As someone quite knowledgeable, on both franchises, I feel something of a need to provide a dissection of this battle for the uninitiated. As a prelude to the dissection, I must clarify that I probably have only a couple hundred hours invested into the Sonic franchise, while I have *easily* invested more than 10,000 hours into Undertale, provided that you count AUs and fanfictions, and as such, I am much more likely to miss or incorrectly interpret anything related to the Sonic side of the the battle than the Undertale side. With that out of the way, the dissection can commence. "Put up your dukes, I didn't come up for puzzles" This line plays into the combative aspect of both characters, and also acknowledges that Knuckles would likely not have much interest in the puzzle-based aspects in Undertale, considering his declining mental faculties in his portrayals since his initial reveal. "I'll leave you house in flames again, knock knock, it's Knuckles" More violence bars, also referencing how Undyne's house gets accidentally burnt in the true pacifist route of Undertale. "Since you have trouble cooking, here's how I'll manage: Scramble Eggman for my breakfast, and for lunch a Knuckles sandwich" This line references how Undyne does have a hard time in the culinary arts, and also has a double meaning wherein Knuckles implies she would be bad at word-forgery, which is often referred to as 'cooking'. The rest of the line is quite obvious, what with Eggman being a recurring villain in the Sonic series and a 'Knuckles sandwich' being a play on his name and call to battle. "Your king's child died so he went and increased it sevenfold. Now he's got you getting gold from kids like Chaos emeralds." King Asgore, distraught at his son's death, ordered that all human children to accidentally enter the Underground would be killed and have their souls brought to him. He would need 7 in total to functionally become a god. Undyne, as the leader of the Royal Guard, was obligated to follow this decree. This line also draws a comparison between the Chaos Emeralds and 7 Souls, which, in fairness, they _are_ both powerful colorful plot McGuffins. "Collecting gold, Ebott's hole could fit my treasure trove" For a human to enter the Underground, they must fall in a very deep hole in mount Ebott. This line is basically Knuckles saying that he's so rich that he'd need the entire depth of the hole through Mount Ebott to store his money. "Eyes on the prize while, you got less perception than a ten year old" This is Knuckles referencing how, in the game, the main character (canonically named Frisk) often dodges Undyne. We don't know Frisk's age, but they are clearly quite young. This line is basically saying that you would think the leader of the Royal Guard wouldn't allow a child to keep sneaking past them. "You lead Alphys on, I'm the alpha lead with iron fists" The second part of the bar is a basic bragging bar. The first part references the relationship between Undyne and her crush/girlfriend, depending on the route you go through. I will say this bar doesn't really hit for me, since Undyne never really 'lead Alphys on', she was just oblivious to her emotions. "You fuck a royal scientist, I royally fuck up scientists" The second part of the bar references Knuckles' rivalry with Eggman, while the first part references the relationship between Alphys and Undyne. Again this bar doesn't really hit for me, since there's no actual diss, just a mild brag. "Once you've fallen down, you'll need more than a spear repairing kit" In Undertale, if a monster has 'Fallen Down', it means they're in a coma that will eventually lead to death. In the true pacifist route, you take Alphys on a faux-date out of misunderstanding, and all the gifts she gives you are clearly things she planned to give to Undyne if they went on a date, including a spear repairing kit. "Cause you two match together 'bout as well as her experiments" This references the experiments of Alphys. She took monster's who had 'Fallen Down', and injected them with 'Determination' (the force that allows the player to save and load). The problem is, monsters weren't built to handle 'Determination', so, while it did awaken them from their comas, it also caused them to liquify and fuse into horrid immortal semi-conscious amalgamates. This bar is basically saying that Undyne and Alphys' relationship works as well as Alphys' experiments did. I personally happen to disagree, since I think Alphys and Undyne have lovely chemistry (then again, maybe I'm just starved for wholesome fxf content), but I still appreciate the set-up and punchline of the bar. "Fought Asgore as a kid and all you did was miss him" Undyne, while she was young, sparred with the king of the monsters, Asgore, in hopes to beat him and join the Royal Guard. She failed to hit he even once, but Asgore respected the attempt and allowed her to join. "Flash forward and he bit the dust now all you do is miss him" This is a follow up to the last bar. If you play a route of Undertale where you kill Asgore but spare Undyne, you get an epilogue where Undyne has become queen of the monsters and talks about how much she misses Asgore. Further, monsters in Undertale turn into dust when they die, so Asgore 'bit the dust' in more ways than one. Also, considering the *very* obvious inspiration for the Mad Dummy fight, you can't possibly expect me to see a 'bit the dust' line in an Undertale battle and not think of JoJo. "I know you like to pour one out since it's what you get saved by" If you decide to run for Undyne instead of fight, you eventually reach the Hotlands where her fish biology causes her to collapse. You can then pour a cup of water on her head, rejuvenating her, at which point she'll get up and walk away. "So I'm spilling the tea, a golden flower at your gravesite" This references how, in Undertale, gold flowers signify death and misery. For example, the burial site of Chara is absolutely covered in golden flowers, and Flowey, a primary antagonist in the game, is, himself, a golden flower. *I don't feel like explain the rest of the bars right now, so I'll probably get around to it some time tomorrow.*
