good morning and happy new year! y’all have inspired me to be more relaxed with my knitting and trust the process instead of constantly stressing over things like gauge. can’t wait to see what y’all make in 2025!

I know that sometimes you two mention there being more FOs than you could show. So I would think it's fun to hear about your favorite makes that didn't make it to the podcast! The flipping button band bottom: If your row gauge is often to long, I wonder if you need to pick up more stitches in the beginning and ending of the button band for for ones that are worked perpendicular to your knitting (i.e. ribbed button bands where one row is the entire length of the button band). Like your stitches are skinny and long, so when you work a skinny stitch into the side of long stitch, it causes it to pull up and flip. What I dislike about the Kibbe types is its subjective framed like objective. It doesn't take any of the wearers personality or preferences into account because its supposed to be this categorical thing based on your "essence", but its really just like "I think soft/round features and bodies should wear this and tall thin bodies should wear this and muscular stout bodies should wear this and its what looks best on them." But like says who? Some people feel there best when they harmonize with things like how slim, soft, round, muscular, striking etc their features are and some people feel best when they balance out those same features. Like I'm busty and I feel my best when my outfits accentuate that. But depending on the style guidance, some absolutely insist I must draw attention away from my bust, while others absolutely insist that I draw attention to my bust. And then the idea that the shape of ones body has anything to do with their personality aesthetic is wild to me (there's a component of the Kibbe typing that speaks to the person's personality, as if having sharp cheekbones says anything about someone's personality or even if they are more of a ruffles or a studs kind of person). And, the whole basis behind it is what others will like on you, instead of what you like on you, and what makes you feel your best. I think style guidance that's more focused on how to highlight or minimize specific aspects (if that's what the wearer wants) is much more useful than "you're soft so you must dress in flowy clothes that cinch in at the waist." Prescribing what elements look best on someone based on how tall they are or where they store their fat is nonsense to me. Because I agree, even if it's what's supposed to look best based on your physical characteristics, if you are uncomfortable and it clashes with who you are, it will never look better than the clothes you feel most yourself in. The fact that you don't feel comfortable will shine through and cancel out any harmony its supposed to have with your level of yin or yang. I haven't actually put together my make 9 yet, but it's definitely going to be more "yarn first" centered because I tend to be a more "yarn first" knitter.

I LOVED your make nine discussion--I've been trying so hard lately to organize my knitting butterfly mind toward a more cohesive, I guess more "planned" project list, and your conversation and ideas around doing the same was just so good. Going beyond the "capsule wardrobe" concept and deeply integrating yourself--whoo, amazing. Thank you! My most worn, most favorite, most reliable and most Old Faithful is that genius Melissa's Turtledove. That pattern has worked for me in any size, with any yarn, every time. Honestly, I'll never not be knitting one. I'm getting ready to cast on my TENTH Turtledove! As always, thank you for all the inspiration. xoxo

gleðilegt nýtt ár from here in Iceland, you two! lovely to check in with you this morning while I pick up and work on a sleeve I've been avoiding (my Mastiha! in Phinela worsted! need to finish and then figure out my version of the button band issue). Carmen, both the red and gold sweaters are color-amazing -- bravo on both counts. and love the recap of the year's knits, especially (oddly) the didn't-wear-so-much category -- like your Instant Crush, I made one all-over colorwork sweater this past year in insanely soft yarns that I love but never wear -- the patterning, while gorgeous to look at, just feels too busy to wear & makes me incredibly self-conscious, even though I love the colors and the fabric -- like the sweater is shouting past me, somehow. so it feels a bit ironic that I'm also very excited about the Wallin-along or whatever the KAL ends up being called -- I'll just need to choose my colors carefully to perhaps be on the more low-contrast/subtle side of things. and I think my 2025 should probably be fewer shawls, even though I love making them, as I really don't wear the large ones much at all -- I LOVE a small one I can wind tightly around my neck, but the big ones are, again more like Carmen, more like cardigans except I'd prefer to have the sleeves.

So excited! I forgot to tell you girls you spent this last Saturday with me making Grandma’s sauce which took 8 hours! It was so nice to have you with me as I made the sauce and watched your older episodes! This morning it’s even better as I can just relax and knit with you both!

