Such a full episode. It is wonderful to see all your projects. Ray.The jacket look great. If you can be happy with the sleeve length, when your hands are in you pockets, it all looks like there couldn't be more toasty warmth. Kevin. Your spinning is gorgeous and what a beautiful array of your dyed yarns. A treat to see them. Always love the Skyler stories. Best wishes for more October.

For the jacket, I do agree the fit looks great but the sleeves look a little large. Honestly I think I'd rip back to after the large diamonds and then start tapered decreases all the way down to the ribbing to bring it in and cinch them up

Ray when I have run into this sort of sleeve issue I do a couple of things. I would rip back to the place where you talked about cutting it. Right after that colorwork section. Then decrease needle sizes along with stitch decreases to tighten up the arm and bring it up in length. Don't fast decrease or you will get a pointy bit where you start that. I would make sure when you do the cuff that you have gotten down at least 2 needle sizes in mm by the time you start the cuff. so 1.5 mm decrease in needles sizes down the sleeve then down another one to start the cuff. That will make it more dense and tighter so it is not so stretchy and baggy. You can also remove a few of the plain rows between the colorwork sections. Between all that you would get a smoother transition and a tighter more dense cuff so it keeps it shape better and a shorter sleeve. I hope this helps some.

Wow Kevin your spinning is going amazing. I am just starting to dabble in it with a drop spindle and I am now taking a class in it. My spinning has not improved as much as yours (yet). I will be renting a wheel for the class and hopefully I can get the hang of it. Ray - I love the jacket and I think you are right that shortening the brown sections of the arms and then kitchener-ing the edges together like Kevin suggested will get the sleeves to a better length. You chose a great colour scheme, it suits you quite well.

Hello!! I have a Daedalus Magpie and Sparrow. They are incredible wheels. Solid construction but still light and stable, no rocking while spinning, even at high speeds. Quite, oh SO quiet. Super simple to adjust to. Very easy to customize if you want to use scotch or Irish tension. Not to mention how much you can get packed on the bobbins. Even my sparrow can hold 5 oz!! There is no doubt in my mind that you will love the Starling. Plus, if you have any problems at all, they have phenomenal customer service and are extremely responsive to emails. All around very much so worth the investment.

I LOVE YOU GUYS MORE!!!! 😂 Ray- You can always kitchener the sleeve first, check the fit, and cut the excess off later. You can also steek up the inside seam of the sleeve and secure your stitches with a crochet hook if you really feel it's too wide. But in my very-humble-doesn't-matter-at-all opinion- it looks like an extra cozy jacket to me. You can totally get away with it as-is. Kev- keep spinning man. You're blowing my mind! Now if you'll excuse me... I have a beautiful shawl to knit in NATR yarn 😊😊😊 ❤Meg

Thank you so much friend!! Ray is probably going to leave the sleeves alone, it is a cozy sweater. The spinning is getting out of hand, it’s all I want to do, but having so much fun with it.
@kimbetts42823 ай бұрын
Hey hey hey, great to catch up with you both ❤ Ray,I think Kevin's suggestion of cutting out, and Kitchener stitching the sable brown section (after the first section of colour work) is probably the easiest and most logical way to adjust the sleeve length. As for the depth of the raglan, I wouldn't worry about it too much. That depth will allow you to wear a jumper underneath it. What really stands out to me, from a dressmaking/tailoring point of view, is the shawl collar is not substantial enough to match the overall size of the jacket. I dont think there's enough of a roll over of the shawl collar and therefore it doesn't have enough weight to pull up the jacket . I think the collar and button band is just not wide enough. The proportions don't match the rest of the jacket. So ,I would suggest adding some more rows to your button band and collar, and Kitchener the sleeves and then see how it's fitting. I feel doing those two things would improve the fit a lot for you ❤️ Overall, it's a massive knit and I love your colours. Kevin, love the spinning! It's gorgeous ❤ and I'm loving your jacket too! You're both so great with your colour combinations. Love and hugs from Melbourne ❤
@NeedlesattheReadyPodcast3 ай бұрын
Totally agree about the shawl collar, after wearing it we could see that a larger collar would be better.

You guys are sooo funny. Ray, if the size of the sleeves does not bother you why not just take the last brown portion and put the blue row right after the cream ? Or just undo the sleeves up to where you want it to be a bit smaller and redo without the brown section? Your jacket is so beautiful it might be worth it to redo the sleeves so you are super happy with it. Because one day, they will be gone. I can't tell you how many toys that my bird loves that I stockpile. They are creatures of habit and when they love something, they love it.

Thank you, the trunks how was amazing. We definitely need to buy some more of the bells for him, it really is his favorite thing. We already have an extra one on standby.

