Heard this on an audio cassette back in 1997. I'm in Pakistan - you can't buy this stuff off the shelf. I had to order this album (the shop would have to send to another city to check if they had it) and then there would be an agonizing 10 day wait for the album to be recorded from vinyl to cassette in another city and be sent back! As a teenager the 10 day wait was like eternity. Of course when the album finally played - it was well worth it! Thank you Neil Young.

@@KPD017 my dad introduced us to The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and CSN but he hadn't heard much of NY. Neil would be on MTV a lot during the early 90's with Pearl Jam so I was aware but as a Pearl Jam fan I didn't pay much attention. But then a friend of my brother's introduced us to the 'On The Beach' album and that changed it all for me.

Freshman year @ Syracuse U. in 1973, I remember the cinderblock dorms and the sounds of Neil's "Harvest" album blasting down the hallway between rooms. When I was younger (17-18 years old), my dad gave me a copy of “Harvest” and made a comment about it being “whiskey sipping music”. I did not fully understand that he was referring to the deeply painful, introspective and emotionally charged characteristics that make it such a great record, such a powerful piece. This was coming from a man who buys one bottle of whiskey a year, because that’s all he needs. Only now, with my 20s and early 30s in the rear view mirror and being a father myself can I see what my father was saying when he made that statement. Only now, after listening to it countless times, feeling the things Neil is expressing both in the lyrics and the music itself…do I understand. True art right here.
