To Bill Cohan. I miss and love you ❤. You were in your 80swhen you passed. I was in my 30s. I was devastated. We had some great times. You said I brought comfort to you living next door. It was the opposite. Love you forever.❤

A song about his beloved old 1948 Buick Roadmaster hearse, which took him and his music gear everywhere until the gearbox gave in one day on a long slope down into the town of Blind River. Its chrome heart, shining in the sun, describes that grand old car.

This beautiful song reminds me of a good friend, Bill, who also loved Neil and played guitar & died of ALS last year, at 54. At his memorial a few friends played some Neil Young in his memory. Whenever I hear this song, the tears flow as I remember Bill fondly.

+hamilton5071 sorry buddy but I loaded her up with Rap, R&B and other Poop Music, then I doused her in gas, shoved a plank against the accelerator, pointed her in the direction of the setting sun and a big cliff, closed my eyes, lit a smoke, then jumped out before the cliff... I dont know what you did to that Jeep but it never ran good so I had to end it all.

+Bobs Cats And sorry B.C., but after that car just missed landing on me, and bounced a bit, it landed sound and runnin' still! I thustly then took the driver's-throne. And having (thankfully) a 1975 Springsteen cassette tape in my back pocket, inserted it so, and drove home. A great 2nd car for me now. It lives! I hopes UR not disappointed! I guess the Cherokee was 'born to run'!

We've been through Some things together With trunks of memories Still to come We found things to do In stormy weather Long may you run. Long may you run. Long may you run. Although these changes Have come With your chrome heart shining In the sun Long may you run. Well, it was Back in Blind River in 1962 When I last saw you alive But we missed that shift On the long decline Long may you run. Long may you run. Long may you run. Although these changes Have come With your chrome heart shining In the sun Long may you run. Maybe The Beach Boys Have got you now With those waves Singing "Caroline No" Rollin' down That empty ocean road Gettin' to the surf on time. Long may you run. Long may you run. Although these changes Have come With your chrome heart shining In the sun Long may you run.

There was a scene during the closing ceremonies while Niel was performing this song that showed the gold-medal winning Canadian bobsleigh team of Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse enjoying the song and basking in the last few minutes of the Olympic Torches' glow with their eyes closed. That image made me happy and sad at the same time, it reminded me that all things have a start and an end, and we as Canadians should take pride in our accomplishments at theses games, even if the flame is out.

O.K. This song was first released on the "Stills-Young Band" album 'Long May you Run', in 1976. It has a beautiful pencil drawing of an American Bison on the cover. Neil first met Steve in Thunder Bay after he dropped out of high school (in Winnepeg) and Steve was touring with the New Cristy Minstrels. After Neil's band broke up, he decided to move to California. Steve recognized Neil's band's hurse driving on the Cali. 401 in 1969. The band carried their equipment in a black hurse in Canada.

Blind River is a town in Northern Ontario, Canada. "But we missed that shift on the long decline" refers to a long hill just outside of town on the Trans Canada Highway where Neil and the boys supposedly dropped the transmission in their hearse. Perhaps Neil is too deep to just sing about his hearse that he had many adventures in, it's up to you to decide. "Get me to the surf on time" is a spin-off from the play My Fair Lady and the song called Get Me To The Church on Time. Neil is simply #1!
