Years ago I lived in a townhouse and had a neighbor whose cat would cry from inside her house all day while she was at work, and I eventually made an arrangement with her so her cat Kiwi could hang out with me and my dog Peanut all day while she was at work. One day she told me she was getting married and semi-hinted, "My fiancé is allergic to Kiwi so...." She didn't even finish the sentence before I offered to take her cat. - Kiwi lived with my dog Peanut and I for 8 very happy years.

Years ago the exact same thing happened to me. The neighbors cat kept coming to my house every single night and would sleep over. She’d leave in the morning and return every night just before dark. One day she stopped coming. I knocked on every door and eventually found her “home”. Found out from one of the roommates that her owners abused her. She wasn’t coming over anymore because they moved. I got the address from the roommate and filed an anonymous animal welfare check. Long story short the cat was confiscated and guess who adopted her and has given her the best life ever!!!! She’s the sweetest cat and loves her new life. That was 10 years ago.

This reminds me of how I met my cat. After my previous cat passed away at the ripe old age of 23, Shotgun and her previous family moved into the house across the street from mine. I gradually befriended her and eventually she started spending a lot of her time in my house. When her family had to move away not long later, my family and I were more than happy to take her in, and now she lives with us full time.

For a couple years--up until a few months ago!--I lived next door to a family with a cat named Rascal. He started coming over to watch me gardening. At some point I gave him some treats I had around to bring to my friend's cat and BOOM! I became his best friend. He'd often be sitting on the front steps when I got home from work, waiting for his snack. He also figured out that I ate later in the evening and would skulk around the backdoor and wait for the light to come on. I need to go back across town and pay him a visit!

There was a cat like this in my street, he ran up to me like a dog, I had never experienced that. He was full of so much love and me for him. The neighbour one day told another I know he visits me and its ok. One day I was away and it was thundering. I came home he had waited outside my door the whole time. I picked him up and he had got hit by a car. He had waited there probably all night for me and I wasnt home. My intution that night told me to go home. He died, he was possibly the most loving animal I had ever met, so special. We forget that all every living things needs is love and are seeking to belong to a place that feels like home.

I'm really emotional right now. I had a cat for 14 years, and it actually belonged to a neighbor who lived on a street perpendicular to ours. But he decided to come and live with us. Then, one day, the original owner happened to pass by and claimed that the cat belonged to her. I explained that he had been living with us for almost a year. She was incredibly understanding and said it was fine, as he had chosen us.

That happened to me. I adopted a cat from the shelter, had her a few months as inside only and one day she got out. I tried to find her but no luck. I can't remember how long after she got out, I was coming home from work and noticed a cat that looked like her at a house down the street. I stopped the car and talked to the guy who lives there. I said "that's my cat!" lol He said it was a male, mine was a female, so I said "ok". Then just last year we talked again and he said, "you know what, that actually is your cat. I took to the vet and they told me it's a female. I thought it was a neutered male. Do you want her back?" I said, "no, as long as she's happy and healthy here". He's the street's cat guy lol. She gets to be inside and outside, fed, etc. Inside only is much safer, though. He told me that another cat he was feeding got killed by dogs.

Two stories. My grandma had a grey cat named Florence that was so thrilled to see me every time we came to visit. It would sit in my lap all day and follow me around the house. I was a kid and I think it liked me for that. Second, there was a kitten in the tree out in my front yard when I went to work meowing. It was a black and white. It was still there when I came from work. I took him down and he was so grateful. He didn’t belong to anyone. I took him to vet and he had a fractured leg from a probable dog attack. We got him fixed up and adopted him, Named him Gibson because the bill for his vet care was the money I had planned to use on a new guitar, but I was more happy to have the cat.

It's possible that George may not have been receiving the emotional stimulations & affections that he's been craving for from his actual family. Since cats are exceptionally intelligent animals & usually quite selective with the company they keep, George therefore sought within the neighbourhood & thus found this neighbour & her dad, both of which, satisfy his every emotional needs. I believe there's nothing more rewarding than an animal, here particularly is a cat, who specifically chose them from the entire neighbourhood to be his permanent feline companions.❤😻❤

Ppl hang on to the idea that cats are like plushies. Some cats can't stay inside, it's terrible for them. Some outdoor places are not dangerous. The world is big, learn more about it before saying such things. George looks amazingly well fed and taken care off when he comes to the neighbours. This looks like a peaceful place. Cats need freedom too you know? Least you can do is leash them.

