I love Landing On Water and especially this song. It's his best album of the 80s.

I always liked this version more than the album take. I don't think this was an outtake though. I think the was a 12" remix. I had a cassette of this version awhile back. If you listen to the 12" extended remixes of singles from the 80's, you'll notice this follows the trend. The principal track(album version) was finished but to make these they would take the master tapes back and then let some engineer make all these changes.

Hey Daniel, I actually went and compared the two and I don't think this is the 12". My copy of the single (which I'll upload one of these days) has more production flourishes, especially keyboards and added drum sounds. It's a little shorter, too

Thanks. Look forward to hearing it. I always felt this album should have been recorded with Crazy Horse. Neil debuted "Violent Side," and "Touch the Night" for one show with Crazy Horse in February 1984. "I got a problem," was first performed on the Solo Trans tour of 83.' He also played that one with Crazy Horse at the Santa Cruz show in 84.' I always liked Weight of the World. The music video was terrible but the song wasn't. I remember reading in Shakey(the bio) that all of the production and music videos for Landing on Water were paid out-of-pocket by Neil. Geffen had just lost the lawsuit with Neil and they felt him as an enemy. He really stabbed it to em' in "Prisoners of Rock and Roll" and "Payola Blues."

Thanks for uploading this. I would like to know if the photo used in the video is the packaging art for the audio source. Also, I would like to know if "Weight of the World (Demo)" is the actual title of the track. I partially agree with the person who said it sounds like the 12" remix, but I hear the differences. It sounds like an alternate 12" remix rather than a demo (same vocals, etc), unless this track began as a demo and the completed commercial versions were extensions of the original demo.

I'll start with the art: it's actually an ad that ran in NME (or Melody Maker? I forget) when the album was released. Greil Marcus wrote something like "If Neil is Neville Chamberlain, then who's David Geffen?" As for the song, it came to me labelled as a demo

Landing has a killer track list that flows like water. Touch The Night my other fave off this album. Find the official video it’s brilliant. Funny looking at this ad with the byline-“Return…. “ Geffen didn’t like the amazing Trans, even tried to sabotage it. Hey you signed a chameleon not a country clone
