The holy ghost has convicted me multiple times for the same sin in a span of six years. It was strong, my conviction stopped only after I stopped my very, very sinful way. I'm humbled and very grateful that our heavenly father didn't give up on me. I can't explain how humbled and eternally grateful I am that the holy spirit didn't stop convicting me. Wow. Jesus is everything. HE really is. I'm ashamed how I lived and not just these last six years, honestly looking back it was more like the last 32 years. I lied to myself that believing and accepting Jesus was enough. Yet I was walking in darkness and was a liar among many other things. Wow. HE never gave up on me. In Jesus mighty name amen and amen

It’s not about feelings as they come and go but it is about the realization I am a sinner & need a Savior. Why would I put my faith in a savior if I don’t sin? The Holy Spirit makes us realize we need salvation. W/out that realization why would I need to put faith in Christ. I tell you unless the Holy Spirit works w/in the heart of a man there is no salvation. If you ask Jesus to be your savior then the Holy Spirit has convicted you of your need of salvation.

You would call me a Calvinist but I’m a Christian as the Bible calls it. I cannot find the word calvinist as a denomination. But the way this video claims is deceptive. I actualy unlike most socalled calvinist I read the institutes 3 times and a lot of the puritans but also all the works of Arminius. I live in Ontario Canada. I’m have been a potter all my life kzbin.info/www/bejne/pajdanipitCheKM but since my 16th I have studied nothing but the Bible,Theology and church history every day. When I was about 16 I was very affright to die being not saved. As the Scripture says no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. It was because I went with my dad to a funeral of an uncle. There was an open Casket When I saw my uncle in the casket my whole body started shaking. And a fear came over me. I said to myself it van be me tomorrow but even if I lived 100 yr. I have to stand before the judgment seat of Christ and I will be condemned forever. In the next week I went to a weekday church service. The sermon was: From Hebrews 9 : 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. I started to read the Bible every day, study it and go to church during the week as much as I could. I tried to be better but after a year I felt more sinful and instead of better, worst. One night I could not sleep and I felt depressed I started to cryout to the Lord and said: “Lord God I deserve Hell but I cannot for eternity be separated from You.” Then these words came in my heart: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” I saw that God The Father was well pleased with Jesus when He died at the cross and gave His Blood for many. I said Lord God If you are pleased with that scarifies at the Cross why Would I not be pleased with it. I saw that Christ was nailed to the Cross for my sins. Looking to Christ alone and not my righteousness. At that moment peace came in my heart. Peace With God that no-one can understand except only though the Holy Spirit, I felt that the Blood of Christ had washed my sins away. I was 17 at that time It took the week after to completely to comprehend what had happened. It’s all by Grace Just the Blood of Christ and nothing of me at all. If I loose all I have on earth I still have Everything. Those that were Never lost were never saved. I have 11 children from one marriage I’m now 76 The Lord has been good to me always. I have seen Gods hand in my life so often but most when I went through a deep valley. I had no income whatsoever for 2 years with 11 small children. However every day we had everything we needed. My Lord took care of all my needs everyday. It was the best time of my life. I have seen so many miracles happen before my own eyes. After 2 year we had income again. My wife said: “one thing of all we sold I miss, that is the antique clock.” The clock had a special sentimental value for us. I said: “let me see if I can buy one the same.” Yah she said: “but it will never be the same.” I went to the store but there was no Clock even not one that looked like it. So I asked the owner if he still knew me. Yes he said. So I asked if he ever get a clock the same as I sold him. To my surprise he answered: “It is at my house, My wife took it home.” I did get it back for the same money as I got for it. The Lord knew that my wife would miss it and kept it for us. IT IS ONLY BY THE HOLY SPIRIT that we can understand that God the Creator of all things Sent His Only Begotten Son for us to Die at the cross for our sins; and come to know the forgiveness of sins for all those who put their faith and trust in Him. Matthew 24: 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, IF IT WERE POSSIBLE, they SHALL DECEIVE THE VERY ELECT.

