I deeply appreciate how this scene is portrayed as the tragedy that it is in universe. This is not a great victory for Gon, this is not him gaining a new level of power through determination in order to beat an impossible foe, this is Gon throwing away all he could have ever had in a childish rage and viciously brutalising a helpless opponent. This is incredibly sad and powerful and commend the makers.

it may have been a little childish, but I think Gon's sacrifice is sometimes underestimated, he was very attentive to everything in this final arc. If not for his sacrifice, Pitou would have wiped out all the other hunters in the invasion.

Wing told Gon at the beginning of greed island arc “you must never do what kurapika did”, now you know why. Gon sacrificed everything, his nen, all those years of life, his own body, all he had to achieve his revenge. He wasn’t protecting anyone, he wasn’t fighting for a right cause, he just wanted to get revenge and throw away everything for that. No nobility, no selflessness within his sacrifice, it just a pure revenge desire because he didn’t give a damn about himself, he would have never found any satisfaction if he couldn’t destroy Pitou. I love how Gon is the deconstruction and negation of the stereotype of the classical shonen main character.

@@gausly in that moment, yeah, but all Gon wanted was based on his delusion. Everybody who saw Kite's puppet understood that he was dead for good, no hope to "heal" him. Gon decided to held on that hope, that was merely delusion since it was impossible, and sinked into the deepest darkness of his rage to realise that delusion, because he just couldn't accept that Kite was gone for good. Also Gon can be delusional, refusing to accept reality and be incredibly naive, but he is not a stupid guy, after witnessing somebody else overhelming power he can be stubborn, but he knows his own limit and he knew that he couldn't win against Pitou on his own as he was, never. And surely he didn't decide on the spot to make that sacrifice, he surely alrady chose to do so if he had to, he was already prepared to make that sacrifice. The moment he lost hope, he lost any will to not do that sacrifice and went for it.

@@yukinarisan12 yes, kurapika restriction makes HIM DIE. it was on himself. there are very few people who used the restriction on themself. look at netero, hisoka, chrollo, bisk, kite...incredible nen users that their restriction are not dangerous for them. chrollo in order to use his great power needs a lot of planification, netero needs to give 100% gratification to buddha before doing anything but kurapika and gon are fighting with different restriction. same stuff happened with komugi, put her life on the line if she ever lost a game (even tho she didn't did it on porpoise). Kurapika gave gon a bad idea unfortunately

Gon's final look at killua kills me everytime. His expression conveys so much sadness, love and regret. He knows what he's done. He knows this is the end for him, that he'll never see killua again because of his selfishness, that killua is hurting immensely from this but it's too late to turn back now so he commits to it and loses everything.

If you remember, the nen condition being done by kurapika, that was showed in episode 47. This is what Gon did, his conditon is he'll use everything just this once in order to kill pitou, and the price is his life energy. Condition + rage

In Pitou's situation as we seen it, even after his death, his nen manage to manifest but it is driven by deep devotion and strong will to protect the king to his last breath. I guess Pitou also came up to putting condition in himself(devotion + condition).

Fun little tidbit from this episode, this is the first time where you can hear Killua's footsteps make a sound (right when he's leaping to save Gon from Pitou). It's a moment where he's thrown away everything he's learned with training, abandoned it all to maybe have a chance to save his friend.

This gets easily overshadowed in this episode. On his way to make sure Gon is ok, you are able to hear Killua's footsteps. And way back it gets pointed out that he learned to silence them. His worry and care for Gon made him forego years of training, something that was probably unconsciously done at this point.

