I practiced on fake then for my first one on a person my husband had been watching me practice and wanted me to try on him. There was a learning curve from fake to human skin. The ink absorbs differently, turns out needle depth on him was deeper than the penny depth I'd practiced for cause on him that was too shallow but the second I'd go a teeniest bit deeper you'd see the skin suck the ink in which was interesting to watch after the fake skins! He chose a really hard tattoo w big circles on his chest! Luckily the circles are bands that are blacked out so I was able to have that learning curve of if I wobbled I could put a more perfect line slightly outside the wobble to smooth the outer edge w any wobbles being hidden within the black out. I think I'd recommend first tattoos be ones where the tat will be solid black so you can practice your lining and then be able to easily black out any whoospsie lines by being able to contain them inside the borders of the lining and black them out. Probably the smartest first tats especially if someone is wanting a tat on an area that constantly moves w breathing like the chest. I told him, you just HAD TO pick the torso and big thin circle bands in it and geometric shapes to give me a trial by fire?! He just kept saying, "I trust you, you're doing great!" I felt like Will Farrell in whatever movie it is that he says, "I'm so f'in scared right now!" We got it all outlined last night and now he's letting that heal then we will go in and black it out. Can't wait for one on am arm or leg or some place that isn't breathing! Lol but I guess if I pulled that off 1st tat I should do ok ultimately! Yikes!

Thank you so much for this video. I am really grateful for the time you put into these. One thing I would like to more about in depth is over working the skin - I am very worried to take more than one pass on a line, or overwork too much when trying to saturate colors - I guess my question is how do you know when to stop or hold off?

You're welcome! Thank you for your support and feedback. That my friend is a great subject! I can make a video touching base on this specific topic as I feel others would gain from as well. In a nutshell I feel it comes down to experience and knowing what to look for. There is a term I have heard time and time again which is "reading the skin" and that skill of knowing how to read the skin has come naturally. Over working the skin is something that will happen as we are applying the tattoo so we can see the trauma if any happening prior to overworking. If we aren't paying attention to the specific persons skin we are tattooing we will be more prone to over working the skin. Signs of over working is excessive bleeding, tugging on the skin with the needles will overwork and damage the skin, deep red around or on the tattoo site, texture on the skin, and the list goes on. These are all signs of potential overworking. Depending on the hand of the artist has will determine what type of issues that would arise I feel.
@DanielYuck3 жыл бұрын
@@Lumpdadabubub I feel that is a good ball park, but with consideration on multiple variables. Such as the setup the artist is running, the expertise and experience, and more. Some can get by with more passes some with less, it is hard to say an exact number off the top because of the variables.

This was really helpful to me being that I’m teaching myself. The only thing I see you can improve on is your stencil applicator. I saw a video and in it this guy used something called stencil honey. His use of it impresses me so I got it. I will not apply a stencil with anything other than stencil honey . But now Lemme ask you, does this needle depth work on color packing and shading to? Sorry if my terminology is wrong , I’m teaching myself and I need all the help I can get .

Curious about a couple things... 1. why is the paper towel covering one half? Is it just ready at hand? help to see straight lines? friction support? 2. the tube deposit (aka hole on top) I was told needs to face the direction you are going, but often i see it offset or even at a 45 degree angle. I am just learning and it is not meant to criticize, I am just curious why you decided to do it this way. It clearly seems to work and I am wondering what makes it work well. I also am doing a similar needle type and voltage so this helped a lot. I have tattoos so feeling the vibration is going to be easy to determine. I just hope I am okay the first time I go in!

Hey man, bought your lining book! “ the tattoo journal “ date in the back page before the back booklet is 09 June 2023! It’s helping a lot! Been using the pen machine with the pen attachment for practice instead of a regular pen or pencil

Hi Daniel, how did you get the stencil stroke so perfect? The thickness of the stroke is accurate to the cartridge. Did you traced it with pen or was it printed on thermal?
@ericblackheart99282 жыл бұрын
Use a thick micron that’s probably what he used or just be like every tattooer out there using a rotary dildo and get an ipad
@Inkesomnia2 жыл бұрын
That’s achieved with stencil printer

That is a great question! I typically will get the line wight some what lined up and thought out when I am creating the design. So I will essentially select the line weight when creating the stencil and use the appropriate needle sizes to complete the tattoo.

Hi Daniel, I'm an apprentice who just put his first few tattoos after practicing on fake skin and myself.Your videos have helped me so much with holding my machine and doing lines! Since people start asking to do other areas than arms and legs nog, I was wondering if there's any rule of thumb, video or reference to have an estimation on how to handle the skin on an area I haven't tattoo'd yet. For example: "should I go softer or harder on the area of the hips?" I have experienced artists working at the shop who can explain me, but I haven't found an online reference yet. If you got an idea, I'd love to hear it!
