Zane Lowe joins rock icon Neil Young at Shangri-La recording studio in Malibu to discuss his 41st studio album, ‘Barn’ with Crazy Horse. Neil Young explains that geography is very important to his songwriting process and that he needs to feel the energy of his space in order to create lasting music. Neil describes working with Crazy Horse on tracks like “Song Of The Seasons,” which was inspired by the beauty of their surroundings. The two discuss the Neil Young archives, which is a project he’s been working on for years. Neil believes that in music it’s important to have sights set on the future, with care and respect for the past. Listen to Neil Young on Apple Music: apple.co/NeilY...

I just started through my interest in Nirvana. And one of my neighbours . I noticed she and her brother gave me a Nirvana cassette. But she recommended The Pixies and through spying on her. I think she was a Pearl Jam fan. From Pearl Jam. I got interested in : Living In The Free World . In particular the 2nd chorus . Of course in the past a single was more of a product . I reckon.

I have an unwavering appreciation and reverence for Neil Young. His songwriting and delivery are so captivating, timeless and evoke so many emotions in me. As a human being, he is as genuine and steadfast as they come. The musical landscape is, and always will be a far more compelling and rich place thanks to his incredible body of work.

Do you (as me) dig his earlier work as much or more than his later work.? Decade has a few samples, (Burned, Expecting to fly etc) Everybody Knows.. Harvest, ATGR, On the Beach, Time fades away, Tonight's the Night, Journey through the past , Comes a time, American Stars..(mita left out a cpl).. These to my ears n mind has left an impact on me for a lifetime.. Live Rust was the greatest show I've seen n heard to this day. Gold.

Then don't read "Shakey: Neil Young's Biography." I like Neil's music and have listened to him since Buffalo Springfield, but Neil is not the person you'd want to trust for a friend. He would do whatever was most expedient for him without a thought as to what effect it might have on you.

"Steadfast" is not an apt adjective for a person who leaves his wife of 35 years for a younger woman. Even if one doesn't want to be judgemental about a creative genius, his actions in real life make one doubt the "soul" behind his music.
@danielrose3434
@danielrose3434 Жыл бұрын
Jo Jeffries I think his earlier work is far superior, a lot of songs he's releasing now were rehashed songs he wrote decades ago which were left off Albums. His last 4 or 5 Albums were mediocre at best, I was excited to hear Nils was back only to be disappointed he's hardly used at his best, I saw the Trans tour and Nils was playing some superb duelling guitar with Neil and made his presence felt, this time around it feels like Nils is being shackled, the only time I know when it's Nils is when he's playing piano or accordion, what a waste of an amazing guitarist, is Neil too jealous these days to let Nils loose, a bit like Springsteen who makes him stick to strict guitar playing.?

To be fair, I think some people tend to compulsively talk when they're nervous or uncertain about how they're being perceived. There's an interview with Mark Lanegan like that. I think the interviewer was Joseph Arthur. It's not a great quality in an interviewer, I agree. That's why Larry King was so great. He let people talk. Mark Laita of Soft White Underbelly is another great interviewer.

Good interview but this is not Neil's house in Malibu, which is being rebuilt at the moment after it was destroyed by fire. This is the Shangri-La recording studio, currently owned by Rick Rubin but famous for being The Band's base in the mid-1970s when it was first converted into a studio. Neil hung out there st the time with The Band and Dylan. He also used it for recording the 2016 album Peace Trail with Promise of the Real.

Neil Young and Joni Mitchell seem to me to stand on their own as artists. Another plane. Unfortunately I never saw Joni live. But Neil Young live was the greatest show I've ever seen. There's something so visceral and so earth shattering about seeing him (and Crazy Horse). So raw, so real, so human. It shakes you up.

Here's a funny. In the early 70s our catholic priest warned us about the "perils" of "the devil's music" including Neil Young. Specifically named. So, of course, I bought a copy. Neil sounded more like Jesus than the priest did! Neil was always singing about loving others and being kind and not judgemental and all that. The priest was always full of discouragement and be very afraid of's. I became a big fan of CSN, NY+Crazy Horse, etc at 8yo. I don't go to church anymore.

Love how authentic, and deeply honest and candid Neil Young talks. He speaks from his heart and lives everyday trying to make the world a better place through his music. His music speaks to the soul. At 62, I can honestly say that whenever my world fell apart through the years, Neil's music has always spoke to my heart and gave a sense of calm. Not sure if he reads comments, but all I can say is "Thank you neil, for making the world a better place. Your music sure has made my world better through the years. "
