Another big event occurred in 1492... Anyone? End of the Reconquista, Spain had completely reclaimed the Iberian peninsula. Also, a major expulsion of the Jewish population of Catholic controlled territory occurred in Spain in 1492, splitting the Iberian Jews into three distinctive groups: the ones that left, the ones that stayed by conversion, and the ones that stayed by pretending to convert. Just thought I'd mention other big Spanish events in that infamous year.

Haiti fun fact: noted French author Alexandre Dumas who wrote The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo was the son of Haitian Thomas Alexandre Davy de la Paileterie who was born in Haiti the son of a slave woman and her aristocrat planter owner. Thomas' father took him to France as a boy, gave him an aristocrat upbringing and education, he became a noted swordsman, went to France's elite military academy L'Ecole Militaire, then joined the French army as a private under his mother's surname of Dumas. He served splendidly in several important Napoleonic Wars battles, at one point commanded Europe's first black regiment the Americas Legion (named because its members were blacks from France's colonies in the Americas). He eventually rose to the rank of General-in-Chief of the French Army of the Alps commanding more than 50,000 men. The leader of the Polish Legion sent to Haiti was a Polish General Wladislaw Jablonownski, born to a white English noblewoman and a black man. He was raised as a son by his mother's husband, a Polish aristocrat, sent to the French military academy L'Ecole Militaire where he was a classmate of Napoleon, then joined the French army and eventually given charge of the Polish Legion. He volunteered to go to Haiti, but died of yellow fever shortly after arrival.

In 9:02 You have made a strong mistake when you state: "Toussaint Louverture took over the east part of the island in freeing all the slaves" Not correct. The treaty of Basel was in place during the period 1795 to 1809, in which the east side of the island, what is known today as Santo Domingo was given to the Spanish by French empire to regain the Spanish providence of Gipuzkoa in the north of Spain invaded the French. Toussaint nor the Haitians never took over the east side of the island for long before 1822 year in which we finally had the 3rd Haitian invasion. We expelled the haitians in 1844 and declared a Republic after the oppression and enslavery of the Haitians towards the Dominican people. After the Dominican declaration of independance in 1844 Haiti tried to invade 37 times and fail miserably every single time. Haitians towards Dominicans were oppressors and tirans at the time and the whole Haitian "free of santo domingo slaves" was a justification to enslave and exploit Dominicans to pay the debt they had with France and keep European rule out of the side of the island that they invaded.

Hello, I'm originally from Ohio a descendant of Free People of Color from Kentucky. My updated 2020 23&me results show a Haiti connection and I agree with my 2020 Ancestry.com updates as well. So, through my tireless research, DNA testing, court documentation etc, I have been able to determine my pre colonial history to early America probably as early as 1600. We are a so called African American family however it's very hard to figure this out because of my high 40% European and 60% African mixture. Basically I'm a descendant of Indigenous people who became Indentured servants in the colonial Chesapeake Virginia area that were moved into Maryland when Maryland became a colony. However I'm a little bit confused because, I definitely see a connection to the Louisiana creole people of Grand Coteau, St. Landry Parish Louisiana. My mother haplogroup is L3e1e (East Africa) and her brother's show Ethiopian, Middle Eastern and Indigenous North America ancestry... my father's haplogroup is E-m4254 (East Africa) as well. My daughter DNA results has Indigenous North America and I have Malta... which is tiny island not too far from North Africa in the Mediterranean Sea.

The maps you used are out of whack, the western half of the Island was firmly under Spanish control after the french defeat at Palo Hincado which happened in 1808 and even before that the western side was under the direct rule of France from 1795 to 1809, the Empire, Kingdom and Republic of Haiti were declared only on the EASTER side of the island. The Invasion of the western side of the island properly occurred in 1821 when the forces led by Jean Pierre Boyer invaded the Republic of Spanish Haiti, which had been declared on December 1, 1821

Good video. You could easily have gone into the far-reaching consequences of the revolution for other world powers. Had the French not lost this lynchpin and highly profitable colony, then the Louisiana purchase would likely never have happened. While colonialism would eventually fall over the course of time, it is likely we'd see a very different USA having had their expansion westward halted. We could easily see the US never unified into the massive country it is now. Rather, there would be a French-speaking nation(s) in the middle, and possibly Spanish-speaking nations on the west coast. Either that or there would be different sets of wars to decide things. The eventual formation of the US as we know it is entirely dependent on the Haitian Revolution, and, by extension, the fate of huge political events after it such as the world wars. Imagine The US divided into 4 parts or so, maybe pieces of it being under Mexican and Canadian contol, and a French speaking nation in the old Louisiana territory, and a US that covered only up to the old Louisiana Territory... different imigration policies between them, and potentially taking different sides in the later World Wars. The Haitian Revolution made the world as it is now.

Interesting you skept the part of the history in which Haitians invaded Dominican Republic in 1822 for 22 straight years replacing white slavery dominatory system for Haitian slavery dominatory system which according to Historians was: "oppressing the Dominican population with the same strenght and brutality the Haitians used to kill more than 30,000 whites in their revolution". Which encouraged Dominicans to revolt and obtain independence from Haiti in 1844. Yes there is a big history of unification of the island. The Haitians invaded DR for 22 long difficult years of abuses and crimes. The same whites did to them they were doing to Dominicans. As a consequence the Dominican Republic was declared in rebellion to the Haitian mistreatment. Haitians in 1844, 1854, 1857 and 1858 under Faustine Soulouque kept invaded the country until was forced by Dominicans to drop their purposes and recognize the new Republic. MANY HAITIANS IN POWER POSITIONS STILL BELIEVE DR ITS THEIRS. Dominicans are very aware of it and honestly very ready to dissolve those intentions by force if necessary.

Moi Moi I used to have some doubts that the history was an indoctrination of elite dominicans yo make the population hate Haiti. But I have accounts and narratives written at the time from people who live in the era. It is not a surprise: the Haitian revolution was bloodied and 30, 000 whites well killed, France imposed a debt to the Haitians for this killing, all the Haitian leaders of the 19 century were self proclaimed emperors....etc. too many sources and signs of accuracy over the Haitian Dominican debate.

contrary to popular belief the so-called African American West Indie Haitian Latino or Native American are all or part of the 12 tribes of Israel... a lot of historians like to refer to blacks in america as Africans. but if one would do their research you would find out that we fled to Africa.. so originally our people are not native of Africa.. and this is a fact that the modern African know as well ,,because as an African American, if we travel to the continent Africa they dont accept us as Africans ,,this is because we are Israelites and they know it... the book of Deuteronomy chapter 28 clearly describes who the children of Israel are and the condition in which they would be in. which nation of people fits those descriptions to a T

in 11:03 you made another mistake. lool In 1805 the Haitians tried to invaded but they couldnt invaded the east side, todays santo domingo, Santo Domingo was in France control from 1795 - 1809 until the "Batalla de Palo Hincado" that we expelled the France from Santo Domingo. Dessalines and Toussaint FAILED MISSERABLY in invading Santo Domingo. It was until 1822 when Boyer INVADED Santo Domingo and Haitians ruled like tyrans for 22 years.

Such an interesting subject. Really interesting part of history. That's sadly forgotten or overlooked in school. Sadly the quality of this whole video was poor.
