I'm having trouble with my Neewer Stabilizer rotating too easily/fast. This is causing me a lot of issues when filming. Do you know how to solve this?

Certified SteadiCam owner/operator (a real SteadiCam) since 1978...Certified by Garrett Brown himself. Correct way to balance.. 1st...find the center balance point of your camera rig(use a round pencil or pen that rolls). 2nd...now place your camera rigs balance point over the center of the post...lock it down. 3rd...determine if you want quick moves or lethargic. For lethargic, extend the post. Shorter the post the more of a whip shot you'll achieve. 4th...adjust your weight front & rear to achieve a vertical balance & the side to side on the stage for a full vertical balance. Drop test should be about 2 seconds depending on your shot preference. Best tip...search for dynamic balance for a real SteadiCam either by Garret Brown or Jerry Holloway. Garrett Brown invented the SteadiCam. Also find the practice video...it's old but it works. Shows you how to walk and train...bottom line, practice practice and more pratice. One last thing...don't grip the gimbal handle tight and use only your thumb and index finger on post. Use your pinky to tilt the post. Treat it gently...let it do the work and turn off camera stabilization. Good flying...

why would it be a good idea to turn of camera stabilization? Not questioning your authenticity, just curious about the science

FlybyFrancis from what I understand the stabilization of the camera and steadiness of a tripod or gimbal can distort the video slightly

Have you tried any budget stabilizers like this one? Can they provide some decent results with good technique or is it a get-what-you-pay for thing?

I ended up buying this and couldn't figure out how to make it work for the life of me. I even shot event footage that didn't turn out that well because I didn't have it balanced properly (thankfully it was for personal use and not a client). After this video, I had no problems at all! Thank you!

I have this stabilizer and I am 95% happy with the way it works. How have you dealt with the camera slowly spinning around the vertical axis?
@BVCCo77 жыл бұрын
yes but that just means it needs a little re-adjustment!
@voidvangaurd5 жыл бұрын
Make sure that it takes 2 - 3 seconds for the camera to reach the bottom. Place it on the table and just pick it up with the handle (having only the things on it that you will be shooting with). And look for any micro movement and adjust accordingly until it doesn't do anything when you pick it up from the table.

I'd go with the Neweer since there are more reviews and recent links in the description but also make sure to check out Yelangu reviews as well - as I personally have not used the Yelangu but from the pictures it looks almost identical (probably even coming out of the same manufacturer)

Once you get it balanced, how do you keep it from turning around while you're holding it? Mine wants to slowly rotate to the left.

Jessica if it turns left or right is because you use both hands one to keep balance and other hand to pick what direction to face.. after u have it balanced so it dont tilt

also how on earth do i get the other screw i dont use off the base plate?
@BVCCo77 жыл бұрын
not sure about the low shots since I mostly do shoulder height tracking shots - but perhaps flip it so the weights are at the top and the camera is on the bottom - so then you'll need to flip the video in post; as for the other screw simply just push the screw to the wider hole and it come out. best of luck

Picked this up recently and it's interesting to work with. I've been trying it with a DSLR and a lightweight video camera (about 300g). Need more time to practice balancing it. How do you stop/start the stablizer rotating left/right? For example, I'm walking and aiming forward and the stablizer starts turning off to the side, or I'm trying to walk 180 around someone keeping the camera on them but the camera doesn't keep up and ends up pointing back at me. Let me guess, the answer is balance :D

Hi, great video! I am using the same exact stabilizer with the Canon T3i, I have it stabilized to where I pick it up and it doesn't move or lean at all, but soon as I start walking it sways all different directions.. Any advice? I promise its stabilized, but someone told me its my lens thats the issue, I have the 18-55 kit lens and 50mm 1.8. Any advice? I am desperate!
@BVCCo77 жыл бұрын
Use two fingers to guide it and make sure your movement when you move it is fluid - as you can't make sharp turns - if it still wobbles and sway I would go against you and say it's not stabilized yet

BVC Co. thank you I will try practicing with it!

Tia Trione i have the same camera and lense and had the same issue. I balanced it and when I walked forward, my camera began to turn left or right. I used my fingers to tap the stabilizer guide it but it still couldn't get smooth shots
@TWgamerbuilder7 жыл бұрын
if i just use the same camera and lens all the time wont i not have to stabilize this every ti,e I use it?
@BVCCo77 жыл бұрын
yes you do - because people often forget metal expands and contracts depending on weather but only micro adjustments. but to simplify your answer - not really once you have it properly stabilized but may need micro adjustments
@BigHuggs7 жыл бұрын
Dude nice vid and does what it is suppose to do. Genuine. Did it have the arco base plate?
@BVCCo77 жыл бұрын
tedious to adjust but once you have it properly aligned - it does the job; but be aware it only comes with 1 1/8th screw so if you lose it.. you're screwed pun intended.
@BigHuggs7 жыл бұрын
You mean tedious to attach to the bottom of your camera? Doesn't it have a big fat screw on the bottom that you can tighten with a coin for example?
@BVCCo77 жыл бұрын
Yes but in terms of once proper alignment but if you add attachments such as a shotgun mic, take of your straps, you'll have to re-adjust the base plate

I just watched your video again to set up my steadycam, which arrived yesterday. Your video helped me a lot! :) I also realised, having a steadycam is totally worth it - especially, if I want to film with my canon 50mm 1.8, which has no image stabilization (just like my camera). So having the steadycam helps me a lot! Also I realised, how heavy this steadycam is 😅 I guess, I'll just have to deal with it and make my arms stronger 😂💪
