From the weird story missions, to waking up early and completing jobs to earn cash everyday, to choosing different houses and decorating them and the 50+ mario party like mini games. FYI: in Bustin Out (all of these games, actually) there wasn’t a mechanism to speed time up, but you could just sleep, during which time will speed by quickly. Also in URBZ, you can unlock secret hideouts around town (like that trash can, or the broken down bus) by having a level 100 relationship with certain characters. Giuseppi tells you about the bus, and Phoebe tells you about the trash can, for example. I think there are four or five different ones

Aww man, these games are what got me into the Sims. Despite the grindier aspects (Casually getting the lifeguard to hate you to progress the story sticks out in my mind), I can still go back and play them with a smile on my face. Finding Heidi Shadows without looking up her location was a big highlight as a kid (Pro Tip: Heidi is a character who sells you cheat codes. She appears on Mondays from 11:00PM to 12:00AM. Buy all of her items from her before it hits 12, then wait until your clock hits 12 exactly to buy all her stock again before she leaves. Since she's technically a shopkeeper, the new day rollaround restocks her cheats, allowing you to buy them twice.) I went out and bought a GameCube version of Bustin' Out to unlock everything. You can even import your Sims character from the GC version, level up their stats at the library and max them out on the GBA, then port them back into your GC save as a Sim God. And if anyone else is ever interested in playing Bustin' Out on the GBA, another tip: Always keep an item in your inventory! When you speak with characters, there are certain phrases that always increase their friendship, but since the phrases are random there's a high chance you won't see them. Instead of backing out of the conversation and talking to them again, you can select "I've got something for you!" and enter your inventory. Back out of that, and the phrases are randomized again. Alright, enough rambling. This was a great vid as always minimme! P.S. Griptonite Games also made the incredible Diablo-esque Lord of the Rings GBA games. You should definitely check them out, particularly the Return of the King!
@rodryguezzz5 жыл бұрын
Also, you can multiply items on the GBA version of Bustin Out by trying to place an item in your house (when the yellow icon with the arrow shows up) and letting your character pass out. It somehow bugs the item and it will show up on your house and your inventory as well. If you can't grab it once you get back to your house, leave the house and come back. Doing this with expensive items removes the need for grinding money.

I have to be honest, that ring menu in Sims 2 Pets has put me off any game with a ring menu ever since. By far, my favorite of these games is Urbz. It’s not a game I ever truly want to ‘complete’, though I have done a few times. It’s a world I like living in for an hour or so at a time, and if I want to accomplish something, either a goal from the game itself or one I decided on, I can do it and save, then go on with my life, satisfied. I will admit though that I like Bustin’ Out because in spite of everything, I suck at small talk. Playing that game gives me ideas about what to say and how to say it, and using those ideas carried me a good distance in the real world.

About your view that the writers seemed to always be having fun though: I really think you should check out the cut content for Sims 2 gba, there was a cut mission parodying Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" but with penguins, an episode where you would play as Dusty Hogg with the entire joke being that the show was jumping the shark (which was an event Dusty would literally perform) and in the data there is even an episode called "We Never Finished This Episode", with the description being "The lost episode." The DS Urbz had a minigame where you'd extract creature DNA from amber and got to keep things like dragons and unicorns as pets. And the sims 2 (or 3? I legit can't remember) on DS was like...heavily themed around abduction. Also had rad gambling minigames.
@innoclarke74355 жыл бұрын
It's worth making a video on the DS version, as well. It has most of the characters from the GBA version, which means it has a number of characters from the earlier games, like Dusty and Giuseppe. And, luckily for you, the format has changed, as it's now no longer isometric, and the goal of the game is sort of just to improve a hotel that you take control of at the beginning. It continues to carry the silly writing and stories, and it's cozy to play, with pretty minimal focus on your characters needs, letting you just go around doing what you want, whether that be something like using a metal detector to find treasure, playing several different little arcade games, or just blowing your money on scratch tickets. There's also a number of other goofy surprises that I won't spoil for you. I haven't played the PSP game, but I've heard its story is kinda weird too. I don't have any idea if there's any returning characters or anything like that, but it might be worth looking into.

You should check out some of the "Nights" series of mobile games for java, it was developed by gameloft and they're pretty well made, they're very similar to The Sims but ona way smaller scale, while a bit repetitive every one of the has a unique setting ranging form Las Vegas to Paris. It's a handful of games and they're sort of short but they were the ultimate time killers back in the age of the Sony Ericsson and Nokia java games. There's two games that belong to the Nights series that are difficult to play because of some limitations like the bad frame rate on emulators with "Crazy Campus" and the foreign language of "Tokio Nights". Either way, they're pretty neat and the pixelart is very pleasing in some iterations, the best and largest one is Miami Nights 2, try playing it with a java emulator for android or pc, tho it is the wisest if you play them in the highest resolution available for some of them (240x320) to better appreciate the art. The games are the following: -Crazy Campus -Miami Nights -Miami Nights 2 -New York Nights 1 and 2 (the second one is a remake of the first for 240x320 res mobile devices) -My Life in New York (the most confusing one of them all) -Paris Nights -Las Vegas Nights -Tokio Nights (It's all in japanese) These are all very easy to find and download as they were wildly popular in the noughties.