Hear me out... an off-season retrospective done twice a year. Reviewing the knits you made during fall/winter in the summer, and vise-versa. Eh? Eh? It would allow you to have time to accumulate data on whether or not you like/wear something.

I bought the book, I bought the Marie Wallin yarn and it literally just arrived today. So I’m in on the knit along! 🎉

Interestingly my favorite knits this year matched up a lot with things in this podcast lol. I usually like to knit cables, lace, or something challenging but I had several surgeries this year and didn't always have the headspace for that so I knit a couple stockinette projects that I loved making and have worn everywhere. I have also had problems with sensations this year thanks to my fibromyalgia so it was important they be soft if I was going to wear them all the time. My two favorite knits this year are 1. Halu by Caitlin Hunter which I knit in knitting for olive merino in the color snowflake and a variegated suri from kinetic knitter called crowd pleaser. It's so soft and cozy and looks like watercolors. The second thing I loved this year is the no frills cardigan by petite knit. I knit it in knitting for olive merino again and we are knitters touch me mohair. I've barely taken it off since I finished it. They are my most worn this year and my favorite knits this year.

Ahh very fun episode! I really like getting to see what you have and haven’t worn and why. You’re helping me make better crafting choices for myself too lol Jackie I love your idea of talisman knits and your key words for different things you want to infuse into your knitting! I just finished the Halibut sweater by Caitlin Hunter and I also had a lot of trouble with the yoke. The first time it turned out huge and I had to go down three sizes and do a bunch of mods. She’s got great looking patterns but just not quite the fit for me. I’ve done three color work sweaters in a row now and I’m just itching to cast on something with a bunch of textures and cables. I’m thinking the Three Season Cardigan by Wool & Pine.

Caitlin’s swancho was always a swoon for me but double mohair 😱 Jackie I love it. I’ve knit double mohair a few times and I adore it. I’ve wet blocked with no issue. Stick everything in the freezer and voilà you’re back to being socially acceptable. Mohair - just use a soft bristle brush and give it a little groom (when it’s had too much wear) and it’s magic, back to new. Feel better Carmen 😢 thanks for the fun, Karen 🥰

My goal this year is more cozy warm knits. I am moving to Scotland this summer (I'm currently in London) and although I am originally from Northern Ontario, the cold hits so different in the UK. I also want more bright colours as wearing something fun helps me when it gets dark early.

At the beginning of the year I picked a sweater to be a year long project. Yes a Marie Wallin. I have had the yarn for the Primrose since 2021. I started a swatch on New Year’s Day and immediately got into overwhelm of the idea of this sweater with 15 colors. Then I thought maybe I should do a hat first, but then I might not have enough yarn for the sweater. So I nixed that idea. I decided perhaps I should do an all over colorwork sweater in 2 colors as a warm up. So a friend and I are doing the Obsidian by Tania Barley sweater first. Then I’ll feel more confident to take on the Primrose.

Girls! Are you kidding me with all of your amazing knits, I seriously cannot pick a favourite….however the one I did not catch the name of is the electric lavender lace weight one, please I’d love the name. I’ve added so many items to my “want to knit” list from this episode…love your podcast so much ❤❤❤❤

Hey you two 👋 My most worn sweaters are Lisa Cudrow's "The Classic" in Nutiden and the Ranunculus knit in Ullcentrum. My favorite and most worn shawl is the "Pressed Flowers Shawl" also knit in Nutiden. A Marie Wallin KAL sounds great. I've been actually thinking about turning the colour work band of the Yell cardigan (started a couple years ago) into a pillowcase. Wanna join me with your never worn fluff sweaters? 😂

Would it be possible to steek your Instant Crushes into cardigans? I'm not sure if you can steek mohair... I think it could be cute! You'd get some more ease by opening them up. I don't know, just a thought. Happy New Year, ladies! ❤

And anyway, if you decide that yellow doesn’t do it for you after all, you can always overdye it. When I was little my father took me shopping and I picked out a mustard yellow corduroy jacket and pants. My mother was horrified when she saw the outfit, but I really loved it even though it truely wasn’t my color and I wore it to death😆

Would love to join in a Marie Wallin KAL - I’ve got Daffodil in hibernation and would love the incentive to pull it out and I really want to knit something like Rosalee (in blues) or Chestnut but I’m not entirely sure I would wear them.
