He left a lot of the important stuff in this heritability out of the discussion and moved on. It is a very tricky subject and his response is basically anything is achievable with ambition, don't be held back my scores on a cognitive or psychometric test. While that can be true, if an individual lacks the right stuff, they will get no where far and definitely not within their lifetime. Outliers speaking on the struggles of the normal is not representative of the individuals he speculates on and gives future forecasts on their ceiling or potential. In a way, this is survivorship bias with an optimistic outlook.

@angrysocialjusticewarrior
@angrysocialjusticewarrior 4 жыл бұрын
@@mohammadwasilliterate8037 What do you mean how do you debunk guys like Tyson? Have you never been through any course at university? Whenever you want to fact-check a claim, you write down the claim as a topic, break down the topic into logical points, and then conduct research on those points. The research done is not in the form of simply "googling" the topic. You can make use of peer-reviewed articles and studies, books from credible and qualified authors, and communicating with with qualified subject-matter experts (either though email, phone call, or physical interview). This process is usually taught at pre-masters level of study. What I just explained is merely the minimum required to make a credible fact checking process (It will give credibility to you if you claim that what Tyson said is BS), but you can make it even more elaborate if you wish.

@@CachetWilliams Correct, we won't destroy the planet and life will continue. But this is true: human-caused climate change has been and will continue to cause species extinctions and worsen life for people on earth. Poor countries are at most at risk of sea level rise. In short: yes climate fluctuates naturally BUT we are causing rapid warming due to our emissions.

Yes he is Santa, bearing gifts of disinformation for obedient little sheep; hired by the elites to spread lies. Not only is he an expert on the universe BUT NOW he's an expert on epidemiology. What a marvel, and SO humble too. Will HE and his 👪 be first in line for the Bill Gates sponsored MANDATORY vaccine complete with RFID? More people die EVERY year of regular flu. Do we shut the world down for that? This NOVEL(yeah it's novel alright) Covid 19 Virus has never been isolated. The medical establishment in the West is merely copying what the Chinese did, and testing for the presence of a genetic marker in lung fluid. NOT looking for the virus by that name because it doesn't exist. Hospitals are cooking the books on orders from above. If a patient comes in with ANY respiratory problems or flu-like symptoms they are tested for the presence of this genetic marker. Then if they subsequently die of ANY cause, the death certificate is marked as a death due to COVID 19. You know, that pesky and extremely NOVEL virus that HAS NEVER BEEN ISOLATED! You had best start looking into this and stop feeding on the lies that are force fed to you 24-7 by the mainstream media. And if you can break away from watching CNN, MSNBC and all the other mainstream media who are the propaganda arm of the government, maybe you might want to look into Santa's story, as he's a right jolly old elf don't ya know. Not exactly. He stresses that intelligence tests being posited as a measure of anything other than the skills needed to pass that specific test is an offense to the infinite potential and variety of human beings. Take the analogy of his dad as a runner. His body didn’t conform to the gym coach’s vision of the ideal runner. But clearly he had a strong body and a strong will, and achieved anyways. He definitely doesn’t discount genetics, he’s just saying human potential can’t be measured accurately by some puny test.

@@devinb9985 The thing about so called bad genetics is that there is opportunity if you courageously accept the burden of having to work harder than others. Many folks will curse existence and wallow in self pity at the idea that a gifted person can get the same results with half or even no work. However the upside is that you know how to work hard, you mind can take more pressure, you are tougher and to the gifted people who double down on working hard? You just have to have enough humility to give it up to them. It's not a bad thing that you have people like Elon Musk doing 100 hour work weeks. Bad genetics are not really that wide an issue, things like low functioning autism, hereditary diseases, males who are 4 foot tall etc...fair enough...but so much of our genetics are useful in some way or another since these traits were subject to the trial and error of 3 billion years of the earths existence.

@@blaccpanther8715 not all things are worth the time and not all people live long enough to achieve their goals. Some goals, unfortunately, have a specific timeline and age range to achieve and outside of that window it is no longer possible. This is more so transparent in sports but it is the same way with cognitive intensive sports. There are no prizes given for being average and no one cares for the person that learns calculus in his or her 30s whom also lack the time to learn everything else requisite to make a significant contribution to society or even a significant difference in his or her life. NDT down plays his ability to overcome what would break most people and sees a world from a very privileged perspective that most will never attain in their lifetimes. That's definitely not representative of the hundreds of thousands of post-docs who followed their passions doing the same thing and are now working below minimum wage waiting for a few positions to open up at a university or some other research institute.

Then again there has been people consistently claiming black people"s intelligence was inferior, which is disgusting and de-humanizing and in that sense i completely understand, but it is kinda tragic. If so, what makes him so smart? Can he make high end audio equipment? Can he change the oil in his own car, does he even have a car, can he build a house, cut down a tree, farm the land, stop coyotes from eating chickens, how is he with a sword, firearm, his hands and feet? Besides going on radio shows and acting like he actually knows something that no one could possibly know, what makes him, "smart"?

Everyone is born with the potential (by far and large, except a few biological/genetic anomalies here and there), but it's up to the environmental circumstances around them that either stifles that ambition potential, alters the trajectory of that ambition potential, or unleash that ambition potential with no limits attached or percieved... Just like every child is born with the capacity for love... But, all if the above (and listed below this paragraph) are what will determine whether or not that child thrives on love OR is a straight up psychopathic serial killer with no remorse or capacity for love. Environmental circumstance, cognitive perception based on previous experiences seering in biases and preferences, and overall nature being affected by nurture, is what determines the "who's who" of the world.