ChildofGod That's not what Pastor Tim is saying, neither does Jesus say that. He's pointing out the observable truth in that we're not to be distracted by our feelings and make a decision or a stance based on that. All born again believers KNOW when the Holy Spirit convicts them, but just because it happens at a different time for everyone, it doesn't make it any less true. The Holy Spirit will convict you of sin, that is guaranteed. But the Bible makes it clear that our faith and trust in Jesus alone is what allows us into heaven - someone could truly accept Christ and let Him be the Lord of their life and then die a few minutes later. I'm not saying that the Holy Spirit would not have convicted them at that time, but you don't have to have a feeling of conviction to be convicted, you're already convicted and sentenced until Jesus Christ steps in and saves you. Hope that was of some help. God bless you. Amen.
@ChildofGod949

For someone to truly accept Christ and let him be the Lord of their life , there must be conviction. This is how the Holy Spirit draws us to Christ. It begins with conviction. No one , can possibly , on their own decide that Jesus is the Lord.
@discipleaj
@discipleaj 6 жыл бұрын
ChildofGod Respectfully, that's called sanctification and it's a process, it would be wrong to generalise it for everyone. The Bible says that everyone is already convicted because the Holy Spirit has come but the world would not want to receive Him, the prince of this world is judged because the Holy Spirit has brought conviction of sin. Should there be conviction of sin in our own personal walk with Christ - yes, absolutely. But the timing of that is not really debatable. It would be wrong to say to someone (hypothetically speaking) "you've just accepted Christ as your Lord and you've been born again. But you didn't feel conviction in yourself? Hmm, don't think you're saved..." That's would be a bad doctrine to align with and I think it would be unbiblical. My prayer would be that a person such as this gets more intimate with Christ, Jesus knows what is right and that this person would ask for conviction of their sins - Lord, show me what in my life displeases you and bring it to light so that I may know your holiness and your glory and put what displeases you to death on the cross. Show me and convict my heart. We need to pray for people like this, ultimately our Heavenly Father knows who are His and no one, nothing can snatch His children out of His hand. It would be better to give it to God, He knows what He is doing.

I agree with what your saying disciple AJ , I think I am not stating what I am trying to convey properly. If person says I accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Repents of sin - then the work of the Holy Spirit is already in place. I will never tell someone they are not saved that is not my place. Im just saying that the Holy Spirit is what draws us to Christ.

And without the conviction of the holy spirit no one can regenerate with his power. So conviction of the holy spirit is needed for every one to be saved.

A lot of people don’t even know their house is burning so why jump. The law came first to show us we are sinful otherwise we would have no clue we needed a savior. To be saved you have to first realize you need a savior. Then you will understand what Christ did for you on the cross. It’s easy to believe and trust in what Jesus did on the cross fully once u realize we are full of sin and need to be saved.

I think a lot of people in the comments are misunderstanding what Tim is saying. He is not saying that there is NO conviction of sin, he is saying that you may not FEEL the conviction of sin. If you feel that you cannot feel, that there is only darkness in you, you are seeing your self rightly. That is conviction of sin. You are convicted of who you are, and who we truly are without Christ is a creature void of any goodness, even sorrow for sin. Nothing he is saying is unbiblical, he is simply taking note of the nuance of conversion that a lot of people don’t understand. Some of the puritans even understood what he was talking about, like Jonathon Edwards. Read his book the Suprising Work of God in Northampton. Also, Tim is not definitely not saying that there is no repentance of sin. He is NOT CONDEMNING lordship salvation. He made it clear, that like Matthew, you must leave everything and follow Christ. You must leave whatever you are clinging too, your sins. The young rich ruler refused to repent of his greed, turn from it and follow Christ. What Tim is saying is this. Repent then Believe in it’s simplest form can simply be, I am falling and can’t save myself, but Christ can save me. In order to feel that way, that hopelessness, you must abandon everything holding you back.

No one said we are saved by Holy Spirit conviction, but both the bible and experience attest to the truth that salvation is initiated by God . God draws sinners to faith in Christ (John 6:44, 63). It is through the convicting, regenerating and drawing power of the Holy Spirit that a sinner is brought to saving faith in Christ. Both faith and repentance are the fruits or evidence of God's grace. Yes, we must come to Christ to be saved (whether or not we feel like doing so) but we do so, through the enabling power of the Holy Spirit. Lydia believed the message that Paul preached freely and willingly, but before she did so, God had to do something --he had to "Open her (Lydia's) heart (Acts 16:14) in order to enable her to believe. The sinner comes to Christ freely and willingly but he/she does so through the enabling power of the Spirit, of course (Read John 6:37, 44, 63, 65). . In fact, both human responsibility and divine election are taught in the Bible, sometimes in the same verse (read John 6:37).

I have found the Holy Spirit does not convict me much of sin, but rather of righteousness. If anything He stresses that I and my sin is dead and buried in Christ. But what He does say 'ARE YOU THEREFORE LIVING FOR ME BY MY SPIRIT.' To reject the Spirit is the much worse offense. It is not those who are convicted of sin that are the sons of God, but those who follow the Spirit. Conviction of sin says start living in the kingdom of God and not in this world.

