These kids are so young, a couple of them continued on to achieve greatness, Tyler Thenstedt and Dakota Bakal.

Fantastic! I actually bookmarked this video months ago and every now and then when I want something to perk me up I'll view it and sit here and smile..... wishing sooooo much that I had learned guitar when I was a young lad almost 50 years ago. Wow, you young talented musicians have got a wonderful musical future in front of you! All the best to all of you...

That guy in the red shirt & black jacket was very good! I wish the microphone was turned up a little on the female vocalist wearing green - she seems to have a nice resonant voice. Thumbs up to the whole band!

This video goes back to 2012. Did any of these former students turn professional? Was the school worth the tuition?

@@midwestconcertvideo So the odds of becoming a professional musician by attending one of these rock & roll schools isn't so go?

@@Jay_Dahl The odds are actually far better. They meet other musicians in the school.

@@Jay_Dahl Let me expand a little bit. Some kids, would be playing soccer if they weren't in School of Rock. It's this seasons interest. I don't pay any attention to those kids. Others, it becomes a gigantic part of their life and they'll be in the program for multiple years. I obviously pay attention to them. But the ones I pay close attention to are the ones who eventually end up in All-Stars. All of them will have their own bands, and will pursue careers in music. I'll give you an idea how effective the program is. One kid, a drummer at the Chicago School of Rock, at 16 years old rode his bike to an open audition for a drummer at the Chicago edition of the Blue Man Group. Over 150 drummers tried out for one of the sweetest gigs in the city. It's the best gig a drummer could ask for - his kit is set up and mic'd and never gets moved. He shows up, plays the gig, and goes home (or plays another gig that same night at a different location.) This 16-year-old kid beat everybody else for a musician's union gig. School of Rock and turned him into a pro by the age of 16, when most of his peers were lucky to get a job flipping burgers.

@@midwestconcertvideo There is nothing wrong with the concept of putting a young person into an organized instructional environment that focuses on their skills & ambitions. As you said, that's how stars are born. Any parent that invests money into developing their kid's natural talents is to be commended. But, I still worry about the seemingly small odds of success in the Rock & Roll business. When people go to a normal college, and graduate, I think many of the graduates become self-sufficient professionals in their chosen field, and I just don't see that happening at these nation wide Rock Schools. Paying the tuition for your kid to attend one of these schools seems more like a shot in the dark than a prudent investment in education. But again, I'm sure it's better than nothing, and some kids do go on to achieve high levels of success. (And I'm definitely NOT suggesting that your typical college is your best investment in education.) Another concern that I have is that the Rock & Roll business isn't as profitable as it once was. If a band produces a popular new CD, it's copied freely by anybody who wants it. Most of the money I see being made is from live performances. Covid really crushed those opportunities, but hopefully that is just a temporary situation.