The sweater is amazing Ray.. great job in matching the lines!! Although it’s a little big it’s not that nasty.. you’ll figure out how to adjust it .. I can’t imagine cutting or how to do it!! Can’t wait to hear about what you end up doing …

So glad to see you guys! Congratulations on your trunk show. I can’t wait to see your Autumn League Pullover! It’s on my first sweater list. Kevin, you will have to share you thoughts on it as a beginner sweater to knit.

Great episode, guys! Love the FOs and the WIPs. And your colors are to die for, Kevin! Sorry to say, Ray, that through my monitor your 3 dye lots look different. One is definitely darker and one is slightly less definitely lighter. You might need to do some alternating of skeins when you're going to be switching off.

Interesting, we will need to take a look in better lighting.

Someone may have mentioned this?.... handspun yarn is often heavier per yard than commercially spun yarn, depending somewhat on how you spun it and how it was prepped (worsted versus woolen). Best way I have found to check size is WPI and also gauge. Test several sections of the yarn to get a better idea of the overall weight. I learned to spin on a nano and loved it so much I burnt up the motor after 3 months. I ended up getting a Schacht ladybug which is the one thing I would grab, other than my cats, in a fire. I have also since adopted a CPW and a EEL 6. Electric wheels are great to learn on, you don't have to worry about your feet and can just focus on the fiber. Next thing you know you'll be dyeing your own braids. I much prefer it to dyeing yarn.

Thank you for the info, I’ll check the WPI of them skeins.

Kevin, when you showed your first spin my jaw actually dropped and then I did that nervous laugh when something is so good that like shouldn't be you know? just wowed and then when you held up your second I laughed out loud. That is ridiculously good. Like seriously what is even happening right now?! Ahhhmazing

Thank you, I’ve really been enjoying the process and so happy with how the spins have been coming out.

1:02:46 Your jacket is beautiful as it is. I would use some elastic thread on the cuffs. Just crochet on the inside to make them cinch in on your wrists. I love the inclusion of minecraft in your colors (Mossy Cobblestone). One of my favorite color combos in minecraft is with the Enderman. Black, pink, purple. ❤

So for self-striping, I'm saving all of my woolens and nosh leftovers to make scrappy socks with. I'm also planning on knitting a Jelly Roll with leftover self-striping (all of the other dyers). So, if you wanted to make a blanket, you could do a Jelly Roll with all full skein of Woolens and Nosh. I also saw a dyer, Area 51 Fibers, used all of her sample sock tubes and stitched them together to make a blanket (looks like a Jelly Rollish).

HEY YOU GUYS!!! Ray: Love the sweater just the way it is. It's definitely more outdoor walk in the snow, rather than around the house doing chores, with those sleeves. There'll be plenty of times when that extra fabric will feel really toasty. If you do decide to do some kind of sewn adjustment, look into doing a lozenge shape, that will avoid or lessen the puckers at the edges. Kevin: Well, tally up one more fiber related rabbit hole. Seriously, congrats on the spinning. And, as always your colorways are tops.

Thank you for the tip on the sweater. The spinning has been so much fun, it is getting out of hand, I see more fiber coming home with me in a coupe of weeks.

Love the cardigan, Ray! If it were mine, the only thing I would do is roll up the cuff a bit. It truly looks great as is but I like an over sized sweater with extra long sleeves. I like to be able to cuff the sleeve. As Always, enjoyed the episode!

Because I couldn’t be at your trunk show I wanted to make a purchase to support you guys. I went to the shop and picked a skein that knocked my socks off-- no pun intended. I absolutely fell in love with Monet’s Garden and ordered it, then I watched the video and you said it was a mistake-- Holy crap, what a beautiful mistake and I’m so glad I’ll have one.

My my you have been busy. I actually listened a couple days ago. It was in the wee hours but I forgot to comment. That yarn shop looks amazing. I always love what you make and what you share. Are you going to have kits? I think I asked before. I thought you said yes. Maybe I'm just dreaming. IMO...."it would be nice! I didn't know parakeets could talk. He's a clever bird. You guys are sooo funny. Ray, if the size of the sleeves does not bother you why not just take the last brown portion and put the blue row right after the cream ? Or just undo the sleeves up to where you want it to be a bit smaller and redo without the brown section? I just love watching you both so very much. It makes my day 💙🩵

Ray, your Gambier and colors are great but I do think it looks a tad large. If you have a front load dryer with a steam function (or you know someone who does have one), you could measure your swatch and then steam it on the lowest setting, remeasure and see if that will tighten it up just a hair and then put your jacket on the same setting? Just a thought. Always love your & Kevin's podcast & projects. Thanks for all the inspiration.
