lives that literally anything else would be better

What comes to mind...... that Webway thingy seems to be pretty cool (since it allows space travel without having to hang out with the chaos gods in the warp to do so). Since the Emperor himself had the Webway as his project following the great wars, I wonder how far he came before his forlorn son caused all the desaster.

The Necrons do have other means of FTL travel than just the webway, though it was the fastest. They also have the mysterious "inertialess drive" that I'm sure The Silent King also had equipped on his ship, so he probably travelled more than just 60 million light years. They say its about equal to modern inperial ships in warp speed, so potentially 10s of thousands of times faster than light. It's the difference between a few dozen galaxies explored and a few dozen thousand to hundreds of thousands of galaxies explored. Even on the lowest possible end he must have acquired a vast amount of knowledge but exponentially more so when you factor in FTL speeds. Not a factor to leave out on my opinion!
@DeathBYDesign66611 ай бұрын
I also know that it was a massive continent or planet sized ship, but we only know that craftworlds can't travel FTL, we have no idea what a Necron version would be capable of. With the inertialess drive size and mass might not be an issue and the eldar don't have that capability. Plus humanity has built ships that size that also have FTL capabilities, a.k.a The Phalanx and Sparenza Ark Mechanicus. There is no canon reason to assume it had no such capabilities.

Necrons can de-stabilise the warp my friend. They can essentially send daemons back from whence they came. The fall of cadia is basically about Abaddon throwing a blackstone fortress at a Necron pylon which was holding back Chaos from exiting the eye of terror en masse. Their technology is insane, they're a great foil to basically EVERY army. Tyranids can't cosume them for regeneration, Chaos get suppressed and returned to the warp, Eldar tech is inferior to Necron, and all bio-organic species get wrecked by Gauss weaponry

Question to the more lore-versed: If the Necron wish to preserve life in the galaxy to one day aquire living bodies again and not be left alone in an empty galaxy, and even aid other races against the Tyranoids.... why are there Astartes fighting Necrons and being killed by them? I dimly remember a sequence of a Death Guard and a Salamander fighting Necrons. 😮 What do I miss here?

A lore should be created where the armies of the Humans, Tau, and Orks form a temporary alliance to completely eradicate the Tyranid & Necron forces, because in my opinion those are the two greatest threats to Humanity in the Warhammer universe. yes, canonically it was embedded in their genome to the point they couldnt get rid out of it
@jaiclary842311 ай бұрын
I dont go to warhammer for the physics, but it breaks immersion when the author starts right off completely misunderstanding how long it would take to travel between stars at close to the speed of light. Earth is in a relatively sparse area and even we have neighbors about 4 light years away. Thousands of years? Not even close.
@DeathBYDesign66611 ай бұрын
But assuming they were originally looking for better habitable planets they might have gone a bit further out. It did take them thousands of years to finally meet other sentient races. There is still much more galaxy left after the first few hundred light years or so, so yes most of the Galaxy would take thousands of years at light speed.
@jaiclary842311 ай бұрын
@@DeathBYDesign666 Sure, and you're only crossing 1% of the milky way in 1,000 years, but 1% is still really, *really* big, with roughly a billion stars on average. So those incredibly long journeys would happen eventually, but probably not before they're spread across countless planets, even at relatively modest habitable planet density.
@TheCorrodedMan11 ай бұрын
They existed in the Halo Stars man. That’s basically just a big ring of MAYBE habitable star systems that surrounds the galaxy on all sides. They might have had closer targets, but those targets were probably either dead or home to aliens too powerful for the Necrontyr to combat effectively.
@DeathBYDesign66611 ай бұрын
@@TheCorrodedMan It's just basic math bro! There will always be more of the Galaxy at the 1000s of light years distance than stars relatively close to home, that would be true for anywhere in the galaxy. Some were obviously much closer but I would guess that so many more would have been much further away. They had the stasis fields also so they didn't really need to limit the distance plus relativity combined we're talking days of travel time from their perspective.
@manu_spawn11 ай бұрын
You do know travel in 40K is unrealistic and uses dimensions and time (depending on the species) to travel, right?
