ProStreet and Undercover’s quality definitely had to do with their troubled development. I watched a (sadly now seemingly deleted) video detailing Undercover’s production and according to it, Undercover was originally set to come out in 2007; however EA and Black Box quickly realized development would take longer than expected and, rather than simply not release a Need for Speed game that year, Undercover’s development team was split in two groups: one would continue their work on Undercover, while the other would create a “filler” game as a holdover for NFS fans, which came in the form of ProStreet. Not helping was that Skate was also still in development and while EA opted to give Undercover a less strict development cycle, much of the core Black Box staff left the company in summer 2007 and went to other studios or founded new ones (like United Front Games). The odds were basically stacked against Black Box unfortunately, with the only solace being they could focus solely on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions since the ones on other systems were outsourced to different companies. While I myself will always have nostalgia for Undercover since it was my first seventh-gen game, looking at it now I feel it could’ve been so much more. (Also, this is an aside but ProStreet and Undercover were also the first NFS games to have micro-transactions; on the 360 and PS3 versions if you don’t have enough money to buy a car or part the games will ask you if you’d like to buy it using real money even if you haven’t unlocked it, which GameSpot and GameTrailers called “unfair” and “questionable” in their respective reviews of ProStreet and Undercover. Yeah, unfortunately EA’s been doing this kinda thing for much longer than you’d think).

ProStreet is far better than Undercover tho, in every way. They fucked up with Undercover completely and no Undercover wasnt meant for 2007 at all. It's development started in early 2007 alongside ProStreet. Information floating around its development time are damage control lies spread especially after retarded outcry at ProStreet which it did not deserve, they wanted to backtrack to illegal street racing and say that they will make it good, but they didnt, Undercover is terrible gameplay wise and carries nothing over except for partially car sounds from ProStreet, which is does far worse aswell together with car behaviour, camera work and handling.
@Uz7Racer5 жыл бұрын
@@Kacpa2 I Already think, that Carbon was not a good title. it was funny and anoying to drive in reverse and try 180 spin. I FFFFing fliped miy challnger every FFFFickng time. And ProStreet, i still think it is a decent titel, but it was also a title, where i realy realised, how much is it rushed. Glitchy graphics on the Bodykit and some stuff not executet well. Also anying was the speedlimit wich is set on 406 KM/H (Dont forget this game includet the Veyrone wich has, oh suprisingly, a topspeed of 406 KM/H) and it was totaly missbalanced espacily when its going to the speed challange. But here was it most important to tune your car right and take some cool down moments in the race. i used a softer set up with many downforce to eliminate the humping on the track to keep the car under control. In speed challange to win the race, you have not to get the car fast as posible, insteat you need to keep the car controlable as possible. But there is so many suprising stuff too going on, cars like the Toyota Supra or Dodge Challanger where at the beginning low tear cars, but the have many potential to make them to top tear cars. Toyota Supra is great for nearly everything. When you start to boost the car up, they would reach over 1000hp. and thats the same for the dodge. But i liked very much to drift a e93 M3. I think ProStreet was a kind of a missed opertunety to spawn a great spin off serie. I mean, the shift series was not bad. But it had could make it more like Gran Turismo and more realistic.

Was really looking forward to this review. I know I'm in the minority on this, but this is my absolute favorite NFS. I love the track day/car festival approach to racing and the style this game has. Definitely before its time. I'd even go as far as to say that Pro Street is a better representation of car culture today than it was back in 2007. The development documentary "Birth of Need for Speed Pro Street" really shows that as well. The car selection is great - really has something for everyone. The damage model is great. The story of this game is pretty subtle. I love that you get most of the information from the announcers - both about yourself and other drivers. I agree with you that the "bosses" of each category are pretty weak. Ryo was probably the hardest, but take a look at something like the Speed King - that's just laughable. I would also agree that the livery system is super clunky, especially taking into account the great amount of vinyls on offer. I'd disagree with the handling - I think it's good. It really comes down to which car you are using and its setup. With the right setup you could get most cars handling the way you'd need. You can also really feel the weight of each car. I guess it's important to note I've only played on PC, so these and other problems you've mentioned are different or not present on PC. I love Pro Street. Its ideas were ahead of its time. The greatest bit of damage the game took was because it came right after MW and Carbon. The contrast made critics and many players dislike it. Also - longer development would probably greatly benefited it, but this is EA we're talking about. I'm still happy with what we got and I'm glad to see others in comments love it as well. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more reviews - especially Midnight Club 3 and NFS: The Run. Cheers!