The word convict is a translation of the Greek word elencho, which means “to convince someone of the truth; to reprove; to accuse, refute, or cross-examine a witness.” The Holy Spirit acts as a prosecuting attorney who exposes evil, reproves evildoers, and convinces people that they need a Savior.

"No one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them." John 6:65 . We cannot just go and walk into someones house without permission.. it trespassing. We have to be invited in. The Spirit of God has to draw us. We cannot even love the Lord without Him giving us the ability by His Spirit constantly wooing and drawing us. John 5:15.. I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit.."for without Me you can do nothing". We cannot even have Fatih without the Lord giving it to us. Yes, we seek Gods face in prayer and His word today and throughout the day nonetheless we still are to press through but the Spirit of God gives us the continual strength and desire to do so. Also the part about Jesus and the rich man and the Lord told him to sell his worldly possession and follow Him. Jesus had not died on the cross and the Holy Spirit ( which brings conviction) did not come until after the ascension of the Lord who was lifted up in the clouds to go to heaven was seen in the company of the disciples. Jesus commanding them to remain in Jerusalem until the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Right. John 6:44 Jesus says that 'no man can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him.' John 6:65 Jesus says again 'that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.' Paul says in 1 Cor. 3:6 that he planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. He further states in the next verse that then it is not him that plants that is anything, nor him that waters, but God that giveth the increase. There are yet more and more verses I can quote here, but the bottom line is this --- God is sovereign in ALL things, and that includes our election to salvation by His grace, through faith. Being drawn to Jesus therefore is by the will of God the Father through the power of God the Holy Spirit.

nuclearsharkattack - Yes, but if one is sincerely seeking after GOD - then GOD will have mercy on whom HE will have mercy. *1st Timothy 2 : 4 - "WHO will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." Could it be that GOD is (willing something that is not going to happen?) No, of course not! The verb "to draw" when it regards people does NOT mean "force"! It means "entice", "seduce". Consider this verse (below) and read all of the New Testament repeatedly over and over, relying SOLELY on the Holy Spirit as Jesus commands in John 14:26 & 16:13. Listening to men should be avoided or it should take up 1% of your time in the Lord. "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that ***he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him***" (Hebrews 11:6)

That’s concerning. I realize that my heart has been stubborn and unrepentant towards God. I’ve heard the Gospel many times, and now I need to be reconciled to Him. My heart has been evil. I am worried of the unforgivable sin because of my heart’s attitude toward the miracles of Christ. I believe that Jesus did his miracles by the Spirit because how can Satan cast out Satan? I also have a question, sir. For me it feels as if when I tell the Lord of what I’ve done, the heinous things like hardening my heart and running from Him, holding truth sinfully (Romans 1), and spitting in his face, that it is so heinous that I cannot be forgiven. Please pray for me. My name is Trenton, and I am 16.

I found myself saying if you walk in the spirit your no longer under the law.. but under grace by faith in love .. without conviction there is no repentance .. kind of why I think scripture says it's only God who leads us to repentance .. take Steven for example. One of the greatest messages ever preached .. resulted in seeing the son while everyone else see's pride not conviction .. the number one thing God hates is pride. He hardens the hearts of those who don't believe .. and Im sure alot of people aren't aware of the unbelief ... but if there's anything other than Jesus he dies in vain . Our faith is futile. Fear is the beggining of wisdom .. being careful where we stand .. and knowing where to stand firm ..

To be saved, one needs faith in Jesus that he died for our sins and we are no longer bound to death. But to have faith that Jesus died for our sins, I need to feel that sin is bad. Why do we need a saviour if we don't know how bad sin is? The faith I need is not faith that Jesus exists, that's shown as an indisputable truth, so it is faith that he died for our sins and so we no longer need to pay for our sins ourselves. But if I don't believe sin is bad... What need is there for Jesus dying for it? and how will I trust in Jesus for dying for me for something I don't believe is bad?

The sun is incredibly hot, an indisputable fact, I know that it is hot no matter what, even if it's night and I'm in Antarctica and I don't feel that the sun is hot. Even if I traveled thousands of light-years away from the sun and couldn't feel any of the sun's heat, I know that it's hot whether or not I feel the heat. You can recognize your need for grace without necessarily feeling your need for grace. I have issues with feeling hungry, today I ate a bit of yogurt in the morning, after hours and hours I didn't feel like I needed food(although granted you can fast for a long time, but I heard that you aren't supposed to fast until 30 because of health reasons), but I knew that I should probably eat since I had barely anything, so I ate, without feeling the need for food,. Some people don't feel anything when they're injured, but if they break a bone, they can know that and go to the doctor without necessarily feeling the pain of a broken bone. Feeling and knowing something isn't necessarily the same.