@@maxgrant3714 They're very much real and awesome, I just replayed Miami Nights 2 recently, and I came across a game breaking glitch after having my character hookup with as many npcs as I could find. Turns out leveling the relation with a reporter will make the game freeze in the stadium section because she's supposed to interact with you but the "in love" animations will prevent this from happening, so beware

Thanks for covering these. The first 2 games are surprisingly good! Interesting quests, many fun characters and a fairly “open world” for you to explore. A lot of personality even given the limits of the GBA. I often wish there would be a modern reimagining of these, but I don’t think it would ever happen. The 3rd game is much worse with a smaller game world and bizzare story involving aliens and reality TV that dumps the realistic story of the first 2.

The GBA and DS sims games have a very special place in my heart. I remember coming home from elementary school and busting out (heh) my game boy to play these. I beat Busting Out and Urbz but I never beat 2 unfortunately. Who knows maybe I’ll dust off my game boy and try it out again now that I’m watching this lol.

Let’s see: The main thread of these games is that the main character is an alien living on a farm with a middle aged man. Along the way he meets a bigshot corporate guy who has a bald Grandson with Luthor in his name. Can someone say Elseworld Superman?

I love both bustin' out and the urbz, lol. Weirdly enough more than the everyday sims game. The fast paced-ness felt good. The story is great, the character though there's a LOT of them, better than nothing, right? Over time i love how you win each and everyone of them. The mini game though it gets repetitive and easier overtime is actually a great and unique way to get money. I wish the sims series would make the 'work' more tangible like this. I just see that this is such a good idea for the sims world, i wish this would get a remake and i need more game likw this. Of course you can't do the things you did in the usual sims here, it's not comparable. I just think this is such a great idea that having small side game like this wouldn't hurt, yes?

this just came up in my recommendations and WOW! what a throwback! i’m 21 and i loved these games (not the sims pets never picked it up, looks lame lol) but i remember playing these games for hours and hours. i know this video is four months old and you won’t see this but i guess i’ll write out a long comment, hopefully it bumps the videos so more people see it :) i played the sims bustin out for the gameboy when i was younger and while i didn’t understand most of the game and i didn’t get far in the game, i really loved it! my dad loved that game so maybe that’s why i loved it too. now... the sims urbz. holy smokey boy. THATS MY GAME!! i remember being in school and dreaming about going home and playing the game. i see you mentioned the grinding, but that’s actually the best part to be honest. i loved just playing mini games, making money, shopping, finding new homes, and then doing my game challenges. it is still my favorite sims game for any handheld system

Unironically "The Sims 2" in PSP offers an interesting conclusion of sorts to a theoretical shared handheld universe. (Spoiler warnings if you havent played the sims 2 for PSP [and I think DS]) Towards the end of the PSP games its revealed that one of the sims realised that it's all just a game. Perchance Mr. Bigbucks has realised this as well? It would explain his recurrence and ability to organize the TV Show. Seemingly at random, and its proven in the final moments of Sims 2 PSP that the sims can construct tools to essentially become players. (Amazingly shown through a boss fight I was too dumb to understand.) Bigbucks created the time machine first. A seeming impossibility, yet it changed the game's world. I dont know, I put like five minutes of thought into this. Seems like an interesting rabbit hole though.

im playing urbz on the delta emulator currently and i must say, nostalgia aside, this game is just as great as i remembered it being. the grind isnt a problem at all for me, in fact it truly doesnt even feel like a grind really cuz the mini games are so fun. your BEST FRIEND for money gain in this game is the hoopz mini game. i be getting like 2k every match then id just to sleep and a few irl seconds later BOOM another 2k. if you dont wanna do that you could legit just paint or do woodwork and sell those. like there is surprisingly so much to this lil gba game its truly incredible. i recommend anyone who can get their hands on the game, to play it. especially if you like the art style like myself. the game to me looks so cozy and fun. like a lil retro and "street" (hence the name urbz lol) animal crossing - 9/10 ps: great vid man

These games were just the best! It’s one big story btw. Bigbucks actually mentions in the sims 2 gba that there used to be some drama between your character and him. The sims 2 ds and sims 2 psp also likely tie into this ‘sims handheld saga’ story. Basically your character ends up as a superhero. And in the psp version they conclude that an evil mind controlling entity is causing all the mayhem: the plumbob (it’s you. The player. And they actually put THAT in the story xD)
