I am completely MEZMERIZED by this performance, and enamored with this man's pure talent. No flashy costume, no stage antics, no props. Just the guitar, the voice, and himself putting himself out there for ALL to see. Doesn't compare with anything today that is for SURE. So thankful my friend turned me on to Neil Diamond long ago. And look at his face after he finishes. Even with a small audience such as this he is transported by this song, by the sheer power and the magic of it, and it takes a few moments (and a sip of water!) for him to regain his composure and come back to the real world... Me too! He is magnificent!!! 🔥🌟🔥🌟🔥👏👏👏🎸🎶👑💯

Tough call between this and Lady Magdalene. I love them both.
@sandrahanson8634
@sandrahanson8634 7 жыл бұрын
I love them both. Lady Magdalene is so self-revealing! I think even more so than "I Am I Said." He was so very young when he wrote it questioning about whether he believed in love or not. It's so very poetic. "The man on the right that he sings about believes in love, "believing that love is a song for each man to sing," the man on the left doesn't, "believing that love is a dreamer's dream," then with so much passion, almost innocence, he asks "What about me? I'm the man in between." I absolutely love that song! It surprises me because I have met so many fans that have told me that they don't understand what it's about. The music with the orchestra is beautiful! He is so amazing in every way! His heart and his soul are the gifts in his talent! This song is wrapped in both so eloquently!

SURELY IS ALIVE. AND CREATED BY GOD. !! THING IS THAT THIS THE TIME THAT THE UNGODLY. WHO HAVE REIGNED OVER THE WORLD BY THE WOMAN JEZEBEL HAS RULED OVER THE EARTH TO DESTROY IT BY CONTROLLING IT AS PER REVELATION CH 13 IS COMING TO AN END. AND WE WILL HAVE 1000 YEARS OF THE PEACE AND LOVE ALL MIGHTY GOD. WHILE THOSE WHO THOUGHT THEY WERE BETTER THAN THOSE THAT GOD AND JESUS CREATED US. IN THEIR IMAGE. WILL NEVER BE HEARD FROM AGAIN !! Just to share ,I met Elvis PRESLEYS Nephew in Australia 35 YEARS AGO, Said that his Dr said that it was not the drugs that destroyed him which he used in an attempt to wash away his pain. But problem was that not one ministered to Elvis to free him of the Grief and Trauma of his still born twin brother Jessie ( also means Jesus )) when he was born . Got his divorce papers same day his mom's died !! When Elvis and boys went to do their gigs. They would always start with a prayer. When gig finished they would play gospel songs till Sun up !! One night the bouncer said. YOU CAN NOT PRAY IN HERE !! ELVIS SAID. PACK UP. WE ARE GOING HOME. OOOPS. GUARD WAS HUMBLED. MAY GOD TOUCH YOU TO NIGHT IN A WAY THAT YOU NEED IT THE MOST. AND YES. HE CAPTURES ALL OF YOUR TEARS. AND KEEPS THEM ALLL IN BOTTLES BECAUSE THEY ARE SO PRECIOUS TO HIM !! AMEN !

@Carolann Cannuli-Denton No mam. First post was 100% on point. This talent is a gift from God, his Creator. Diamond's journey is reflected doubtlessly in the lyrics. Song of Songs, Healing the lame, Holy Son, Holy Rain. And Holly? Emblematic of Jesus' crown of thorns. There's more.

In another live version, Neil says this song is a stream of consciousness… meaning you don’t listen to the lyrics, you aren’t even aware of the words, you simply feel this song and the emotion behind it. A perfect description.

I saw him in the mid-80's when I was a kid in Dallas and I was behind the stage. He dedicated a song to a pregnant women below us and sang the whole thing straight to her. I remember it was getting late and Neil asked the audience what time it was and they lied and said 9:30 when it was 11:30 so he'd keep playing. Neil called them out on their lie jokingly but kept on playing. Awesome guy.

Good call, even though Paperback writer bass may be more complex. With this song I immediately think of Fiddler on the Roof with the bass, which I suppose is appropriate since Neil is Jewish. I realize in this live version that it is first a violin or possibly cello and then definitely a timpani doing the bass. The recording has a bass guitar. It is so simple but yet so powerful. I love how Neil sings his songs, like he believes so deeply in them.

Neil Diamond's openness to so many diverse influences is I think a large part of why he has remained so prolific throughout his career. This is essentially a gospel song... I can't think of another Jewish gospel songwriter, can you? I remember hearing him sing "Brother Love..." with Johnny Cash way back and it was so right I can well imagine he might have been thinking of Johnny when he wrote it. I find it strange that "Holly Holy" is one of Diamond's less well remembered early songs because it always goes down well in karaoke bars where most of the audience haven't heard it before.
