When dry firing, it is often suggested to literally remove any and all live ammo from the room you practice in.

Wow, glad no one got hurt in that story. Shows how easy one can get carried away and forget what they are doing.

Wow. So glad no one was injured in that ND. We had an ND on my public range last month. I wasn't there when it happened, but for 2 weeks afterwards, when you'd sign in to shoot, everyone had to watch the footage of it at the counter as a safety reminder. Basically the shooter had a jam, performed "Tap, Rack, Bang" to clear it, but he elevated the muzzle to look at the ejection port during "bang" & the round sailed into the ceiling.

That is why I always check the chamber more than once everytime I'm going to dry fire etc. When I used to have revolver, even after unloading it, I would still check again before dry firing, drawing, or doing some other drill at home. My redundancy saved me when I decided to check again and there was one round in there. I then realized what happened was that round bounced off of the grip and slid back in. I didn't even see it. The only way I knew that happened was because of that one story of the guy with the 357 in his bedroom. Stay safe and check chambers often.

Great vid. Thanks for sharing the story. I have a story that is not negligent discharge, but it is similar and real funny. It happened on the virgin trip to the range with my Mossy 930. I go to the indoor range. I got all the gear set up. The lighting at that range was very poor. I load the shells in the pipe of the 930. I shoot first shot, second shot, third shot and fourth shot doesn't fire. I look at the shell it did not load in the chamber. So I call the range master to help me. He comes looks at shotgun and gives me a smirky smile. He tells me " you loaded the shell backwards." We fought for about 3 minutes to get it out. I was sacred as hell that the round might go off. Now I take one of those flashlights that mount on the head so I can see better in low lighting conditions at the range, I use it to get set up and remove it when I shoot.

Great video. I just purchased my first shotgun and it’s a Benelli M4, like yours. However, I have no idea how to use it. A beginners tutorial would be appreciated. I will check out some more videos to see if it’s available. Thanks

i was clearing mud out of a semiauto trigger guard when duck hunting. Apparently when i tripped and fell a moment earlier, controlling my shotgun as I went down, the fall knocked the safety off. and mud got into the guard. I never checked it. I was walking to retrieve a duck and the safety was off and discharged to my left as i poked the mud away from the guard. My retriever was heeling as he should have been. Nothing damaged but the mud 6 feet in front of my dog. I know that oh F feeling and stunned disbelief. I saw it on my dogs face. Seriously though you cant be too careful. A fun day can turn into horror in a split second. Be careful is not enough of a warning.

A common mistake seems to be too few snap caps. Most of us just buy a couple in a pack, and that's not enough for the practice your friend engaged. As you see...he got lost in the exercise (as he should)...and forgot about his two snap limit. For firearms with limited magazine capacity, reloading under stress is a critical skill to develop, with the maximum number of caps (representing shells) the weapon normally holds. Dry firing alone is fine for pistols and AR's...but not shotguns. You need the tangible cap to physically develop the handling skill. They're also not that expensive...

That’s an extremely negligent discharge. He just did a very stupid thing. The idea is to be smart enough to not do dumb shit like that. I’m glad everyone was ok. Sounds like it was a reality check for the man.

That’s not a discharge that’s him putting in a live round and pulling the trigger. Love the M4 and I’ve got the civilian one because the one you have is law and military use with the justiciable stock

The correct way I was trained by LEO Instructor while I was a LEO is to feed the 12GA shell from the bottom and keep shotgun on target

Seems like too many steps to remember as far as loading shotgun for defense purposes. What about releasing a cartridge with the latch and just not loading it? This way you hear the bad guy and you rack it and load it.
@MD-mm1zv
@MD-mm1zv 3 жыл бұрын
This is the right way. The shotgun is loaded, but not chambered until you actually need it. No different than racking a pump, and any situation gives you time for that. Great point.

another thing to note is if you keep your M4 with the chamber empty no need for the cartridge latch just pull the trigger it has the same effect hammer drops and round come out the tube and then you rack it.

It seems a lot of these stories involve Snap Caps that's why I don't believe in using them , but to each their own , I'll just dry fire my guns the old fashioned way it hasn't hurt them yet.

Snap caps work good at the range for trigger squeeze drills. And other malfunction drills. At home they’re fine but damn. Remove all the live ammo from the room before practicing with them.

I did the same thing, only a 65" projection tv was the backstop. Somehow between the tv and the stand it was on it stopped the buckshot and I found the slug on the ground under the stand. :0 whoops

I clean/modify my firearms and practice in a "clean" space where NO live ammunition is EVER allowed. Outside of that space, ALL guns are ALWAYS loaded and are NEVER dry-fired. Segregating practice loads, such as "snap caps", laser loads, Simunition, etc is a 100% requirement and drills like tactical reload practice are ALWAYS conducted with inert loads painted hot pink. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be too careful. It is REALLY easy for us "experts" to do something stupid. Be strict.

Wait, do you have to hit the cartridge release when doing an emergency reload? Couldn't that be an issue?
@kstangent
@kstangent 4 жыл бұрын
No, if you are loading directly into the chamber, just release the bolt once you put the round in the chamber. Only when you load the magazine and want to activate it and release a round on the carrier would you need to hit the shell release. This allows you to manually eject a shell and load another type mid engagement without needing to put the new round in the magazine and cycle the action to feed it up that way.

If your wife tells you to surrender your permit and sell your guns. She's not a person I'd be married to. She sounds like a controlling chick. A supporting wife would help you fix the house and make sure you and the family are ok. I hope he didn't sell all his guns. Should've got rid of her first.

1.) Don't every dry fire. 2.) If you own snap-caps, throw them out.
@edmundcharles5278
@edmundcharles5278 7 ай бұрын
I am not sure that Agree with you on your points, since practicing with any unloaded firearm is the key to both understanding and mastering it, and snap caps are a safe way to dry fire a weapon while becoming familiar with its operation. The mistake of his friend was to ever have live ammo around a practice of the manual of arms. Once you are off the race, keep ammo and the firearm separate.