The question is, 'does God bring about conviction of sin', it's not whether the Holy Spirit saves us. In your brother-in-aw's life Jesus broke through, which itself shows that God was involved in His conversion. The fundamental doctrine of Repentance from Dead Works and placing our Faith in Jesus Christ (Heb 6:1), is placed in a person's heart by the working of the Holy Spirit. When we don't do it, it means we haven't listened to what God is screaming at us (through various means). It's not question of being 'elect' or not. The question is "are you listening to Him". The parable of the sower shows clearly that seed of faith is placed in each ones heart, whether we let it take root or not is our choice. But the seed is placed by Him (by whatever means).

Right. Salvation is a work of God's grace from beginning to end, including repentance and faith which are the fruit or evidence of a regenerated (born again) heart (Acts 11:18; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 6:44, 63, 65; John 6:37; 10: 26, 27-29)--that that person has become a new (spiritual) creation through the supernatural working of God's Spirit in the human heart in regeneration (new birth)and faith in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17, 21).

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. I greatly appreciated this message. Again and again, God has encouraged me through these teachings. Big thanks for making these available on the internet (freely!). On a side note, I was disappointed how Ray Comfort was mentioned here, as though his evangelism that involves going through some of the commandments is some sort of personal gimmick. It certainly isn't. In your example of the rich young ruler, you're correct that Jesus didn't linger on the man's response, going through each infraction, but he *did* start there. I don't think he started with the law and then thought 'this isn't working. Let me switch tactics'. (Rom 3:20 and also Gal 3:24 "Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith".) Still, as one who is far too often tempted to be led astray by emotion, instead of battling unbelief with the truth of God's word, I found this message so incredibly helpful. Thank you, thank you, thank you again!

The question is two parts. 1) do you have to have Holy Spirit conviction and 2) must you feel convicted. Many many arminians hold that the Holy Spirit comes only after a person exercises belief in Christ. Reformed theology (biblical) holds a person cannot come to Christ and cannot exercise faith unless the Spirit firstly convicts him of sin. Upon conviction of sin a person knows he needs a savior. He won’t need a Savior if he doesn’t think he has sinned. This work of the Spirit comes first. That’s why salvation is all of God and not of man. 2) we don’t base our faith in feelings. The more we know God the more we grieve over sin but the depth of grief or feelings about it vary from one person to another. How many tears you cry over your sin is no determining factor because some have cried only crocodile tears.

The conviction of your heart through your conscience by The Holy Spirit comes before receiving Christ. Because without the conviction of the Holy Spirit then your not open to receive the gospel. No the conviction alone doesn't save you, but it opens up your heart through your conscience in order to receive the gospel. You can quote John 3:16 a dozens times and never receive Jesus if your conscience hasn't been convicted by the Spirit. Of course being convicted by the Spirit is not the same as being baptized and receiving it.

We don't come to Christ because we think we are elect, we come to Christ because God has commanded men everywhere to repent and believe in Christ for salvation. Nevertheless, that does not alter or change the fact that salvation is a work of God's grace from beginning to end, including repentance and faith which are the fruit or evidence of a regenerated (born again) heart (Acts 11:18; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 6:44, 63, 65; John 6:37; 10: 26, 27-29)--that that person has become a new (spiritual) creation through the supernatural working of God's Spirit in the human heart in regeneration (new birth)and faith in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17, 21).

Tim, I'm surprised you would ask this question. John chapter 17 in its' entirety is Jesus' prayer to the Father "for them which thou hast given me" John 17:9. In fact, let's look at just this one verse because Jesus repeats the same basic thing over again *many* times in John 17: *I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.* - John 17:9 This implies ownership, and Jesus is clear and specific not all belong to Him. And if you look at John 6:44 and John 6:65 Jesus tells us clearly that no man can come to Him unless it is of the Father. Therefore, it is only by the will of God that a man be saved, and not by his own accord. Romans 3:11 tells us "there are none that seeketh after God", are any of us the exception to that in our previous unregenerated state? The scriptures tell us clearly that NO ONE seeks after God. Romans 9:16 Paul tells us that "So then it is not of him that willeth, nor him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy." In fact Romans 9:13-26 Paul tells us verse after verse after verse that it is in fact, God who chooses, not man. It is God who "showeth mercy" by electing them to salvation in Jesus Christ: *Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.* - Romans 8:30