I have some huge gripes with this video. Although you got a lot right (easy AI [Ryo and co especially], uneven difficulty, etc) I literally never had a single glitch/crash with ProStreet on Xbox 360. I also think you have never driven a car in real life before, well at least fast because you said you can’t turn a car while braking which is 100% realistic. If your breaking hard through a corner (which you shouldn’t be doing anyway) then you won’t be able to turn properly. Drift events were very finicky but once you crack the code it got pretty easy. Decent review otherwise.

MICOLE WHYTE #Oneplus6T#LG,G6 Sheep usually listen and follow their owners, if you are trying to make us out like sheep by saying, ‘but he said this so your wrong’ that makes people like you sheep. The reason we like the game is like what the review I watched of the RX7; its an unreliable nightmare, it has limited space, lacked torque, noisy, gas-gussling, etc but the reason why people like the car is because of those flaws as it gives the car character. That is no different here. Most Wanted had a shit tier handling system and the cops were only difficult if you made them difficult. Most of the soundtrack was not even listened to and the cutscenes were jarring at the least but why do you like it? You like MW because of the memories it gave and the character it had. We are no different. You can use this logic for most things in life so think about using this logic in different situations.

@@pp3k3jamail While some points are perfectly valid points that I do agree with (as an avid fan of ProStreet, it's definitely in my top 3 NFS games, behind U2 and tied with MW; yes, I consider U2 better than MW, and I consider ProStreet comparable to MW, sue me), most are either just comparisons to what people expected coming into ProStreet from MW or Carbon (understandable, but not really valid, especially in retrospect), very netpicky, coming from ignorance, or otherwise are flat out wrong. - Ryo's lack of depth and a lack of actual story is kinda of a valid point, but as OP pointed out, NFS games generally don't have strong stories anyways, so this can be excused. - As far as the game being set in organised, legal events, the OP basically said it themselves, it wasn't an objectively bad move, it was just different. People expected open streets to explore, a wanted/cop system, etc, but they didn't get that. Naturally they'd be upset, but, again, not an objectively bad move, just different. - Flashy and excessive advertisements in-game is a very superficial and honestly nitpicky point, but to humour the point, I'd argue it plays into the over-the-top nature of ProStreet. I mean, honestly look at what ProStreet is thematically, and how the world is presented. Most of it *is* very over-the-top, flashy, and excessive. Ads, screens and billboards everywhere just plays into that over-the-top-ness, further creating the atmosphere. - The "map" is pretty annoying to navigate initially, but once you get used to it, it isn't that hard. Beyond navigation, I honestly think it's a rather unique take on a "progress map" of sorts, and, again, plays into that over-the-top-ness, further creating the atmosphere. - Sector shootout is not nearly as hard or convoluted as the OP makes it out to be. It is based off of how fast you travel from A to B, but in all of my time playing, I've never had to fight an AI opponent the whole race to keep a sector broken, unless I either keep messing up on my way to that sector, or the AI is doing some super jank shit, which I've never seen it do. For the most part, once you get into the second lap, you're good. - Group B cars starting behind group A cars is a point I can agree with. - Having to do the burnout minigame before each stage is kinda whatever, it'd be nice not to do, but it really isn't an issue. - Leading up to the 4 race type kings (ie drag, drift, grip, speed), there is a bit of variance in the race types, at least for drag. The first drag event only contains 1/4 mile drag runs, and maybe a 1/2 mile drag run or two, the second event adds a wheelie comp or two, and the third adds multiple of both 1/2 mile and wheelie comps. All 3 types do play fairly differently (1/4 mile is about acceleration, 1/2 mile about top speed, wheelie is about trading control for being able to pull long wheelies). - The kings are extremely easy, I'll give the OP that. - That's why Ryo is called the *showdown* king, he's the king of showdowns, not the king of a particular race type. To be able to race against him, just have to complete all 3 showdowns. - You can change what race type a car is for, even if it's a car you won at an event, or from one of the kings. It literally says it in the bottom right in the footage. The downside is that you lose all blueprints, but you do keep the parts unlocked, so you can take a speed car you won from an event, change it to drag, and use the same parts it had when it was for speed. - Can agree with the vinyl/decal tools needing work. - AutoSculpt does impact performance, but not as much as the actual performance tuning, in my experience. I do feel a difference in the traction of a car with high downforce versus low, same with how easy it is to pull a wheelie. - Performance tuning being so impactful is