Here's a look at one of our nectarine trees in season and the damage animals and other pests can do to the fruit.

always learn something from your videos Mark. Thanks for taking the time to post them. 8 inches of snow here in my area on Saturday. only thing growing here is some green beans under a light. I built a bookshelf with 100 year old barn wood. the bottom I made a 12 inch deep box and lined it with some pond liner and filled with dirt. the light hangs under the 1st book shelf. Have a Jesus filled day. Greg in Michigan

+Keyplayr61 Greenhouse Hydroponics And Gardens Hey Keith, actually I hate summer here because it can get unbearably hot but it's not just the heat it's the humidity that makes it so uncomfortable! BTW, I tried your green plum with salt idea and I quite liked it! I'll be doing some more experimenting with green plums and salt this season - maybe even dry some... Cheers :)

+Raf's Kitchen Garden Thanks Raf, yes I'm surprised at how well this tree is fruiting at such a young age as it's only a few years old. Cheers :)

Beautiful nectarines, Mark! I can see why the birds are eating them.

Oh my. With the rat problem I had when I lived in, Florida, I can sure relate to that. Those critters got to just about everything right before it ripened enough for me to want to eat. Ugh. I feel for you. I hope you can beat your critters at their own game.

+Gardening With Puppies Hey Paula, yeah I don't think I will ever totally win over the critters but as long as I can get reasonable harvests I'll be happy enough - the prob is when they take most! Cheers :)

I prefer Nectarines because I don't like peach fuzz. The Australian draught was featured on our news this morning. Is it affecting you at all I noticed that it still looks nice and green in your video,

+Dale Calder I'm the same and like the smooth skin rather than the fuzzy peach. No Dale, the drought is west and north west of us and yes it's getting very bad with about 70% of our whole state declared emergency drought conditions. However, we live on the SE part of Australia and have been getting regular rain for the past 12 months - luckily. We have no problems with water here but our farmers inland are struggling terribly and I hope they get some good falls soon...

Haha - you're a little bit different Mark ;-). My daughter won't eat peaches unless they're peeled (I'm not peeling them btw). Great looking production from such a small tree - mine was all blossom and no fruit this year but it might be a season behind yours (same variety though - tropical). Do you net them after flowering mate? Figuring you want to remove them after fruiting and would want the bees for pollination in spring.

+Ben Jamin Hey Ben, yeah I'd usually net once flowering is finished and I see the fruit developing. I netted my plum last year (the tree next to this one) and got several jars of great jam out of the tree - just on our last jar now... This year I didn't net any of the tree except for our apple and this was probably a mistake because of fruit fly. Not necessarily in the fruit but also stinging the fruit early and causing them to drop when still green. Oh well, live and learn... :)

WHAT?! Tropical Nectarine is a thing??? It's my second favorite fruit and I'd love to grow it at my home in Martinique If they can handle the climat, I did a quick research but can't find anything. When I'll be ready would you be so kind to mail be a stone?

I have White Satin, Sunbob and Super Dwarf Sunset. There's also Tropic Snow, Sunwright, Sunraycer, SunnyBelle and the TangOs Flat Nectarine. All are supposed to fruit in the subtropics, like here in Bundaberg.

My Nectarines always get stolen by Possums. I put a bird netting on my peach as I nearly lost most of my nectarines. Apparently this area in Melbourne has bad possum problems. Don't your donut peaches and nectarines get stolen by them?
