I mean to be fair, that's a lot of racing games. Even modern ones. You usually either stare at the back bumper of your car, or you're using a cockpit view where you MIGHT see the hood. I mean, I just started playing it yesterday. It's over half way into 2021. I still enjoy it. I hate the minigames and drag racing to be honest, but the actual racing, drift challenges, and vehicle customization is enough fun that I actually put up with the few things I dislike, and am having fun. It also looks a lot better than you'd think based on this video. The game, being played on a small GBA or DS screen, looks a LOT better than it being played on a big KZbin video or emulator. Especially if it's on a GBA (as opposed to the DS) because the GBA has some motion smudging and stuff that helps blend some stuff together.

I'll be honest, these games are the kind of games that actually look better on an actual GBA. The smaller screen helps, but the GBA also has some like, motion smudging and stuff that helps blend things together. Playing on a bigger screen with crystal clear graphics.....kinda makes it look worse.

The way this channel works is kinda odd. Whenever I see its thumbnails I click on them like I'm about to open a tab with only an image file (and then behold the beautiful art), ignoring the fact that I'm in KZbin (a video-only plataform). After the click, what I find is a video of the man minimme himself with graceful minimme-quality content in it; thing that, maybe is not the image that I was sold for, yet it is something that equals its passion. Missed opportunity for 3DO releases on the GBA
@Thelango996 жыл бұрын
Yeah both the GBA and 3DO has CPU's based on the ARM architecture.
@rexthesheep6 жыл бұрын
The similarities are probably more to do with the fact that GBA has no dedicated 3D hardware, meaning that you had to program the 3D engine to run in software entirely on the CPU, just like PC games before hardware acceleration became mainstream, which limits how much precision and detail you can get in the rendering, especially if you want a playable frame rate. I don't know much about how the 3DO works, but given other systems from the time lacking dedicated 3D hardware like the Sega 32X, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same case there too. It really puts into perspective just how revolutionary the PlayStation was in the console space, even if it seems so archaic now.
@Thelango996 жыл бұрын
@ sheepytina even the PS1 suffered from extreme affine texture warping and lacking a z-buffer which means it does not fully support perspective correction.

I think my biggest issue with both GBA Underground games, is that they both include open side roads on the tracks. Open side roads that you CAN'T drive on. Meaning, I've lose many a race due to taking a wrong turn into an invisible wall because I thought I was meant to go down this super obvious open road, when I was actually meant to drive past it and take the NEXT corner. It's actually more of an issue in the first Underground, but Underground 2 does it a bit too. It's a little easier to deal with once you play for a bit and know what to look for as well as when you start memorizing the tracks a bit. But it's still obnoxious. I think the entire game would have done better if they just simplified the graphics. Take out the unnecessary side roads, make the wall and ground textures a little simpler and more cartoony instead of trying to do realism on a GBA. It would have cleared up the confusion, as well as making the entire thing look less like a pixel smudge. I definitely agree, that if they made these games with the V-Rally engine, they'd be SO GOOD. Like, I already like them, but maaaan, they'd probably be my favorite GBA games if they looked as good as V-Rally.

Yes, and people may question me, but I'm currently using either the real deal (aka: the no-backlight, REAL MAN'S GBA) or VisualBoy Advance. NFSU1: The graphics are using some sort of dithering technique, feeling like it's been interlaced. Kinda like the intro for Sonic 3D Blast to an extent. NFSPU: Bouncing off walls, huh? NFSU2: One step forward, 3 steps back. NFSMW: 7:08 Kinda looks like my car when playing this. NFSCOTC: Is that a fucking eraser or a Mustang?

I remember that you can "adjust" the amount of your turning by pressing UP + LEFT / RIGHT for slight turn, LEFT / RIGHT for moderate turn and DOWN + LEFT / RIGHT for extreme turn. Or was that only implemented on the DS version?
