Decades at the top, and no big scandal! And time for a private life, or 2.... or 3!!! All that, matters. Beautiful man making beautiful noise. Life well lived. 👵

I enjoy hearing the difference between this version and his later versions, where he slows it down. This one has youth crying out: the others have a seductive man giving patience and love to a woman. He's so good.

Maybe it's more about my mindset as an older man seeing girls approaching or in their teens how almost sad I feel that their girl hood is about to end and they are almost forced into learning what it's like to be an adult because they are beginning to get male attention. I listen to this fabulous song and on both this performance and the live recording, Neil seems to reflect that sadness and mournfulness. Again, may I hear something that isn't there. Neil Diamond's songs are always so interesting. What a writer. It proves that so much creativity occurs when people are in their teens and twenties.

I was also 17 when I heard this play on a small town radio. I had never heard of Neil Diamond at that time. It was a "name it and claim it" song where if you call the radio station and tell them the name of the song you win the 45 record, well it wasn't hard to figure out the name so I won the record and I became a devoted fan ever since.

@SDS-ee9js - I posted pretty much all the vintage clips I had, back around 2010 or so. Since then, I think YT has covered just about everything that is allowed on the site! (They removed many of my videos due to copyright ownership.🙁) Once in a while, I'll post some recent videos from concerts I go to. I have another channel you might want to check out: www.youtube.com/@60s70sChicagoRock/videos Some older clips are also there, too. Thanks for watching!!

After my chat with the lovely 8deadlysinz 🖐 l decided to revisit the lyrics of this beautiful song and realised he also say's, I've loved you so much, can't count all the ways I've died for you girl and all they can say is, "He's not your kind" They don't say, "He's too old, for you" Add that to "The BOY'S no good", and the only thing left for me to say is, the music and lyrics devine,💎 Thats all from me🙂

Some reason Neil Diamond doesn’t like to sing that song. When he used to ask people, what song can he sing for them? Somebody would girl you’ll be a woman soon . He refuses to sing that song live anymore before he retired. And he only retired because of his Parkinson’s disease.