And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And "whosoever will", let him take the water of life FREELY. @Red_Sector_7

Election and grace is solely by the will of the Father. "Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father" - 1 Peter 1:1. Peter does not say we are elected to salvation by anything we did or said, but by God's own will. It is not my opinion it it is what the Bible teaches. Read Romans 9:16-23. In that chapter, Paul tells us clearly is it God who chose us according to His foreknowledge and that it is He that chooses vessels made unto honour and those unto dishonour. Romans 8:30 says we were predestined to salvation. Jesus told the apostles they did not chose Him, He chose them: "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you" - John 15:16 The apostles did not chose to follow Jesus on their own, they were *chosen* by Him to follow. You mentioned Ephesians, great choice, let's go there and see what it says. Oh look what we found: According as he hath *chosen* us in him before the foundation of the world - Eph. 1:4 >>>That says God chose, not you. Having *predestined* us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ unto himself according to the good pleasure of his will. - Eph. 1:5 >>>That says God predestined us to salvation according to His own will. Doesn't say anything about our will, nor will you find that anywhere in the Bible. People need to stop trying to get the scriptures to fit their own doctrine, and believe what God tells us in the Bible. It has always been God the Father that chooses man to salvation. It is the gift of God. Jesus Himself said in John 6:44 and John 6:65 that no one can come to Him unless they are drawn by the Father. That means by Jesus' own words, that it is the Father who chooses us, it is not us that chooses God. How can man choose God, when Paul writes in Romans 3:11 that *none* seek after God? As I asked previously here so I will ask you, are you the exception to this? Am I? Did Paul write that some would choose God on their own accord? No, he does not. He said that NO ONE seeks after God. The faith a person has to believe the gospel of our salvation is a GIFT given from God the Father before the foundation of the world. "...according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." - 1 Peter 1:1. 2 Peter 1:1 says our faith came "through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ." Does any of that say it was YOU who chose God, or that it was YOU that had faith of your own accord to believe the gospel of your salvation? Again, no it does not. The scriptures over and over again tell us that it is God that chose us from the beginning, and that it is the Father who draws us through the Holy Spirit to Jesus Christ, and that salvation is the gift of God. None of that has anything to do with what we say, think, feel or anything else, but of God's sovereign will. "So then it is not of him that willeth, nor him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy." - Romans 9:16

I do hope you know that in Romans 3, Paul is directly quoting several Psalms, ALL of which are speaking about the WICKED and the FOOLISH (Psalm 53 contains the "none seek after God" line). Paul is purposely quoting these Psalms and using hyperbole. Obviously there were (examples in Scripture) and are today people who seek after God.

Moreover, the verb "draw" when used about people does NOT mean "force". It means "attract", "entice", "seduce". What kind of father forces his children to love him? What kind of man forces himself on his bride??? He wants a relationship with WILLING people. "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that ***he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him***" (Hebrews 11:6)

@@leenieledejo6849 Paul makes a statement without qualification. What you are doing is sticking your personal conjecture into scripture, which is not doctrine of God but your personal opinions. I dont care about your opinions, I care about the word of God and scripture, and rightly dividing the word of truth. Furthermore Romans 9:15-23 are pretty clear that it is God who chooses and not the person. And by the way 2 Thessalonians 2:13 makes this abundantly clear for the hard of reading and basic comprehension: But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning *chosen you to salvation* through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: - 2 Thessalonians 2:13

@edwardlongfellow5819 Hi, I know this comment is quite old and I have no idea what you believe now, but God was no different in the old testament, the difference is, the new testament was written over thousands of years, the new testament was written within just over 60 years (apart from revelation). God is perfectly good, and it's because he's perfectly good that He is just. Psalm 103:12 (I think) tells us God separates our sin as far from us as the east is from the west. God has to be separate from sin, but instead of separating Himself from us, He chose to seperate us from our sin so we can be reconciled with Him.

I would just like to chime in here because some of these well meaning answers are not strictly true. Do you believe in Jesus? That He died on the cross and rose again in victory of death and sin so all who believe in Him are saved? If you do believe this, this means the Holy Spirit now lives inside of you Romans 8:9. The Holy Spirit doesn’t depart from new covenant believers Ephesians 1:13-14 not does He convict believers of sin because they are made righteous through faith in Jesus. The conscience is foot at convicting us of sin and Satan is also called the accuser of the brethren. The Holy Spirit guides believers into truth! He reminds them that they are righteous, new creations that they are DEAD to sin! Hope this helps.
