Police do interfere, they arrested an owner of a house because the squatter called on the owner (of her beautiful house) when she changed the locks of her own house, when the squatter was not there. The squatter had the owner arrested.

That's what I mean about self-help. The police will respond to criminal activity, but when the line is blurred because the laws are poorly constructed, that doesn't mean citizens can take the law into their own hands without risk of crossing a clearly established legal line.

How many squatters are law abiding? Squatting as a volunteer law enforcement informer should be enough to get rid of the original squatters.

Unfortunately, only a judge can determine whether someone who is occupying the property is a squatter. They may call themselves a tenant or even an owner of the property. As such, both you and they are given an opportunity to hash that out in the courts.

@@LandlordAttorneyreminds me of all that nonsense with Randy Quaid and his wife, they were hiding after skipping out on a court case over a hotel they had trashed in California. So they ran, and went to squat in their old house that they had sold many years prior. They were there for a while and kept saying the house was legally theirs bc the deed the new owner had was forged or something. Anyways they were trashing the place and the only way they got them out was the police coming to arrest them for failure to appear I think? Before that every time the cops came out they couldn’t do anything.

State: TX Me: ex-tenant Landlord: Greystar Lease: TAA Lease Question: *Without Refile* What's Greystar's legal entitlement after their dismissal that allows them to pursue debt collection for the same alleged debt they tried suing for?

There may be a few missing details. If the dismissed matter was an eviction, then that would have no effect on the full contractual claims of the lease. If it was a regular civil lawsuit, and if the dismissal was "without prejudice," then Greystar can refile at any time during the statute of limitations period. TAA leases are a scourge: Carefully read the bedbug addendum. Any tenant can get stuck with the bill for a whole building. If you have a nice financial reserve, NEVER let a landlord know about it.
