This is great. No superfluous edits, no overbearing music. Very interesting stuff - especially the detail about his process and what led him to photographing landscapes, as well as the mine in Wales. Lovely bit of context to the work when you realize the significance of the place. Does anyone know the name of the documentary he's talking about?

I've watched and re-watched this tens of times. Robin is such an inspiration. Currently trying to emulate and reference his work in New Zealand. His voice on our current relationships with nature is just on point. Thanks for making this video

I love when he talks about people wanting so badly to travel without exploring where they live. I am 28 and just now started traveling internationally after I spent so much time exploring where I live now. No matter where I go, the Midwest will always hold a sense of magic for me. I absolutely love this series!

George this is one of the best videos you've done - Robin's explanation of his process is so clear and insightful. Nothing overwrought or self congratulatory, but a tribute to the hard work that goes into a body of work. Surely Jem Southam would be a great follow on from this? Or perhaps Iain Sarjeant of Another Place and how he selects and works with emerging photographers.

I loved this, I'm not sure if I've ever commented on your videos because they sort of feel more like a doc than a youtube video, but this was fenomenal. I hope you love what you do, because everyone loves to watch it and I hope there's lots more to come.

this is an awesome interview video. I wish he chatted a bit more about why he found the story-telling in the mines weren't working as photos, and how he felt dance really elevated the story to where he wanted it to be. It would be awesome if you interviewed Mustafah Abdulaziz or Daniel P. Shea!

the whole interview has that lovely chatty vibe, perfectly executed as always, and thanks to Robin for the very much wise words; I wanted to suggest a 'in conversation' with the master himself Sugimoto but I'll go with an italian touch and say Andrea Calabresi (he's also a teacher and a darkroom printer, maybe his pedagogic touch could be a nice twist to the series)

Where he's right about saying that "photography has become so much easier" -- and therefore more people are doing it, it certainly has produced a higher drive to excellence as the competition isn't necessarily tougher, but there's just more people doing similar things.

My suggestion would be Danish artist Lasse Hoile. He has made some of the best and most surreal artwork for great musical acts, most notably Porcupine Tree. The artwork for their albums Deadwing, In Absentia, Fear of a Blank Planet & The Incident as well as his work with Steven Wilson is simply amazing. I buy the deluxe versions of the albums he's involved with so I can get the books full of his surreal work. Hugely influenced by Francis Bacon. He should be way more known about than he is. Definitely check out his work George.

An idea I think would be nice to see as a video someday is a series of brief interviews with photographers who aren't known, the ones who work a fryer by day and peruse the streets after their shifts to find interesting things to capture. The ones who are seen digging through bins at second hand shops and antique malls for a chance to find a new lens or camera to go out and use to make photos with. Asking them the hard question. Why take a photo? Why a photo of the things they photograph, and is there a sort of unspoken creed amongst them? These are the questions that aren't asked. Therefore there are no answers.
