That applies to the BBC version and possibly some European broadcasts. The original Australian broadcasts had the Ten ident shown over that piece of music (the Grundy logo preceded the Ten ident in Australia)

In 2013 they had a competition to find a new singer to sing the Neighbours theme- a few versions were trialled and aired; ultimately the powers that be decided they liked Daniel and Stephanie the best. But yes it was awful- the versions on either side were much better

The Janine Maunder version is the one I remember from my childhood in 2006 on TV2. While I wasn't really into the show, I still know which theme song I heard. And it definitely wasn't any of the other ones. I honestly didn't even know there were other ones. Aside from the Sandra DeJong version.

Was at its prime in the days of Mrs Mangel, Jane, Madge, Dr Clive, Des, Daphne, Eileen, Helen, Jim, Scott, Charlene, Shane and the rest in the mid 80s and the plots were better. Who remembers when they went to search for Mrs Mangels's body in her back garden, when Charlene was terrorised in the caravan she was living in, Mrs Mangel falling off the ladder and loosing her memory, etc?

I agree with everyone on here that the best 2 versions of the theme are Barry 1985 - 1989, and Janinie 2002 - 2007 which looking at all the comments on here seem to also coincide with the best 2 era's of the show. Nothing since for me is as good as those 2 and if I had to push for one it would be Janine's.

Heard Bonnie's theme the first time watching Neighbours. Quite good, but my favorite one's the 2002-07 theme, great voice and spanning a lot of good stories. The original feels much suited for a full-length song than a theme.

Barry Crocker (Both versions): Nostalgic, his vocals are booming! Greg Hind: Not as booming to Barry Crocker's version, but at least his singing is really wonderful, but who could blame the sax? It's just the 90s! Paul Norton and Wendy Stapleton: Decent, but they're trying it too much for a mix on Greg's version and not themselves. Janine Maunder: Very sweet tone with her wonderful singing especially with 2000s standards, they should've kept this one. Sandra DeJong: her singing is wonderful for a decent replacement on Janine, the guitar solo is really the late 2000s feel. Daniel Boys and Stephanie Angelini: Oh dear god, awful and very bland singing... you could see why everyone hates this version when they first saw it. Garth Ploog: Although tries a bit hard on Sandra DeJong, but very fantastic replacement of these 2. Bonnie Anderson: Her singing is the best and very cooling for a tone to a bad year, sad that her theme tune is the very last for Neighbours since their cancellation this year.

The original theme is the best by far, but the one I like most from my era is 2003, it's so good.... over the years there have been theme tunes to make you feel proud to be a fan, and theme tunes to make you feel embarrassed to be a fan & have me reaching for the remote control to turn it down because my parents would say I was watching a childish show. The personal best for me is 1985-1989 - because that's when I was glued to watching Daph, Des, Helen, Jim, Paul, Gail, Max, Maria, Mrs Mangel, Jane, Scott, Charlene, Julie, Eileen, Madge, Henry, Clive, Danny, Shane, and so on. I was young and optimistic - and so was the show. Unforgettable. Lovely to see Des and Jane marry for the 35th anniversary. I tuned in specially.

The 1992-1998 is my favorite Neighbours theme tune as it's the one i'm most familiar with and being so detailed. The 1994-1998 revision of it is actually an edit of the closing theme tune. The others are good but the 2013-2014 theme tune lets not go there.

Yes indeed! It was a disgrace initially (a bit like Eastenders jazzy version) though very much of the era. However, it's now the one I remember most as it probably coincides with the time I watched the show most. My partner and I are 41 and if we ever hum or sing the tune it's the version we relate to the most. I have to say that Janine Maunder's version beats them all hands down. I hadn't heard it before the finale and it's brilliant.

Everything up to 2007, acceptable, but of course I'm a purist just like many others and I lean towards Barry Crocker's rendition too. However, once 2007 hits, the quality of the theme music takes a massive nosedive. The version sung by the DeJong girl is an abomination. It probably reflects the demographics of the people watching at those times but my goodness it stinks regardless. Happily, the version by the Bloog lad, I think that's his name, the pretty boy, some melodic charm found it's way back into the song for that one, I'll give it the seal of 'Doesn't suck'. I understand things will never go back to the Barry Crocker original, this is about as close as it will get in the current culture, so fine. The final one, meh, it goes back to some kind of easy-listening accoustic band sound, with some singer who sounds like she is trying so hard to be an American soul diva while singing the theme tune to this most Australian television institution. Whatever. But at least it's staying in the general area of melody with the odd nice chord progression.