something I liked about ProStreet, because it gave so much more depth to the way you built your cars. Maybe steps could have been taken to make tuning a bit easier to use as a newer player, but it being so impactful is good, IMO. - As far as every part being necessary is concerned, OP is thinking too much like an arcade racer. Think about it logically. You've sunk a hundred grand in a car, upgrading the engine, dumping a new drivetrain in there, bolting on a turbo or supercharger, and fitting a powerful nitrous system, but spent nothing on the tires or suspension. With stock tires, how is the power meant to get to the ground, without slipping? With a stock suspension, how are you meant to keep the car going straight when it's got so much power? By not upgrading the tires, OP limited how much power could get to the road, as the rest would be wasted through the tires slipping. Think about it using real world logic, instead of arcade logic. - While you can make a new blueprint on an event/king's car, I do agree that it would have been a good idea to allow us to change the existing blueprint, as far as performance is concerned. There *is* a workaround, however, in that if the car has preinstalled performance parts that are at the tier you'd like (stage 3 or 4, for instance), you *can* enter practice mode during an event, and performance tune the car that way. As OP already said, performance does come the most from correct tuning (especially if the preinstalled parts are already good), so you can tune the car this way while keeping the same visuals. - As far as players figuring it all out without instructions, I mean, I did. When I first heard about this game, I asked a kid in my class whether he had it and, if so, did it have any cops. He said yes, and I believed him, that's how little research I had done on the game, and I didn't do any even when I got it. I figured it out fine as I went along, so it shouldn't be that hard for anybody else. - You're given so many insurance markers during events, you don't even need to pay actual cash to repair your cars. - The faster you're going, the more damage you'll take. Simple as that. Nothing to do with how expensive the car is. - Repairing when restarting is optional, I don't repair unless I've taken heavy damage or totaled the car, or won and am leaving the event. - People legit have cars that drift around corners, when fully spec'd for grip, because they have so much power, and they can drive fine without crashing too often. Hell, I can drive fine without crashing too often, driving a Skyline R34, fully spec'd for speed, at 370km/h (91% of the speed cap), on the Nevada track (easiest to crash on, IMO). The most damage I'll take is some light damage, with the occasional total or two, if I royally screw up. - If you're distracted by signs that are blurred out from the intense motion blur, that sounds more like a problem with you, than the game itself. I can concentrate on the road just fine. - The input delay is a bit jarring when first playing, but once you get used to it, it's mostly fine. Being unable to turn while braking is a non-issue, brake coming into the corner, not through the corner. Nitrous really depends on how you've tuned it, it can either be a lifesaver if you've crashing and need to get back into the race, or it can be a speed boost if you need a burst of speed. - Drifting can be annoying at times, but once you get in the groove, again, it's mostly fine. Tuning the car to suit your driving style helps a ton. - Both drift races during that Ryo event were a pain in the ass for me, but not because of the handling, rather because of the narrow streets combined with the wide turns. Barely enough room to properly drift, not enough room to fishtail to start a drift or get some points up. - AI can be pretty shitty. Haven't really had any "accidental aggression" like what the OP describes, where the AI turns into missiles unintentionally, more had the AI just being dumb shits. - I've played this on the PS2, PS3 and PC, and can't remember the bugs shown in the video, at all. Currently playing it on PC, haven't had those bugs. - The PS3, 360 and PC versions of the game might not add much gameplay-wise (biggest addition I can think of is the wind tunnel, which is just a visualisation of the AutoSculpt drag/downforce system that all versions have, and the additional cars on the track), but visually, they do add some decent upgrades. Damage was hugely upgraded (most I can recall from the PS2 version were bumpers, doors, hood, trunk just falling off, rather than dangling off), lighting was upgraded, smoke effects were upgraded, car models & textures were upgraded, and extra world decorations were also added. - Don't remember that crash happening to me on my PS3 playthrough. As I said, IMO, this game isn't objectively bad, it's just different. When you look at it for what it is, it's a pretty damn good NFS entry that is just severely ahead of its time. ProStreet's setting of legal racing with street racing influences has a fantastic atmosphere, is a great match for NFS thematically, and has a ton of potential. IMO, it's hugely underrated, and a sequel with better tech, better handling, more cars, overhauled tuning, etc, would easily be the best NFS entry as of late.

