Great video - I absolutely loved Beat The Teacher and this is from when I had just started secondary school :) I also like the fact the quality of the picture matches what we used to get at home - we had terrible shadowing!

I used to love "Beat The Teacher" on Children's BBC 1 (during the always brilliant broom cupboard days) back in the 1980s when i was a kid. I remember watching all of "Beat The Teacher" (I never missed an episode); right from Howard Stableford presting and then Paul Jones (here) and finally of course Bruno Brookes. It just brilliant and by far the best ever quiz show for kids the BBC has ever made in my opinion. Paul Jones was born in 1942 and was in his forties when he present "Beat The Teacher" today he is 79 year olds old!!. For those that don't know he was one of the original members of the legendary 1960s pop group "Manfred Mann" he was the lead singer of the group and a brilliant harmonica player he had several Top Ten hit records with the group from 1962 to 1966 including "5-4-3-2-1" and "Pretty Flamingo".

I remember this show only vaguely, but Paul Jones later played Uncle Jack in a series of daft CBBC children’s adventures on the same level as Rent A Ghost. This was 1990-93 and my mother, an old fan of his music, pointed him out.

Been looking for a full episode of this for years! Middle middle 2.... *bzzzz* *click*... *bzzzz* *click*. Ahh, the days when even the simplest kids' gameshow had some engineering behind it. Nowadays, the game board would just be computerised on an LED screen. Wonder if it ever jammed up during the recording?

Omg this was my favourite show as a kid! Can't believe it's on here. Some of those questions were pretty difficult! The theme tune must have changed in the next series as I remember a voice that said 'beat the, beat the, beat the teacher!'
@mercuryvapoury7 жыл бұрын
It did - they revamped the show a bit when Bruno Brookes took over as the presenter.

That's the music and intro I remember, not the crappy later version. When Howard Stapleford hosted it, I seem to recall he would discuss other subjects. One that I'll never forget is when he showed one of those boiled sweets with a scorpion inside.

Those late eighties computer graphics are quite charming. These days it's hard to believe it took four people to make them.

4:50 Wrong answer, should be just 2 kings, as he didn't specify it was a decisive game.
@Scottish_TV_Gold5 жыл бұрын
@thecouchtripper not of your opponent is also only left with the king.
@martinworld72143 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can both end up with a king each and a stalemate , that question was bogus .....but hey it was 35 years ago , too late for a replay I guess :)
@UffersMcAwesome3 жыл бұрын
@thecouchtripper Nope. You cannot win if you only have a king left, but you do not automatically lose. A draw is still possible.

That question at 4.51 about chess is wrong. You can finish a game of chess with just two pieces on the board. The two kings and it would be a stalemate.
