Yes. The Ducati looks amazing and special. I nearly bought a BMW HP2 Megamoto in 2008 and every time I see a video like this I regret not doing it - bought a different BMW instead that cost around the same but was actually sensible (is there anything more silly than a 1200cc boxer supermoto wannabe?) and had different kinds of adventures on it. But I still think about that HP2

Your original 1299SL review is one of my favorite bike videos of all time! It really sums up my love for the original panigales. A very well done and timeless classic. Definitely part of the reason why I have a 1299S in my garage right now! Thank you Michael, for being an instrumental part of the motorcycle culture.

Your words echo my thoughts, which is why I bought a Hypermotard 1100 EVO SP as my "forever bike". The last of the really fire breathing booming air-cooled 2V's before everything was strangled away.

I have a base 1299 with some nice parts. Dropped at least 10kg so far. My 1299 is a lot to tame. Could not imagine what this rides like

@cnealmartin I have a 2015 1299s that I purchased new. I have tried to keep the mods. sensible. I put a new clutch slave cylinder on,switched to a 520 chain and alloy sprocket, TWM folding levers with a shorter brake lever,some of the larger bolts replaced with titanium. Just some odds and ends. Its a keeper and I feel the 1299 platform is the last of the real Ducatis. The V-4s do not excite me at all.
@cnealmartin3 ай бұрын
@@P.DuncanMonk I have a 2016 i bought new. Akro slip on cans, gold OZ wheels, Carbon lower fairing and other carbon pieces, 520 chain also. Yep mins a keeper too. I love how small and narrow the bike is. Turns with a thought... the torque pull is unreal. I have done a lot of track time but I am not chasing lap times. I just love the thrill of it.

Thanks for another great article.. you are hands down the best motorcycle journalist out there. 👍👍. I was lucky enough to buy a 1299 Superleggera for my 45th birthday in 2018. Unfortunately I don’t have it anymore. It was an absolute amazing bike, with an insane amount of acceleration. I was able to do a few sessions at Barber’s Motorsport Park in Birmingham, Alabama it was an experience I will never forget. My trackday bike is a ‘13 Panigale 1199R that I still have. I thought it was fast until I road the 1299SL.. I’m happy to see Ducati progress and keep pushing the limits and develop the V4, but I will always be a fan of the original Panigale L twin bikes. Their personality makes the much more fun to ride and ride fast. It can be like riding a bucking bull sometimes. Ironically I was trying to buy a V4 Speciale after waiting 7 or 8 months with no direct answer on when I would actually be able to ride it I bought my 1299 Superleggera. Best decision I could have made. 😀

Been on several Ducati trackdays and it never ceases to amaze me how many people turn up with these exotic limited editions. I saw one 1299 Superleggera that was converted to a full track bike - without the lights and other road paraphernalia it’s close to 150kg dry. Oh how I wish I could afford to risk that kind of money on a track toy!

Wow that sounds lovely its got a lovely rasp to it I saw a 1199 superleggera once at my local bike meet number 86 of 500 I'll never forget clapping eyes on that , I knew the 1199 I saw was a special because it was also a numbered run this was 86 ,I hung about but never saw the owner unfortunately, thanks for the detailed review I had no idea just how special these were. I'd love to see a 1299 in the wild

Nice video and an Awesome motorcycles… mine had different exhaust here in the USA. the exhaust it arrived with was a low mount exhaust like the 1199SL, the race exhaust was the headers and high mount exhaust. The exhaust on this bike looks like the 1299 Final Edition exhaust. Found it interesting there was two different version. Thanks for the video.

In August 2018, I was in Mugello with a handful of British-owned Superleggeras on a track day. All five of them over heated after 20 minutes spewing out coolant. Ducati even came down to fix it - and couldn't. Maybe only designed for UK weather.

Akrapovic Michael… A-krAp-Ovic… not AkrOpAvic…. 😂 A gorgeous bike and probably my favourite SL. Isn’t that what Keane Reeves uses as his track rat? There was something odd about the aspect of the video - it looked a bit stretched horizontally - and the resolution looked a bit 80s? Lovely review though. Your bike? 😉😂

i didn't know the superlegerra was a twin...I had assumed it was a V4. i looked at a 2023/24 V4R last week at the Ducati dealer here in Orlando...they are asking $47K. with a claimed 234 HP with race kit I think I would rather have one of those than an $85K SL that I see on the aftermarket.

Kind of ironic isn't it. This beautiful bike is designed for absolute performance, no penny saved anywhere, and that exactly because of that, it will never be used for its designed and intended purpose, or get anywhere near its performance limit. It always makes me a bit sad, that such a beast of a machine will (almost always) be delegated as a thing to look at or show off with, instead of performing its true purpose and what it is good at. And all of that because of this inherent contradiction: what's the point of throwing all the money on the bike to make it faster, if it will never go fast?
