Nice video, the finger drag is something I was never able to make work personally, but that leverage is so key to maintaining depth consistency. I like seeing this technique even though I have a different method to leverage the depth using the side of my hand & fist. Another major factor for me is if the cartridges fit well in the machine. Some brands just don't fit well in my machine causing wobbling and excessive vibration which obviously makes one pass more challenging. Surprisingly, I don't find Big Wasp to be too bad even though it's one of the much cheaper brands. My fav affordable cartridge brand is Stigma for sure.. Thanks for taking the time to share this knowledge, you're awesome

I have been watching a lot of videos from a lot of artists and have not had much success. I’m not a young kid in my 20s I’m in my 50s and I was getting quite frustrated and was about to give up thinking maybe I’m just too old to do this, I’ve been through numerous practice skins and all kinds of fruit but didn’t have the confidence to actually start on real human skin. But today I said fuck it! and went ahead and did something simple on my thigh. You videos are humble and eloquent that make perfect sense...thank you again!

I'm not a tattoo artist, I know nothing about this art. That being said, I feel like I can hear a good cadence from your machine when you're moving it at the right speed and voltage. It sounds much different when you're going to fast or slow. Do you use auditory cues as a guide, or is it mostly just the general feel of everything? On a side note, when I was in high school, a dude in my class was an amazing artist. He told us back then (over 20 years ago; late 90s) that he was going to be a tattoo artist. We didn't think much of it, and I definitely didn't think it was really going to turn into a legitimate career for him. Again this was over 20 years ago and tattooing wasn't as socially acceptable. Fast forward to today, and that same dude is doing amazing. He's one of the most successful people in our graduating class. He has his own shop, and travels all over the place to do conventions. This is a great business to get into if you are artistic. I bet a lot of our teachers would be very surprised to see that guy today... he's kicking ass.

Great video thanks for all the good lessons. one thing about this video is the audio. I am listening to it on my JBL's in my living room and I can hear a constant thumping like a heartbeat going through the whole video. Is this a microphone artifact? or was this meant to sound like that? I am hyper sensitive to these kind of little back ground noises and it's making it hard for me to finish the lesson. Other than my complaint that is very minor and probably only effects ME your videos are great, I subscribed. I used to tattoo back in the day with the old acetate stencils it's been over 40 years and I just got back into the idea of tattooing again but I am working on fake skin to get back into doing them with a coil machine I've had for years and boy was I out of whack. I don't plan on touching anyone with a needle until I am back to my former glory of doing great traditional style tattooing. I just ordered a Mast tattoo pen and it wasn't really expensive around 300.00 but I am wondering if I should actually use this machine on anyone after I start doing them again or should I go for a more expensive better name brand machine?

Quick question. Wouldn’t the stencil smear off if you’re dragging your middle finger with the needle? Apparently the voltages i line with vs what I use to pack black and colors is backwards from most lol. In line with 8.1v but I pack with only 6.8v at most 7.5 (very rare) I also shade in that area. Most folks line at a lower power than the pack at. With some even having 1 consistent voltage throughout

Hey Daniel- question about lining with round shader; when I work along with the video I seem to get a series of super thin lines within each line, like from each needle tip in the configuration. Also the slower I go the more damage or cutting happens on the fake skin. Suggestions? What stroke do you suggest using on the fake skin. It seems that its either too light (always having to go back over them) or too deep (cutting the skin)

But putting the index finger like that wouldn't make the needle enter oblique?
@DanielYuck2 жыл бұрын
Thats a good one! I am uncertain how it would work for others but from my experience building up my muscle memory and getting more comfortable with the tattooing process this method worked for me. I feel it would vary from artist to artist on how their needle would enter the skin. Some artist have a particular hold and grip on their machine which makes when perform and posterize a specific way. I think if this is something we are just trying out for the first time and unfamiliar with how we need and hold our needle for the line at hand we may end up with inconsistent results. Im certain technical expertise also plays a huge part as well.
