great video and a beautiful painting as usual. That bristle brush techniques looks like it would be great to make a distant horizon. Like with a sunset horizon where it is just a dark blues and grays. pulling up toward the sky. I would love for you to do a sunset/dusk style. I have watched your 4 skies video but would love to see a full on painting

Thanks for bringing her up. Same for me. I bought her book and video, and obviously admire her work, but also found her very difficult to follow. In fact, I lost interest fairly quickly, but have kept telling myself I’m going to try again some day. I’m sure she has students who are very successful in following her, but I ended up feeling like I was never going to be successful with watercolor. Steve has given me hope!

I'm glad to read this. I thought maybe I'm the only one that had a disability following her. I would try my best to watch the video and do exactly what she did. It never came out right and my paintings SUCKED. They went into my scrap paper pile. Steve's way makes sense and he is easy to follow. I've been a fan now for a couple of years.

So, making the shadows on the leaves is just a shadowy color the same as the leaf
@mindofwatercolor5 жыл бұрын
Pretty much yes. Light color can play a part and shadows are often cooler but usually it's just a darker version of the color of the object.

"Being positive won't guarantee you'll succeed. But being negative will guarantee you won't." Just kidding. I don’t remember who said that, but it doesn't apply in this case. It is what a philosopher would call "a problem with equivocation." The word "negative" is used in two different senses. Don't ask me how I know that. Thank you for the lesson. As always you took the time to explain the technique in a way that is easy to understand.

I'm fairly new at watercolor, but could you use masking fluid over the orangey leaves to paint the green background? I'd be afraid I'd accidentally get some green on part that was supposed to stay orange. I've only used masking fluid once, and I got upset because it tore the paper, so I'm afraid to use it again. It ruined that painting.
@mindofwatercolor6 жыл бұрын
You can but masking will lift some of the color.