@@ikuzo5847 Um, don't take this the wrong way. I am a huge Bleach fan and Kubo is very talented in some aspects. But when it comes to character development and tugging on your heart strings, Togashi has him beat. That's normal dho. Bleach is merely Kubo's first Manga and he is young. Togashi has been there for ages and lived alongside some of the best Manga/Gekiga writers. He is also very interested in human psychology and sociology, especially when it comes to the darker sides of humanity. So it is normal for it to transpire in his writing. Just like how Kubo who is interested in fashion is a great character designer. My point being. It's alright for people to point out if someone did something better. Even admitting someone sucks at something. If someone asked me what was the best anime I've ever watched. I'd say Legend of the galactic heroes without hesitation. It's not even in my top 50 favorites, but gotta give credit where credit is due. Bleach is in my top 10. But if someone asked me for a well crafted story. I wouldn't even recommend Bleach.

Remember guys, Morel approved that Gon can be dispatched to deal with Pitou because of his rage but what they didn't account for was that there's a reason why he mustn't do it alone so they tasked Killua to go with him. Gon was so scary at the time that Killua couldn't say no to him. Scary to his friends, not me. And I know some people like myself cheered him on. Most reactors were like: "Equal to the king!?"🤐😶😶‍🌫😮 Me however: What did you expect would happen? Gon wanted 2 things. A) To kill Pitou & B) to die while doing it. Guilt & regret.

gon did something like kurapika did on his nen but instead of a contract, gon creates an exchange. He sacrifice his life in exchange for his future power/potential for that moment. He forced his body to grow into a time that he can beat pitou. Even though he still has some years to live, his body cannot withstand the instant change and will not revert to its original form. So killua knows gon is done.

About Pitou comparing Gon to the King, the translation isn't exactly correct. In og Japanese, she says something akin to "his fangs may be able to pierce the King". Which implies Gon may have been a serious threat to the King (probably more of a challenge than even Netero). But this doesn't outright mean he was stronger, unlike what the subs say.

I actually thought that as Killua said Gon's Gigachad form could've been the result of years of endless training. If let's say that form looks like Gon in his 30s-50s, that could be 18-38 years of *endless* training. Imagine if he actually did. He could possibly surpass Netero in terms of physical abilities.

Pre-nuke Meruem was only able to bruise Pitou while going for the kill, while Gon destroyed her face with one punch and then completely crushed her head with a few more. I will give you answer about your question about the storyline without giving spoiler about the next episode of the anime. If you think HxH only following Gon and Killua, you're deadly wrong. The end of this anime is the end of Gon and Killua's arc. The rest arc in the manga is just leaving Kurapika's arc to finding the scarlett eyes, Hisoka's arc to kill Spider's, and Ging's plan to travel to another world. The Spider's will got their own arc too, and everyone I just mention will attracted by political kingdom's problem. That's super messed up once you read the manga. And worse than that, remember the author not in a good health and can die anytime soon (but I hope not) so there's possibility that this series will ended without reaching the real ending. Hope everything alright in the future

Scenes like this remind me that, while I don’t think HxH is worthy of being called the best shonen (but it definitely is top 3), HxH has probably one of the greatest, if not the greatest shonen protagonist out there. Gon manages to both have that standard protagonist optimism, but deep down throughout the entire series the viewer notices hints that something is wrong with kid. The best quote that sums up Gon as a character is when he is called a person that can never be appraised, and that he rides the line between good and bad. No other shonen protagonist begins the series at the most innocent and pure versions of themselves, and slowly throughout the duration of the story begins to lose more and more of their humanity to the point that they become monstrous versions of themselves.

HxH power scaling is on point unlike bleach.Ichigo bankai with his hollow mask was equal to Byakuya Bankai but later it was shown that Ichigo bankai with hollow mask couldn't even scratch Ulquiorra base form. Does this mean, Byakuya with his bankai won't do shit against shikai Shinsui? As we know shikai Shinsui already defeated Starrk whose first release is stronger than Ulquiorra first release. @@anthonyhaye2385 1- If they became that stronger in that short amount of time, what were they doing during the hundreds if not thousands of years they've been alive. 2- I think it's because the hollow masked Ichigo that fought Byakuya was not the same as the mask Ichigo can control, as we see, when White took over Ichigo's body he was stronger than Ichigo in all of his forms because he was after all *SPOILER* his shinigami powers all along.
