Nobody would even know about what Neil commented on Howard's nonsense, if Howard didnt complain about it on JRE years later. What someone tells you in private about specific ideas you actually gave him to read, could never be an attack. You could even argue, that deGrasse Tyson tried to Howard a favor: Dont publish this any further, it's proven absurdity, you're making a fool of yourself. @a_lacan68706 ай бұрын
They're conflating the scientific process, scientific theories, and hypotheses, which are all related but distinct concepts. And scientific theories aren't typically completely disproven; instead, they evolve and become more refined with new evidence. So, suggesting that this process is flawed or backward reflects a misunderstanding of how science progresses. Additionally, comparing what we know about the Earth (learned over centuries) to what we know about COVID-19 (studied for a few years) isn't reasonable because we've had much more time to study the Earth in detail.

I explained this to my 2nd grader.....with Legos. Multiplication is just a way to condensed addition into a more manageable form. So 3+3 is the same as 2x3. 12x12 is easier to write than 12+12+12+12+12+12+12+12+12+12+12+12. It's just mathematical shorthand and doesn't have any special properties inherent to itself. 1x1 (or times any other number) is just another way of communicating that you only have ONE of something. It's equal to saying 1+0. It's not magic, it just a quirk in the system because in this instance (1 times another number) writing it out IS longer than just writing the singular number. Now finish your homework and go watch the Backyardigans or something.

Multiplication is the act of observing the relationship of a group or between groups (if any). It was done for thousands of years without the use of mathematical symbols. It was communicated with everyday language either verbally or written. The problem with Terrence is he don’t think I’m practical terms. He has a very loose idea of the definition and function of multiplication and exponential properties. If you have two shopping bags with four apples each, you’d have 8 apples or 2x4=8. If you had one shopping bag with one apple you’d have one apple or 1x1=1. In no situation would you an extra apple appear just because one apple is places in the bag. Or an extra bag appear. If an extra something appears the the equation changes as well as the answer to 1x2=2. He doesn’t understand exponents and square roots and the purpose of them either. But anyway. I used to get a kick out of him just making stuff up but after a while I see how compulsive it is and feel really sad for him. Crazy that anyone can have a platform

Speaking about the pandemic is not a valid argument. This was scientist, trying to figure out the solutions in real time because people were dying. We didn’t have years and years to study this to make sure everything was correct and it wasn’t something distant that could be observed it was happening every day in our faces and time was of the essence.
@elton12116 ай бұрын
The scientific method essentially begins with a hypothesis, followed by experimentation to gather evidence. If this hypothesis is supported by evidence, undergoes peer review, and withstands scrutiny, it evolves into a working theory. When people say science is constantly proving itself wrong, I believe they misunderstand the process. Science doesn’t overturn its established theories; rather, it refines them and disproves other hypotheses. For example, Isaac Newton's theory of gravity was based on fundamental evidence that remains unchanged. Even when Einstein refined the theory to accommodate very large scales, he didn't discard Newton's ideas; he identified where they fell short and built upon them. We still use Newton's equations to get to the moon, which shows their lasting relevance. Therefore, I don't fully agree with the notion that science continually disproves past science, as mentioned at 5:20. Instead, we disprove hypotheses that fail to withstand peer-reviewed scrutiny and never become theories in the first place. The key distinction between a hypothesis and a theory is that a theory is backed by robust evidence from multiple experiments, whereas a hypothesis is not.

If you have experts in a field that is THEIR field of study they've done the research they know the facts. If you disagree with an expert in that field you don't have to listen to them at all, study the field for yourself and do your own research. It's really that simple. It's okay to disagree and hold opinions, we just need to hold each other accountable about what is FACTUAL and what is a belief or a theory. Stuff like this is why I’m anti public education. It’s a MASSIVE waste of time and resources to try to teach stupid people anything more than basic reading and writing. There should be a public daycare for you to send your kids, but unless you can afford to pay for school, or you test into it, you shouldn’t be allowed to waste taxpayer money.

@@CompletelyBlankPagei think Terrence is an idiot that has some cluster b personality disorder but, the universe is actually flat. You can look it up on Google. There’s a reason why that’s mathematically and geometrically accurate (placement of all the galaxies for instance). But Terrence is using what he read or heard as a “kernel of truth.” He unknowingly perhaps uses a kernel of truth to bridge to “novel” ideas or lies based in his misunderstanding of those truths. He’s like a version of Indiana Jones that searches for and always finds the shiny relics of his own ignorance, only knowing the quality of its shine while never acknowledging that it’s ignorance. He constructs several of these kernels together and reaches an all encompassing ignorant epiphany. Something anyone can reach to varying degrees, hence the use of peer reviews. But what matters most is how early on is the error in your epiphany. What’s one thing that made the rest of your “realizations” incorrect? For Howard it was math class in second grade.
@pinkharmonica13126 ай бұрын
@@CompletelyBlankPage wait what? the universe is flat. they even have a measurement/calculation of its flatness. just google "is space-time flat?" and you should find an answer quickly. Of course Terrance Howard is not correct on basically anything, but the universe is indeed very flat. A broken clock is right twice a day. Be careful not to fall into the same trap as the people taking Terrance Howard seriously and convince yourself that you know more than you actually do.

All due respect there was a lot of ignorance displayed in this conversation from the flat earth guy. He has the wrong idea about science and education. In science we do experiments to verify results and apply theories, it’s not just something taught from one to another and accepted as gospel. Also former theories aren’t exactly proven wrong much of the time. For example it’s not like Einstein replaced newtons physics and somehow Newton was wrong about everything. Or quantum physics somehow completely negates relativity. That’s not how it works. Anyway I hope you guys talk to more scientists in person and be more open minded instead of hard headed and stubborn which will keep you ignorant.

Terrance is a performing artist and any shit he says only makes sense in the realm of story. Unfortunately for us, Terrance lives in a story where his character knows science better than scientists. It's a Hollywood script: someone with no knowledge is smarter than all the people with knowledge combined.

I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand because this 1*1 = 2 is not a new thing, and by the way, Terrance is right on this, 1 * 1 should be 2 because we are doing Multiplication, if not the name multiplication has to be changed to how many ones are in one then 1*1 = 1 will be correct but in our case, multiplication means to increase a lot in number, to make something do this or when you add a number to itself a certain number of times and we did add one to itself and the calculation came out wrong because the answer was 1. When a man and a woman have a child, they will no longer be in the same state and will have multiple
