My mother always ordered pizza with anchovies, and it was supposed to be a ‘treat’ so saying I don’t like it meant I was being ungrateful. Anchovies are little salted fish canned in olive oil, with bones included, on pizza. Imagine that being the treat for a birthday meal, and being told it’s good as a child? Guess what I still don’t eat? Forcing people to eat things they have tried and don’t like is so strange to me.
@CuratedVibes Жыл бұрын
Anchovies are the least popular pizza topping so I get it. My dad used to force feed us gross breakfast cereals and I hated drinking the soggy milk after. I would sit at the table all morning. Traumatized... I never forced my kid to eat what he didn't like. It's such a waste of food and time.

Awesome, well needed conversation. It hit home when they were talking about how to interact with our kids. I’ve had to check myself a few times because the same insecurities I had as a kid, I can’t expect my children to somehow have my 40+ year old mind at the age of 12.

Many don't understand that you can state what you need at an "intake appointment". It's important to have a therapist that most definitely understands your culture, upbringing etc and not be afraid to call you on your ish. You have to be able to open up and feel comfortable.
@pearsonphd17112 жыл бұрын
Very true. Also, clients sometimes want to just " get it off their chest" so they'll show up for the intake and not return for a follow-up appointment.

I am a big advocate and supprter for people living their lives the way that they choose to want to. What I do not support is them bringing their confusion, chaos and straight up b.s. into my life in the process. Certain sh*+ you just can't do if you want to be a part of my life and that's all there is to it. If you condone sucka sh*+, you're a sucka, too.

They feel free enough to say I dont want to, because one they dont have the proper respect on expressing themselves. And two they tested the parental fences enough to find a weakness that they realized they can push back against the parents " "boundary" wall and they fold. So that means the parents have to have a conversation on respectful boundaries. Because at the end of the day you still are responsible parents and have to set boundaries. Otherwise the children feel they can choose to listen or obey their parents🤷🏾♀️ The cycle that we was raised with hearing because I said so. May not be the route you go as a parent. Just having regular conversations and listening in a way your child needs to be heard.