The reason Shift failed is because they try to market it as a full-on racing sim, like Assetto Corsa and rFactor. The devs said that it was going to be a "Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport killer". They failed because the physics engine was wonky in terms of its gravity and suspension model. However, if you would like to play the successors of the Shift series, then you should play Project CARS. Project CARS 1 and 2 use the same physics and engine as the Shift series, but tweaked to further resemble real life. They'te not die-hard sims like rFactor 2, but when they get it right, they get it so right.

11:22 Four years late, I know but; this is a bit of misnomer. You can swap cars to any of the four disciplines(assuming they are eligible for drift, cars must be RWD to be used in that discipline), there is a little prompt in the bottom right corner when the vehicle is selected in the garage. You get to retain all your Stage performance parts purchases, bodykits, wheels etc. however the pre-set and custom blueprints that you created for the previous discipline will be lost. This will also include losing your paint, decal and vinyl selections; which does sort of discourage any *real* use of those features. Vehicles swapped from one discipline to another have no downsides or changes to if you had bought them and immediately set them up for that discipline so, there is quite a bit of fiddling and testing and tuning you can do with this to build the perfect car for your driving style in each discipline.

I have to disagree with couple things. 1. You said that starting order in multi class race is wrong because there is high risk of damaging your car while overtaking slower class cars. But when you think about it, it's not so wrong. In real life multi class racing (mostly endurance) overtaking cars of different class is one of the characteristic points in endurance racing. You can gain or lose a lot of time and managing traffic on track is very important skill. Black Box tried to emulate that but they couldn't make an hour long endurance race. So to make it work they decided to reverse starting grid of multi class races. Thanks to that you have a challenge of traffic on track without long races. 2. In the video you mentioned that it is wrong to pay for damage after every restart of race and that you pay more for damage in more expensive cars. Well... deal with it. If you crashed your car then its understandable that you have to pay for what you did. If you want to have cool expensive cars then be prepared that for better performance you may have to pay more. And all that can be solved by... not crashing. I know that shit happens sometimes. But thanks to this mechanics you actually have to pay attention to your driving. 3. Alright, I agree that AI in NFS PS is pretty shit. But you said that sometimes they crash you out and YOU have to pay for your damage. Well, thats how it works in real racing. Sometimes drivers crash because of other drivers. But that doesnt mean that guy who caused a collision pays for damage for both cars (i mean in racing). 4. Breaking and turning at the same time is not a good idea especially in a game that tries to be realistic.
@IDyn4m1CI5 жыл бұрын
Yeah man, I'm baffled that he didn't got the point of multiclass racing, its obviously trying to emulate the traffic aspect of endurance racing but in a short race. Also complaining about paying for damage everytime you restart is dumb, just learn to drive properly and don't crash your car everywhere. If this game was more strict you shouldn't even be able to restart the race if you totaled your car, or even restart period, which would be far more realistic, its a track day and you don't get a second chance to race if your car isn't properly working

"Whatever that is" at 20:20 into the video, is a view from below the track. This happens when a car goes "out of bounds" , and the "out of bounds" physics, has essentially been the same since Porsche Unleashed, where there is a "hole" in one of the walls about mid way on Zone Industrielle. "Out of bounds" play is more common on the open map games, Most Wanted, Carbon, World, and perhaps Underground 2.

You can change the category of your car on the garage by pressing square (X on Xbox). You will lose your blueprints though (including the unique liveries of prize cars), but not purchased parts. And the thing about it being available on many platforms: It's why I like it. I played it quite a bit on PS2, not much like it there: serious racing, car customization, mechanical damage (with limited visual damage, similar to it's predecessors). I also played it on the 360 and PC and really liked the improved graphics and more cars on track (PS2 had only 4, like Carbon on PS2 aswell). And as I grew to like serious, realistic racing games over very arcade-ish ones (which I still like though), I really like some stuff you didn't, like cars not turning under braking, and paying realistic amounts of money to fix your car is a thing I never saw anywhere else, which I find interesting. The secret to control your car on drift events is that you have to hold the throttle at least a bit, if you release it, the wheels stop spinning and lose grip completely, which won't help to straighten the car. It's been a while since I last played so I don't remember about the cornering, but if it's like other realistic games, you have to turn less to turn more, as if the wheels have to much angle they will lose grip. If you turn less, they regain grip and start turning more.

