I remember having a daydream about the opening acoustic guitar part of “All Along The Watchtower” ending with a Native American scream and a big native drum on the downbeat. That was the spark to assemble one of our biggest and deepest Songs Around The World. From Beirut to New Orleans to the Lakota Nation, musicians play and sing like a musical army determined to stop suffering and greed all over the world. As a society, we need to get back to our roots and connect deeper with our ancestors and native people in general so we can find the wisdom we need to move forward as a human race. As Jimi Hendrix once said, “If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.”

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

Man, there are just SO MANY beautiful little gems that get stitched together to make this song brilliant. All the different instruments adding their little sparkles here and there, like the sweet sitar fill at 1:06, the two ladies on the violins, or the hollow "rat-tat-tat" drum fill at 2:33, right before that rich syrupy guitar tone kicks in for the solo. Not to mention Roberto's soulful steel slide guitar twang at 3:49. The whole thing just has so much texture and is orchestrated so well, I could listen to this on repeat for hours and still find new things to love about it every time.

While I am white & live in New Zealand, the indigenous people here, the Maori, have had a similar fight to preserve their right to live & culture but unlike many they have fought the good fight & have won the right to preserve their culture & language as an important part of New Zealand. I wish that success for you & all Native American Peoples

Once THE GREAT MUSICAL TREASURE that is Bob heard Jimi cover "All Along The Watchtower", Bob humbly said that Jimi probably improved on the song. Bob so liked Jimi's version that Bob has continued to perform his own song in the fashion Jimi did it because it is so fantastic, and as a musical tribute to Jimi. "All Along The Watchtower" is the best cover song ever, imho. Kudos to Bob for his writing, singing and playing genius, AND to the few who really do this AMAZING song justice. That would include JIMI #1 and Playing For Change. PLAYING FOR CHANGE are fantastic musicians. I'm guessing the much alive today Bob, and Jimi both would approve of PLAYING FOR CHANGE's cover here.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I look forward to hearing every song put out by PLAYING FOR CHANGE. So Good! OK, I've watched this through about 5 times now. Awesome, inspired performances, everyone, and the mixing/editing is just mad good. The only performance that consistently sends chills down my spine are the Lakota drummers and singers. Whoever decided to invite them to the party THANK YOU! What a gift!

@@jonashjerpe7421 Thanks for your comment. The rise of Bolsonaro, Duterte, Boris Johnson, Erdogan, et. al., is very discouraging and the truth seems to get more scarce every day. We in the U.S. have our hands full trying to stop Trump from establishing a dictatorship. But yes, I am Swedish; my father emigrated from western Finland in 1923. Jonas, I have a dear friend who is a "follower" of Trump and it seems to me her behavior and defensive positioning, her inability to hear anything negative said about him, is of a cult characteristic, like unto Branch Davidians and some Buddhist cults. So, to diagnose Trump followers accurately I think you would need to look at the characteristics of people in cults. Trumpers, as she calls herself, are people who willingly fall inline behind their messiah who, as you point out, leads them in their quest to fulfill their narcissism and other general delusions.

The whole series is like a epic poem to the art of editing.... To get this many performers, of this many countries, of this many musical styles... to say nothing of the individual baggage the song itself evokes from the performers... is just incredible. I take absolutely nothing away from the performers. You gotta have your act together to be asked to do this thing, after all. But it took real skill to knit all this together into such an incredible whole.

The one thing I'm astounded by is the choice of parts. Each person played this song the whole way through then they piece this together with the best played parts that fit together. the way these seemingly non-complementary instruments meld together is amazing. you'd never think a sitar, african drum, native american drums and song and an electric guitar would work together, but that's the beauty of music...