@@lilbrother45 One of my cats is this black feral I named Miss Midnight the Feral. She was born in a feral colony and lived her first three years as a happy member of said feral colony. She absolutely HATED being inside. That changed when she had kittens that needed my help and I had to take them (she knew I would help them so she let me). I caught Miss Midnight the Feral because she was looking for them. When she saw that I still had them, she decided she would be ok with raising them inside. I promised her that after she got fixed, she could go back outside if she wanted, all she had to do was ask. While she was raising them, she didn't even give a thought to the freedom she no longer had. About 8 months later she finally got fixed (thank the pandemic). Her "Gotcha day" is in April, it was in 2020. She's become "Miss Midnight the Spoilt Feral Queen of the Cat Tree". And, remember the promise I made to her to let her out if she wanted? She never took me up on it. If I give her attention and she wants to rub her face on my hand, if it's too far, she'll reach out and try to pull on it so she can rub her face on my hand. Her daughter, Miss Spots was born outside but she never became feral. One day, in August 2020, Miss Spots decided she wanted to live inside, too.

I mean, it depends on the cat. Some cats are snuggly like this and are love-starved. My ginger boy is exactly like George, he loves cuddles SO much, and he also visits the next door neighbors-- though he's not as bad as George because he gets a lot of attention/affection from me as I work from home and so he seeks me out all the time. But when we let him out to pee in the morning, he visits the neighbors sometimes because they will fawn over him and give him pets and hugs, so he hangs out with them for about 15 minutes till him or they get bored, then comes back in to stay with us all day. We GPS him and never let him out late or overnight though. We know where he is all the time. We have wondered why our boy is so affectionate, we're not sure because he was a rescue, if he was removed from his mother too young or what. But he loves being with people ALL the time and rarely gets overstimulated from human interaction.

I used to have a cat that we knew would go to other people's houses and get fed. We asked a few neighbors if they ever see a black cat because he would be gone for a few days at a time. He literally had like 4 or 5 "homes". Coolest cat I've ever had too.

The oldest cat that I ever had the pleasure of keeping was actually originally one of my neighbors. He used to come over and hang out at our house every single day. My house was this two-story house with a really large deck that wrapped around it; the cat would climb up a tree and then onto the roof to get in through my room's balcony at night. Eventually when I moved, the neighbor just told me to take the cat because at that point he was more my cat than theirs. His name was heathcliff, he was a black cat and he lived until he was 24 years old. He was solidly an outdoor cat until I moved which is why I would take him for walks around the neighborhood. At first we used a leash and then eventually we didn't need it anymore. Even during his final days he had me take him for a walk.

I love cats, they all have their own personalities. Some are friendly like George but some want nothing to do with people. He reminds me of my old childhood cat Oreo, he was my best friend but his mom and sister hated me.

I had a childhood cat named Oreo as well! We adopted her from our neighbor, along with her sister Muddy. Oreo was a black and white shorthair and Muddy was a longhair mix of all different browns. They looked so different but came from the same litter. We lived way out in the country so they were indoor/outdoor cats and I’m sure they went back over to my neighbor’s house to visit their mom lol.

@@hhin It’s really not up to the cat to decide if it should be let outside to roam a neighborhood or not. If you cherish your cat, YOU will decide to make it a “indoor only” kitty and keep it safe and protected. Believe me, it will be just as happy living inside once it gets used to it…OR maybe just don’t EVER let it outside at all when you first get it, then it will not have to get used to living indoors. And yes, George is the sweetest boy, looking for love and affection from neighbors because obviously he’s not getting the attention he craves from his owners. 🐾🐾😻

Yes, I feel that is exactly what George is wanting. We had a neighbor's amazing brown Labrador Retriever come and see us daily and spend all summer days with us in southcentral Alaska. We would send him home at night, but he would sneek back and sleep in the yard. During the winter he would go home and we didn't see him until the next summer. After 2nd summer, my husband asked the neighbor if we could keep him. His answer was YES. We have happily been Chip's owner ever since. Animals know the people they want to be with. We are grateful 💗

Over 4 billion birds are needlessly killed by free roaming domestic cats in the US annually, directly leading to many being under threat of extinction. Cat owners who let them roam freely also have never seen a cat run over before, as I have in my former pet rescue work. They don’t care about their pet’s safety, the safety of the native species, or about adding to the stray population. We need laws in place to require all cats outdoors be on a leash or in a secured yard with cat proof fencing. If you disagree with that, you are part of the problem and have zero business owning pets.

Years ago we lived in the country, and a momma car came in the driveway and we petted her and she would come over all the time. Since she was pregnant I made sure she was fed. And I came home one day and she wasn’t pregnant so I asked her momma where are your babies?? And I didn’t see her for a week or so. Then one morning I woke up to noises out on the deck, I opened the door and she had brought all her kittens, to show me them🤣she was so proud of them.
