That music takes me right back. Neighbours should commission an orchestral soundtrack composition again, but they have changed the show so dramatically that it would probably be laughed at these days unfortunately.

I remember seeing this on BBC1 back in 1995 I think and considering I was only 8 years old at the time, this was a quite shocking scene to watch when you’re so young. You can understand having the memory block when your own mum during the night has just fallen her death. The character did have her really annoying moments particularly during the last year when she did all these really insane thing’s

This brings back memories. Was it really back in 1994. Doesn't seem that long ago. I remember the scene in the hospital when Phillip Martin shouted 'no' the moment Julie passed away. Neighbours had some great characters in those days.

And yet they still really grieved for Julie. She wasn’t all bad. Just towards the end she had a breakdown and was unbearable to live with. They should have got her professional help. Her death was on her family for letting her down.

Exactly. The narrative was Philip was all innocent and Helen constantly taking his side over her own Granddaughter.. I thought Helen’s reaction to her death was strange.. almost like she didn’t care.

@@thomaslodge8990 yeah, l agree.. Helen's reaction to Julie's death was horrible. It was written & played out more like Philip was her grandson with Julie just being his crazy, overbearing wife. I was really disappointed. Also how many of Philip's wives had to go crazy & die before people in that street start getting suspicious about him? Do we know if Ruth is still alive?

By the time Julie was killed off, both the characters on the show as well as viewers watching the series shed few tears over her demise. That's because the writers over time had turned Julie from a loving wife and mother to a whining, self pity excuse of a woman who got on people's nerves and wore their patience out. Instead of feeling grief, everyone (audiences included) felt relief that she was gone.

Tom K - I found Julie unbearable in the later stages of her time on the show. I blame that on the writers. In much the same way that Pauline became on Eastenders when she left. A woman who had become a misery to all those around her

Her step daughter left her to die in agony after she fell off the roof. Debbie should have been thrown into jail for that but instead she got a hug from Helen.

Bethfromwigan - Yes she was, although it was actually impossible: Julie and Philip left in 1985, with Philip permanently paralyzed after a car crash. They then returned seven years later with an eight-year-old daughter and Philip without as much as a limp! 🤣
