@carolinewoodward1016 It seems I was a little harsh there with my own comment.😬 It's a great point about Neil having so many well known songs but not many hits.Out of curiosity, I went to see how his songs actually did on the charts. It turns out, not surprisingly, his biggest hit on the charts was "Heart of Gold" which hit #1 on March 12, 1972. " Old Man" reached #31 on June 3rd 1972 and "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" hit #33 on Dec. 12, 1970. " Cinnamon Girl" reached #55 July 25, 1970. I found a Rolling Stone article from 2021 titled, "The 100 Greatest Neil Young Songs." They make an effort to rank them from 1 to 100. I don't know if you've read it or not, but it's interesting to compare this list with your own opinion, I think. At the beginning of this piece they quote Neil as saying, "I'd rather keep changing and lose a lot of people along the way, if that's the price, I'll pay it. I don't give a shit if my audience is a hundred or a hundred million." Classic Neil! 😂
@johnparsons14668 ай бұрын
@carolinewoodward1016 Interesting and very true what you are saying. Certain groups and artists have kind of a niche following with the Dead being the classic example. We grew up in a really special time in American culture. These poor little kids today have had to endure the lockdowns and the masks and all this craziness. We were the lucky ones, I think.

In the past two months, I have lost my grandfather (and closest friend), as well as two lovely beautiful dogs, Delilah (a childhood friend I grew up with) and Ruby (a gorgeous black lab). My family has been crushed, and my heart is in ruin. I have had many sad and sleepless nights since this has happened, but listening to Lotta Love makes me feel so wonderful. Thank you Neil, it will certainly take A LOT of love, but with you by my side, it is helping my through those nights. Long live YOUNG!

Any version of this song is just fine. Nicolette Larson was a dear friend of his and sang on his records and in concert. Nobody was happier than him when she and the producer created that amazing recording. Her voice was just ridiculously good. He was neighbors with Linda Ronstandt and went over to ask her to recommend an accompanying singer and Nicolette was there. It turned out 6 people had already recommended her to him, so they jammed and worked together.

Agree with you. Its said he played it for her in his car and she liked it so much she asked if she could use it on her album. They were a couple and he said she could. Depending on who you believe he may have asked Reprise his label to delay Come a Time release date so Larsons version came out first. He played rock, country-rock, blues, electronic music, punk/new wave recordings, spanning from Buffalo Springfield to Crazy Horse to CSN&Y and his many solo albums, makes him a legend imho.
