Hi Tom. Canada here. Enjoyed your video especially the driving tour of your area in the Netherlands.. Have been to the Netherlands a few times and each time I felt like it was visiting the future.

Wow!!! Thanks

Okay, I am really suprized you only have a handful of subscribers. You are a wicked great skills that are just amazing. I always love watching your videos. I am now returning to rc airplanes after a 20 year no fly zone. I am just getting back to flying and I find I am really rusty. I had to take a reality check and start back with a beginner airplane. Some day I want to be able to fly closer to your skill level. So you are a great inspiration!!!! Thanks for the pep talk!!!! Keep up the great work. I will keep you in mind. THANKS!!!!!

If I had the money, Id fly over there to get some personal instruction. You sound like you know what you’re doing, and from the content I’ve watched on your channel, I know you are a great pilot. All I can do at the moment however is subscribe and watch. Some day, I do want to go fly with some people like Bruce in New Zealand, Pilot Robert in Slovenia and a few others including you. Keep on making great content. 👍😎

Hi Tom, I love watching your videos and as a Tundra flyer, find them most helpful. Here's something that you may be able to help with. I am a returning flyer after many years off. I bought a Tundra as a 'trainer', love it and have passed the BMFA 'A' Certificate here in the UK. However, when the wind gets up I struggle, yet you describe it as your 'go to' plane in strong winds. Maybe it's a trim thing, or use of flaps or even a bit of ballast, but if you have any tips on flying the Tundra in stong winds and enjoying it that would be really helpful Thank you.

Joanne Sharpe hi! I think the best tip is to change your mental approach. If your goal is to make the same flight as you would with normal winds you will struggle because you will be fighting the wind all the time. So when it’s windy, make a windy flight, don’t fight the wind but see it as a toy you can play with. Fly as slow as you can against the wind, extend full flaps and see if you can fly it backwards. Make sure your go to recovery from any situation includes pointing the nose in the wind as heavy wind from the side might make recovery near impossible. Maybe check out my video of the Grand Tundra, there’s a lot of footage in very windy weather. At that point you don’t see me hover or do lots of aerobatics, I just play with the wind, if you take a real close look you’ll see I’m working the rudder the entire time as well, actually high wind conditions are perfect for training that! Good luck!!! (Oh, stick a camera on your hat and show us the footage!)

@@TomDeWeerdt Hi Tom, First, thanks for getting back to me so promptly. I've found out about cross winds already - we've had them often here recently and I've got the hang of feeding in rudder on the take-off run to prevent weather vaning. I shall re-watch your Grand Tundra footage and watch more closely for the rudder action. I'm sure you're right about my mental approach: I've been quite defensive until now. I'll play with the wind and let you know how I get on. Many thanks J:o)

Tom: I did not know until just now that Holland required license/insurance for RC flying, I'm in USA (Seattle, Washington) and while it's available through Academy of Model Aeronautics, it's not required in my country, though maybe it should be. I don't have a specific question, I'm a self taught pilot, medicre at best. I was very keen to start flying as a young teen but was never able to afford a plane. I'm 45 now. Last year, I bought a Hobbyzone sport cub S, with AS3X and SAFE, initially thinking I was a natural, not realizing how much flying SAFE was doing for me, progressed to a UMX Turbo Timber, also with SAFE & thought I was the shit, could not understand how people can think flying is so hard, until I got another model with no stabilization at all, the RageRC vintage stick, and was unavailable to keep it in the air for more than a few seconds. Still laboring under my delusions, thought the plane, not me was defective! Finally I flew my other models with SAFE turned off & got the same result. I've since broke my SAFE habit like a dangerous narcotic addiction, and can keep most things in the air & land them in one piece, but had to swallow the bitter pill that I'm not much of a pilot. I'm slowly improving much to the determent of my aircraft, currently I'm flying the Conscendo Evolution, and already have ordered a 2nd fuselage, had a UMX radian that burned up after I reversed the battery, replaced with an XK A800, built a FliteTest Stick (that I can't seem to fly) and my 2nd turbo timber and vintage stick. I just hope eventually to not be where planes go to die

While SAFE & other gyro based stabilization has its place, I want to be in control, that's sort of the point, no? technology currently exists for autopilot, self-landing, self take-off, the plane can fly itself, you can just go home and watch TV, and while SAFE and it's cohorts will get the new pilots in the air sooner, they ultimately are bad habits that must corrected, at least from my narrow, purist perspective.

@@josepharthurl2191 there’s a lot of angles I guess. The technology gets people in the air and enables you to learn some basics which is a good thing, the trick is letting go of the training wheels in time I guess... As for yourself, don’t beat yourself up, remember the 10.000 hr rule. I would suggest sticking with one type of plane for a while, it’s just easier to learn and improve when you limit the variables...

@@TomDeWeerdt thank you Tom! I am grateful for the rapid reply and hope to see more videos in the "rc pilot coach" realm, you've an easy to understand, compelling way of explaining even complex topics such as your stall video, I'm very grateful for your series and hope to see more instructional material from you, you have a talent for teaching!

Hi Tom, i'm struggling to enter a flat spin cleanly. When i'm in a prop hang i induce a stall then pull full up elevate & full rudder with aileron to keep the plane level & the plane doe's a cork screw before the plane level's out in a spin. Any help appreciated.
@TomDeWeerdt6 жыл бұрын
Aussie Digger got it! Good subject! For now start from horizontal flight, close throttle and let the speed bleed out (use elevator to keep it in level flight), then initiate the spin upon stalling. For most planes it’s full up full rudder, sometimes it looks cleaner when you use some aileron into the spin to initiate as well, and once the rotation is steady start moving to opposite aileron to flatten the wings out... Hoping to get good weather next weekend to get some video!

Hey Tom. Since I bought a tundra I've seen loads of comments about it tip stalling at low speed. Is there anything you do to reduce the possibility of this happening. With either setup or flying style. Thanks

Hoe lanceer jij zonder wind?
@TomDeWeerdt6 жыл бұрын
@900spada6 жыл бұрын
@TomDeWeerdt5 жыл бұрын
@@900spada Hey Man!