Prostreet is one of the underrated NFS games and it is actually pretty good Sure it is not like street racing but the career, story, cars, and the customization was what made this a great game Really want to play Prostreet again

Toxic Potato maybe the graphics were okay but it did age well and it is still a fun game to play Underground, Most Wanted (2005), Carbon, and the original Need for Speed series would be the best of NFS
@Марсель-ж5ч5 жыл бұрын
@Toxic Potato The steering is pretty bad, like who thought, that making cars have tank slapping is good. The drift is somewhat railroaded. Don't know about other issues

I have a question: does the whole "game crashes at 50% completion after completing a raceday on PS3 thanks to the update" thing affect *all* of us, or does it just affect poor old ColourShed? I am *very* nervous.

11:27 But that's wrong, the option to change care mode is even listed right under your cash (Square). Granted you'll lose vinyl and paint, and have to reapply everything (and sometimes buy different upgrade parts you already bought). But there's basically no reason unless you get a non-king reward cars (cause the king cars are basically just to look at) that you want to use in a different discipline to save money on getting a new car. (Speaking of, you'll almost never be able to buy a Pagani till you basically beat the game and saved all you can. Best thing to do if you get a free car token is to get the Pagani, sell it for $300,000 or so and get and upgrade what you actually want) And at 15:44 it literally starts on "Don't Repair" as the choice. As a tip I pay for any damage under $5000 (As that's what the tokens cost to buy, yes you can buy insurance basically. Surprised they didn't tie the Progressive sponsorship into that). And you can get away with driving with light damage, I never noticed anything apart from visual at that level. Hell if you damage your car, reset without repairing and then do a clean race it will give you the no damage bonus which is actually the only thing light damage penalizes (even then you still get some points if it's not too bad). 16:59 Oh boy. Well yes the early game can be a bit of understeer fest, late game it should feel like a cocaine powered Cheetah. The secret is the brakes, turn the hand brake WAY UP and do your best Keiichi Tsuchiya impression. And don't brake in the corners unless you direly need to, get it all done before you reach the corner like in real life. Also make sure you have it on king difficulty and turn off all the aids (except in Speed events, trust me). Prostreet is my favorite NFS (I honestly don't like the police stuff in MW, was more then happy it was downplayed in Carbon), and while it's janky, if you embrace the jank it's as fun as any other NFS game. And sure some more dev time would have done wonders, this is ultimately an EA game so all this done in a year is astounding to me. I have an LP of it

I spent lots of time with this game, replaying every race days, I didn't want to finish the Ryo race because it'll make the game lifeless to me after the game is completed. I enjoyed the customization (albeit not as super detailed as 2015 or Heat) and they really nailed the engine sounds for almost every car (it felt great on headphones cranked up), whwnever I attend race days, I would leave the game idle until the menu disappears and just imagine being in an actual race day with your creation.. But one thing I've always noticed; in some certain Grid Class races, how is it sometimes I get to start in front of the group, whereas most of the time we're supposed to start behind the pack?

I love ot because I’m a car guy and want to know the specs of the cars like 0-60mph and the exact hp number instead of a bar showing the top speed and acceleration. The customization and tuning was very well done too. The GTR and NSX are the best grip cars I’ve personally tried, but there are a lot of legendary cars in this game I’d like to try them all.

Online comp was awesome when they had a server up. I played with Japanese and Germans and Brazil too. Was solid in the top 10 and it was about the crazy combination of tunes that were found and shared. I never heard speak of the tune since....almost hack like faster.

This might be my favourite nfs. I love how they grounded the atmosphere to be something you'd expect to see in real life car show/track day. prostreet handled the difficulty so cleverly by making real life car guy decicion making a gameplay feature; sure, lamborghini is waaaay faster, but you are not going to be able to afford even to dent a bumper in it without going bankrupt, so better stick to tuned up honda civic that is able to just and just keep up. playing most wanted and prostreet back to back, after most wanted's obnoxious rubber banding and cops that plain cheat, it feels really cathartic. And it's soundtrack is the one that i still regularly listen not just for nostalgic reasons. also, dissappointlingly easy boss fights are a series staple in need for speed series, you cannot really count them as negative ;)

I fuckin love this channel, the depths that you cover these games is incredible (and any surrounding controversy) Is there any chance that you could leave the quotes on screen for longer (like, a lot longer) I'm a fast reader, but some of these quotes are whole paragraphs or more and only onscreen for mere seconds. That is literally the only constructive criticism I can give you. So glad to have discovered your incredible channel!!!

I came back to this game after getting it with a PS2 I purchased. I remembered having issues driving with a controller. This time around I had a steering wheel controller set up, and let's just say that made the difference between unplayable and full enjoyment.
