Man the writers had SOOOOO much fun with the alternate universe episodes of DS9. It shows through the hilarity of the dialogue. I dunno why, but Worf just makes for the perfect comedic villain with his beetle snuff addiction and such. It juxtaposes how heroic of a character he is in the Prime Universe.

As a secondary note, this is why the Defiant could hammer most ships outside of the Federation and the Borg. Its too damn fast, too damn small, and hits just way too damn hard. Its, honestly, far overpowered for a Starfleet ship which makes it a fantastic vessel to have in a fight. I honestly believe its the ship that helped break Star Trek away from the "Submarine Battle" situations in had in most other fights. Too bad after it people took it too far with the Abrams Trek. :-P

Garak had some amazing lines. My favorites are he and Quark discussing the insidiousness of root beer and his inability to make sense of "Julius Caesar" Apparently on Cardassia, once you achieve great power, the first thing you do is kill off your friends instead of letting them plot against you.

I still love this scene. Yeah, it's the Mirror Universe, but it's one of the few times we really get to see what the Defiant is capable of. In a lopsided battle like this one, anything short of a Nova or a Galaxy Class should have been blown out of space. Instead, the Defiant rips the Negh'var a new one. Also one of the only times we see the Defiant's dorsal phaser strip in action.

Vs the negh var, the only federation ships that would be able to go head to head with that and come out on top would be the Lakota or a sovereign. Beyond that the refit galaxy class, steamrunner, akira and intrepid classes could probably damage it but the key to victory here was speed and outmanoeuvring the neghvar, so ironically the nova would probably do alright given it's size.

For years I've been trying to figure out why Starfleet ships use so much high grade explodium in the bridge panels. Watching this Klingon ship in action I think I understand. While the Starfleet ship is plagued by exploding panels and conduits, the Klingon ship is equally plagued by being built with actual firewood in its panels and loosely connected steel pipes overhead. I think I'll stick with the explodium.

It's ironic the Klingons developed the Negh'var class ''dreadnought'' to counter the Romulans own behemoth ''dreadnought'' style ship, the D'deridex. Before the Dominion war officially began and the Romulans tried to strike the Dominion preemptively with a cloaked fleet of D'deridex ships they learned very quickly that small, manueverable, fast ships could overwhelm larger ''dreadnaught'' style ships such as the D'deridex , much like how the Defiant was able to cripple even the Negh'var. Granted the Defiant is an extremely versatile and heavy hitting ship for it's size. The Klingons should've focused on upgrading their birds of prey or better yet building a new small, manueverable, fast and heavy hitting ship similar to the Defiant but with the tried and tested base design of the bird of prey. IDK that's just my opinion. I understand people like the idea of a massive, heavily armed ship that's designed to strike fear into other battleships, i personally think it's impractical and unnecessarily expensive. The best way to put such a bulky and unflexible ship to use effectively is to have it supported by a small fleet/half dozen birds of prey engaging smaller vessels and giving the dreadnought enough breathing room to manuever into position so it can best use it's enormous firepower as intended.

Wow, the ship scaling for this episode was all over the place. I know the mirror universe Negh'var was supposed to be over twice the size as it's counterpart, but that Peregrine fighter was almost the size of the Defiant. Makes me wonder if the Mirror Defiant is actually built smaller given how fast they built it.
@SoranoGuardias5 жыл бұрын
The Peregrine-class has several sizes. The Val Jean had 40 crew onboard when it was pulled into the Delta quadrant
@Clenched.Cheeks3 жыл бұрын
Not to mention scaling for visual impressions is more important than realism. If it's a two seater- fighter, you will never see that ship per scale against an 1800 m long ship. That's why scaling is off in EVERY battle scene in DS9, it's designed to have an impact.
@tbeller802 жыл бұрын
@@Clenched.Cheeks there was a Star Wars blogger who loved to complain that every Star Trek battle shows ships fighting that have weapons that can effectively hit targets thousands of kilometers away, but they're always close to point blank range. Especially on DS9.

The Neg Var for this universe was bigger because of the same reason a Star Destroyer is huge, without major super powers to compete with like the Federation or Romulans, and only Rebels to crush it's logical you want a daunting ship to scare the little fighters into submission and if they refuse, level the planet or station. The Galor is similar in size to the Prime NegVar

Valiant Wrestling Federation Yes, I remember that much. But the destruction of Kronos should have set the Klingons back too far to be in a position to capitalize on Terran weakness, even in tandem with the Cardassians-who should have been so far ahead of the Klingons at that point that they might as well do what they did on their own.

Is it just me, or does the Defiant's size change multiple times in this battle scene? First it seems to be the same size as a Bird of Prey (too big) then it seems to be even smaller than the Negh'Var's bridge (too small).

I've never quite understood how you can miss with a weapon that moves at the speed of light and is targeted using a computer.
@domoncar67827 жыл бұрын
Aiming. You may shoot your projectile at the speed of light (in this case, the projectiles are photons), but the turrets that will aim your laser at the target will still need to correctly track and target the vessel. If you need to swat down an enemy that is close by, then your turrets need to have a high tracking speed (bigger arc), which in turn means that the turret houses a smaller, less heavier gun. Which means lesser fire power, which might be useless against heavily fortified enemies. A heavier gun has slow turrets to aim it, because it is heavier, and because only a slower turret can actually aim properly (inertia, if you provide sudden acceleration, then the momentum will be higher and thus stopping at the right place would be much much more difficult, thus inaccurate. So actually your bigger heavier guns are useful only against long range big targets. This is shown in the episode as by getting closer and then circling the bigger ship Sisko essentially never allows the ship track him with their weapons.
@carcajou10187 жыл бұрын
Because it's a plot devices and Sisko can't die nothing more. Klingons are as advanced as the Federation or any major species in the show. That mirror Negh'var should have destroy it prettily easily. An escort ship can't beat a Battleship/Dreadnought.
@carcajou10187 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter what it was build for. In First Contact it was almost destroyed, had not the Enterprise-E come to save it. People really tend to exagerate it, they saw a mighty powerful ship, no doubt it is still overall it would be rank as a cruiser in a frame of an escort vessel.
